From what I know so far, I'm not going to get the expansion, seems like it can prolong the life of the game so little.
I don't think the expansion is there to improve the endgame for Diablo 3. It's primary goal seems to be to address class balance, itemization concerns, and improving the loot hunt. With Blizzard's recent interest in reading feedback on endgame possibilities, we'll see updates to prolong the life of Diablo 3 after RoS.

watching kingkongor atm and hes getting atleast 8-10 per hour in RoS torment level 6...he got a new build thats even better than WW barbar

    http://www.twitch.tv/kingkongor

I just saw a stream with Kripp getting 21 legendaries in an hour.

It's not that impressive given he's using bugged skills with a crusader but the part that has me worried is the legendaries themselves.

There was nothing 'build-changing' about them and he stashed 3-4 due to their stats instead of the legendary effects while salvaging the rest.

The drop rate will most likely be lowered considerably and I know I won't have the gear to farm Torment for quite some time post RoS release.

Knowing that and seeing streamers find only a few legendaries so far these past few days being considered build changing is really making me loose interest. These legendaries/sets need a lot more work.

True... i would be the one who'd feel no sense of accomplishment. However... blizzard agrees with me and that's why i intend to buy RoS. Trading for legendaries/ set items would diminish the importance of the loot hunt and people would soon just trade their way up instead of actually focusing on gameplay.

Others may enjoy trading for their items but this game is not a trading game. That's the exact reason why the ah will be removed. First and foremost we have to make the loot hunt interesting. BoA on legendaries and set items accomplishes just that. If trading rares and blues is not enough for you, then you're just being selfish. You'll still have your trading, we just want our endgame.

Making the loot hunt interesting is one of the major goals for Loot 2.0.

BoA should have nothing to do with it.

    Quote from Dimebog

I could get behind the idea that an item can be traded to a clan member but only if the guy was already a member of the clan when the item dropped. That way 3rd party websites wouldn't be able to invite their customers to the clan and sell items.

If the BoA decision for legendaries/sets stays for the final build, then they should look into options such as this.

If you're actually looking at it competitively, I'm more okay with the concept of "that guy was lucky" over "that guy probably bought all his items".

Again, if you want to look at it competitively, there's always Ladder.

    Quote from Vladh

That's the problem right there... expecting something to go the exact way you want it to go. We're not children anymore, we can't have everything handed to us on a silver platter. We have to make do with what we can get our hands on and adapt. Indeed it might get really difficult in the first few months to play the exact build you want to, but that's a good thing.[ Trading would allow us to do that, but that would also spoil us and instead of feeling awesome for finally playing the build i always wanted, we'd feel no sense of accomplishment.

    Quote from Dimebog

The idea that I might never get some specific legendary is so much more appealing to me than knowing that everyone can get anything at whim sooner or later. Once and if the item actually drops, it will be all the more satisfying in the long run. Why is everyone entitled to the entirety of the loot?

So it's an issue of entitlement?

We are not talking about players expecting to find the best items in the game.

Even legendaries/sets will have randomization that separates them so that you will possibly never find
one in the top percentile range.

To suggest that we should limit it further so there's a chance players could never find a specific build changing legendary/set is ridiculous.

    Quote from Vladh

Trading would allow us to do that, but that would also spoil us and instead of feeling awesome for finally playing the build i always wanted, we'd feel no sense of accomplishment.

No, you would feel no sense of accomplishment.

Other players may feel differently on how they obtain their gear.

You don't need to collect all legendaries to feel *legendary*.

    Of course not.

From my previous post the CM learned of a legendary belt and expected to able try it out on their barbarian.

Now either players will be able to find these specific legendaries/sets on their own or you're going to have to tell the CM
there is a possibility they will never be able to experience playing a barbarian that explodes health globes.

Geez, I guess everyone should then be satisfied and have no reason to bitch about anything Blizzard decides to do. It's as simple as playing your own Diablo 3 pen and paper game with your own made up rules. Oh the possibilities!

Do you mind clarifying this post further for me?

    Quote from Vladh

BoA on legendaries and set items makes sense. We want them to truly feel unique and we want to preserve the feeling of awe when that item finally drops. If trading were allowed, they'd all become the new norm and lose all of their uniqueness, you wouldn't feel special anymore.

Don't forget, you'll still have the ability to trade rares/ blues which will have abilities like +%damage to certain skills. Therefore a market will be created around them and ensure that those who enjoy trading can and will be able to. Some legendaries would work best with several rares complementing them through some damage modifiers.

From what we know of Loot 2.0, there's going to be a lot of legendaries/sets added into the game.

    4) More specialized builds possible.
One of many goals with Loot 2.0 is to encourage build diversity through legendary affixes. There's so many that just scream "Hey, give these runes or powers a try" when maybe you hadn't considered them before.

As an example, Wyatt stopped by the Community Booth to chat with players and mentioned a belt that (currently) causes Health Globes to explode for a percentage weapon damage when they're picked up. Just the concept of that makes me excited to tinker with my Barbarian's skills and see how I can best capitalize on that. Ultimately I will end up in a very different place well outside my comfort zone when I'm normally pretty stubborn in changing my ways. ;P

    6) *LOTS* of legendaries and sets to find.
Oh my goodness, there are so many. Like, so, so many. I don't math so good, so I don't have a number on hand, but between a slew of brand new items and revisiting and redesigning current legendaries, there will be so much to play with and collect! As a fellow pack rat, I'm looking forward to not just looting some powerful gear, but fun and quirky things too!

If Blizzard is honestly expecting players to be able to collect all of these legendaries/sets on their own without the help of trading then your character would eventually not 'feel' special regardless.

The elephant in the room is that there is nothing beyond the loot hunt in Diablo 3, (until Ladders arrive, perhaps) so it's in their interest right now to make sure playing the game stays appealing as long as possible. Looking at it that way, this decision makes a lot of sense.

That's another problem they are trying to address in RoS,

    From CM Vaneras:

At some point around the time when your character is all maxed out and fully equipped with great legendaries, you will be more likely to find a good sidegrade than a good upgrade, but thanks to loot 2.0 as well as the Mystic, you will have some more interesting options to adjust and improve your gear.

Allowing players to freely trade their legendaries/sets shouldn't be an issue here.

Then just make the decision not to trade.

    It's that simple.

How does other players trading deter your enjoyment?

That's not what this discussion is about. Your trading doesn't affect me at all.

However, from a design stand point, it's Kevin Marten and cos. job to design a game where killing monsters is the best, most enjoyable way to get loot. And as everyone knows by now, the better loot you acquire, the less fun killing monsters is, since you have to wait longer for that next upgrade. Sure, high drop rates will make this happen anyway, but it's not like trading won't have the same result, if not quicker.

    But that's the issue here.

Trading only gets you to the point where killing monsters is no longer fun that much quicker.

So if the drop rates for RoS require limititations on trading from a design standpoint, you are going
to experience that "finding better loot, less fun killing monsters, harder to find an upgrade" idea regardless.

Why aren't you in favor of allowing trading which should lead to lower drop rates thus increasing
your playtime towards finding better loot?

I think it boils down to personalities and that a lot of people are competitive no matter what the game.

I think they already have a mode in development for people who like to compete such as yourself.

    It's called Ladder.

There's no need to remove the trading of highly desired loot in order to make that happen.

Is this really all it takes to convince the masses? People are yelling about the 2nd coming and how this would fix the game... really?

NONE of these changes will make the game a longterm success or add much(any) depth to it.

Don't worry, blizzard will make sure that any loot improvements are made on their own terms and not be led
astray by what the masses on a diablo-based forum consider "fun".
