While I do see your point on the real life perspective of the witch doctor, true or not, I do not however see how that means we should not include it fantasy ARPG. Sure even if Witch Doctors do evil things IRL, that doesn't mean we (or Blizzard for that matter) cannot dream them up in our fantasy realm. That is why its called fantasy after all.
No offense, but honestly what I hear coming from you at this point is fanatic christian ramble. No offense, but you almost sound like you could be the principal of that Ohio school that kicked a kid out for going to his girlfriend's school's prom which allowed holding hands, kissing, and rock music. Don't get me wrong here, I accept you for who you are whether or not this statement is true, but if you are coming here with religious issues with this game, your words fall on deaf ears. No offense here, this being your first post I kinda get worried, I have little else to base your personality on so forgive me if I am incorrect.
The Diablo serious, while I find it oddly religiousness (in the sense that you kill Satan), is a fantasy series. We have witches, demons, wizards, brutal killings, and various brutal aspects. If someone is not old or mature enough to separate this video game from reality, I find that quite sad. Even if a child were to think that a witch doctor irl might be cool, that is the impression that most TV shows and movies already create.
That humbly being said, bring on the Witch Doctor.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.
Aesthetic class names are always going to be different than what was present in real life.
Things like witch, monk, druid, shaman, witch doctor, priest we all probably associate differently than what they truly were in real life. It's just part of gaming history and I doubt they'll change the name at this point.
I honestly can see where your comming from. This situation is alot like resident evil 5 (however, not as descriminant or relative) both have stereo types of a culture (biases/ 'almost' bigotry) and cannot be ignored. However formal these classes are, if it falls under the catagorie of religious opinions or political correctness, should be avoided. Therefor the witch doctor class should have never been used, but it was an unfortunet unpassable dicision, its here to stay no madder how much we complain about it.
Blizzards just using the popular idea of Witch Doctor... When someone says "Witch Doctor" and "Video Game/Movie" the first thing that pops into my mind is crazy face masks, summoning beasts with chicken bones and dancing around fires while going 'boogalooloo'
In fantasy games we have fighting preists, ninja-esque monks and druids transforming into bears
I would like to think that most people know that in real life, African tribal doctors are much more brutal
Well... Thats what I'd like to think, although I find myself constantly surprised by peoples ignorance of human nature
One can find a reason that something is bad to just about everything out there.
For example - the word "barbarian" was originally an insult in ancient Greece to other peoples who did not have Greek as their native language. So... if I don't speek Greek, should I ask to remove the barbarian!
Though I do believe there are things that can be inappropriate for a game such as diablo (a suicide bomber class for example, one who runs into masses of mobs, yells "Die Infidels" and blows himself up... hehe... I just thought about that) I don't know if a witch doctor qualifies as an inapropriate character
Guess it's up to personal flavor.

I read it all lol......Yeah I can see where your coming from and I respect your opinion and thoughts....but w/e man its just a game...hope you post some more to!!!!!!
they will exist no matter what anyone does or says cuz that in itself are other ppls perspectives of how things are
but again it is a fantasy world
kinda like having a wet dream and then all of a sudden "ban on porn" noooooooooooooooooo XD
o and resident evil 5 really isnt racist
i see spanish and white zombies too lol actually one of them looks like this white guy i hate at work oddly refreshing lol plus its setting is in africa and 2 out of 3 main chars is also black lol
I dont know man, with all due respect to all the people who suffered the abuse of those witch doctors, there are many issues similar to these...
I dont really think that the WD in game will offend anyone IRL, lets face it... how many people that visit a with doctor play diablo 3?...
The WD in Diablo is just like the WD from WarCraft, its just a resemblence to the with doctors in our world somehow, but its a totallly (un-offensive i think) thing.
Now I can't really imagine one making a game where you can play the part of a muslim extremist and go on hunting sprees, while having Allah's godly-intervention and miracles backing you up.
It's really up to people to separate fiction from reality.
In creative mediums such as gaming, developer imaginations run wild but are generally limited by what we perceive and experience. Our creativity is influenced by such things. Witch Doctors in Diablo 3 are made the way they are quite possibly because the artist was influenced by the real deal. But that simply does not mean that they represent in game what a Witch Doctor is in real life. Far from it. You have to look at the context of the game, and you yourself need to remove real life from this fictional piece of work. As a Witch Doctor in Diablo 3 I am not running around beating up children. I'm killing demons, and all sorts of other evil. They aren't innocent kids, men, or women. In the context of the fictional universe, they are pure evil... and I must stop them!
There are people who cannot make the distinction between what is real, and what they perceive to be real but is actually fiction. I do feel sorry for them, as this will generally lead to many problems in life.
I pray that people do not look at Witch Doctors in Diablo 3 and translate that experience to real witch doctors in life.

I can't either, it'd be devoured by PC (politically correct) people instantly. But I'd love just for it to come out.
To your issues with Witch Doctors: this is a video game. I believe that overrides anything you had to say.
If people get their idea of what a WD is from video games, its their problem, not ours.
I can see your point, but like most have already pointed out, it's just a game.
And hopefully most of the diablo players can tell the Diablo witch doctor, and the actual African witch doctor apart, and know that the real life ones are much more .. brutal.
But then again, people do seem to be getting dumber :/

Paladins are based on Christian knights, of which the majority is considered evil by most historians knowledgeable of the time era.
Do you also propose in the next patch of D2 that Paladins be removed?

Untrue! Barbarians were largely those tribes living in Germania who did not know Roman. The Romans referred to them as Barbarians, as well as anyone else who did not know the Roman language. In fact, it comes into English from Medieval Latin Barbarinus.

Hanusslaque I did mention that historical figures arn't as inappropriate to work on these days. Witch Doctors are still very much a concern.
Though this brings up the weird idea, that probably in the far future they might just make games such as terrorist bombers etc. Crikey thinking it that way I don't know what is right or wrong to put in a game Basically just make sure you don't insult too many people at that current time.
The world insults each other every day. Some get upset, others don't. After a while you get to the point where an insult is nothing that really matters...

Doubt not the Xerj, young one - for he has both knowledge AND wikipedia on his side.
The great wiki one agrees with the Xerj. Read its words and tremble.
Greeks! Not Romans!
"The word "barbarian" comes into English from Medieval Latinbarbarinus, from Latinbarbaria, from Latin barbarus, from the ancient Greek word βάρβαρος (b?rbaros). The word is onomatopoeic, the bar-bar representing the impression of random hubbub produced by hearing a spoken language that one cannot understand"
"Depending on its use, the term "barbarian" either described a foreign individual or tribe whose first language was not Greek or a Greek individual or tribe speaking Greek crudely"
"The Greeks used the term as they encountered scores of different foreign cultures, including the Egyptians, Persians, Celts, Germans, Phoenicians, Etruscans, and Carthaginians. It, in fact, became a common term to refer to all foreigners. However in various occasions, the term was also used by Greeks, especially the Athenians, to deride other Greek tribes and states (such as Epirotes, Eleans and Aeolic-speakers) in a pejorative and politically motivated manner"
