I truly don't understand people who play women characters (unless your're a woman youself). I just wouldn't feel strong with a female barbarian even if i had the best gears in the game... I just can't take myself seriously with women chars, that's why i never played with a sorc or an amazon or an assassin in D2.
I like playing female characters in all games, and I'm not afraid to admit to it. Sure, I love looking at the female form, but that isn't why. I believe in strong females. I like reading about them, I like writing about them, I love meeting them in real life. Women are awesome, and frankly, I like surrounding myself with them.
Everyone's mileage may vary, but I hold nothing against people who play female characters. Do you think it is equally strange for women to play male characters?
See, that's what i don't get, it's a freaking female in a VIDEO GAME. How can someone find anything sexy about a video game character no matter how it's made... it's just beyond me.
Aye, I see where you're comin' from.
It really does vary depending on the individual. I remember back during my school days, my friends thought Lara Croft was hot. All I saw was a fugly polygonal mess... But you show me one of Akiman's illustrations of Chun-Li an' I'd just melt away.

Boris an' Julie rock!
LOL I remember ASCII nude art. I never really understood that, myself, but I knew tons of people that ate that shit up.
Finally, we're able to choose our class AND gender. I would loved to have been a female barbarian or a male sorcerer. Best still, a female necromancer... but now, in Diablo III, we have the opportunity to make this choice. I hope that they do these portrayals well, because what little I've seen from the gameplay trailer did not impress me. I like having epic characters, both in power and in appearance, that's just me. The barbarian looks tough, strong, muscular... the witch doctor is creepy and makes my bones squirm within my skin. I don't want to see a female barbarian that looks like a male barbarian with a couple of cups taped over their chest! But, at the same time, even if the female witch doctors have fantastic proportions, they should still creep you the f*** out (hello, Andariel? hot but very scary).
I want to know what others think about that, mature opinions warmly welcome.
haha hot andariel? ok, i said the same thing when i saw the concept art LOL.... we are all just SICK
Isn't in any games I've ever played. Even tabletop doesn't do that (at least, hasn't in decades). And rightfully, they shouldn't be; men and women are equally capable in the real world of physical and mental labors with very, very few exceptions.
''Men and womem are equally capable in the real world of physical labors..''
Sorry, but... in what world do you live?
I dont want to start a flame war here, but is a known fact that men are much, much stronger than womem, mens muscles receive more O2, our bone structured are stronger, there's no discussion in this, it's not a matter of ''womem can do anything a men can'' it's just the way it is. Proof: Compare male world records with female world records.
I do think that gender specific traits woud be a nice feature, males get improved str/vit, females get dex/int
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

Child birth being one of them I'm assuming.
If that's not labor I don't know what is.
Damn.. I'd hate to push a kid out of my....
kudos to you females. lol

Come on, you are just splitting hairs. World records? Seriously? Like that has anything to do with the day to day activities of the common folk? If you don't want to create a flame war, then why not contribute to the topic itself instead of trying to sway this into some kind of archaic discussion about gender defined abilities?
Fine, so you're FOR creating attribute bonuses for the genders. I'm glad no game actually does this. Nonetheless, thanks for your input.
Now, as to the original topic again -- I wonder if we will have amazons/hunters in D3. I really don't want to see a stupidly disproportionate chick firing arrows again. I don't care how sexy they might look, it just doesn't sell in the realism category. I suppose they may not get in the way if you are using javelins (argh, please PLEASE never EVER implement a line of class skills based on this horrid weapon again, thanks in advance), but they'd be a nightmare for precision aiming with a longbow.

OOohhh.. right, like, going into the depths of hell, wearing heavy armor, overloaded with loot, destroying demons and facing just a Diablo dude has EVERYTHING to do with day to day activities, but sure, a woman could take that beating, she has the same physical str of a man.
You're the one splitting hairs, you made the comparison of real world activities and diablo's sanctuary, not me.

How about this: women of Sanctuary 'look' slenderer than men of Sanctuary. Logic dictate that their body have less mass, meaning less strength. But...since they aren't bulk down with huge muscle mass, they should be able to hit faster!

We're talking about the common activity of a folk here. The common activities of these adventurers will be to use their skillsets in defeating monsters, don't you agree? How significantly different do you think a man will be able to shred the bodies of the monsters around them from a woman?
THAT is the point I'm trying to drive home. Putting activities into perspective. Male and female barbarians are still both barbarians, both are taught the art of killing with their blades.

Why is this topic being completely derailed like this? lol
If you want to discuss how male and female characters should have different attribute allocations, why don't you start a thread about it? The topic is about the art depiction. Nothing more.

Even if they are both barbarians the male would still be much stronger than the female, and you could say this by just looking at his size. But i do get your point you're thinkin only skillwise, i'm thinking only statwise.
But this post made me see something i had missed, gender traits would just unbalance the game(who would pick a female barb if the male has more str/vit?)

lol, don't blame me. I didn't start this
Male and female stat variation only works in true RPGs which have a spread of races as well as classes to work to improve on the diversity of the type of character that can be played. Doing gender stat variations in a game like Diablo really has no point.
But I am right, and combat is definitely no exception, other than ungainly breasts being in the way of a sword/bow arm -- something a true warrior wouldn't stand for in the first place. And, when you take the scope of video games, they are definitely equals, and I defy you to show me any mentionable exceptions in modern (or even classic) gaming that prove otherwise.
Firstly, your example posed the question of why shouldn't the genders be equal in-game if they are equal in real life.
You are not using other games as an example. YOU used real life as your prime example as to why the in-game genders should be equal.
There is a very good reason women did not participate in combat (often) in the middle ages and earlier--they were not nearly as capable. Close combat, depite what you may be misinformed about is a very physically challenging activity and the average women would be rather handily bested by the average male.
You are warping your original argument. Go back and read your post.
I have no problem with the genders being equal in game, your argument was just ludicrous.
Yea leave them equal ingame. You "could" make the females weaker but more coordinated or faster or a bunch of other things, but why? Just make them equal then players that would rather play as a female can do so and the ones that would rather play as males can do so as well with out any difference in gameplay.
As for the look, keep the females athletic looking...you dont need double D's to kill something and having 50lbs in your ass wont help you either.
Imaine if the male art had a bulge the size of a bowling ball in the front of his pants... a 50lb wang wont help you kill any better why would huge boobs, and a phaaaat azz. hehe got abit :offtopic:. its late im starting to ramble but you guys probably get my point.
I'm only worried they'll be really half arsed about the alternate genders, give the male Barbarian tons of personality and have the female one being just a token female Barbarian for example. I mean, I haven't seen any concept art for the female witch doctor (I think) - but hey, I'm sure they'll do a good job, this is Blizzard, they don't do half arsed.
