Finally, we're able to choose our class AND gender. I would loved to have been a female barbarian or a male sorcerer. Best still, a female necromancer... but now, in Diablo III, we have the opportunity to make this choice. I hope that they do these portrayals well, because what little I've seen from the gameplay trailer did not impress me. I like having epic characters, both in power and in appearance, that's just me. The barbarian looks tough, strong, muscular... the witch doctor is creepy and makes my bones squirm within my skin. I don't want to see a female barbarian that looks like a male barbarian with a couple of cups taped over their chest! But, at the same time, even if the female witch doctors have fantastic proportions, they should still creep you the f*** out (hello, Andariel? hot but very scary).
I want to know what others think about that, mature opinions warmly welcome.
I say male or female, go wit the Soul Calibur look: epicly cladded armored buff guys, and flimsy clothed big bewbed and leggy females...
I think there should be some room to breathe with this, though. You should be able to have very well-armored males and females, and they should both look really good with their armor. At the same time, if you wear lighter armor or nothing at all, that should be an option for male and females alike. Doing male depictions aren't hard, though, because for some reason, Americans aren't offended by seeing the male form as they are with the female form, so people are sometimes afraid to make their females appealing (fears of being called pornographic or sexist, regardless of how tasteful the artwork truly is).
I always thought that the females in Lineage/L2 were wonderful and gorgeous, sexy without sacrificing functionality and definitely not crossing any lines of pornography. EverQuest females are just a joke, their bodies are top heavy and grossly caricatured without any good reasoning.
i wonder if the stats will be different for male and female of same race
Isn't in any games I've ever played. Even tabletop doesn't do that (at least, hasn't in decades). And rightfully, they shouldn't be; men and women are equally capable in the real world of physical and mental labors with very, very few exceptions.
i think Rappelz has sexy female characters =) The female characters i saw in d3 were ugly
I agree on a hormonal level, but I think the images I've seen from Rappelz banner ads seems to be over-exaggerated. And I mean the females AND males equally! When I think of Rappelz, I usually think of that first ad I used to see all the time on Allakhazam.com at the top of the page with the unrealistically large pecs and biceps. I wondered how he would manage to clap his hands...
I sure hope like hell the women in D3 don't look like the chicks in Soul Caliber

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic

Am I the only one who thought this was funny? No, they aren't. Men are, as a generality, more capable physically.
There is a difference between equal rights and physical capability--only in fantasy land (IE Diablo 3) do women have the same capability for brute force that men do.

I'm also of the opinion that the female avatar's in DIII should not look like the Soul Caliber females. A more releastic approach with the look and armor placement, but am confident that Blizz will wont be giving us all sexy Night Elf types (as in WoW).
Just my two pence.
Okay, I went and googled some images, those are some very sexy females, I must admit! I'm not opposed to them looking that way at all, but at the same time, I want to appreciate the entire game, not just a couple of the characters bouncing along. And, frankly, their chests are too exaggerated for my tastes, even the hottest real life women don't all have jugs that big, so why do we need them that huge in a video game? Let a character's appeal be the entire body, clothing/armor included, not just one caricatured aspect of it.

Maybe the absolute upper echelon of bodybuilders, but in the every day world, no, women are very much capable of the same physical labours that men are. The women who do not do those things simply choose not to because -- and let's face it, who can blame them -- they don't have to.
Yes, yes, and yes, I couldn't agree with you more. (Though, yeah, I did look at the Ivy picture a bit longer than the others... yes, I'm a pig, I can admit it!)
I loved the armored look in that one link. I hope that, were there paladins in this game, they would resemble them.
Calypso (is that how it was spelled?) was the PERFECT example of a sexy evil she-shaman that would exemplify the creepy feeling, though she should probably have a bit of a hump in her back or something.

I actually prefer smaller breasts than Ivy's... I'd much rather stare at Jessica Alba than stare at Ivy. But to each their own ^^
The armor is pretty cool. And Calypso is right.

Okay, I've never played any Soul Caliber game, what's wrong with them? And which SC game are you referring to?

I hope they do and I'm making a petition if they don't!
Obviously...
There will be no difference. It's just cosmetic.
This was discussed in the videos by the developers.

Or too cute and colorful...

Some of them aren't that bad though, like this chick in SC:4 ...

But she's still too cute
The only mature one I've seen that isn't busty...

Is wearing a dress, instead of armor or flexible, durable clothing
This is how I want my female Witch Doctor to look like:
