With the new increased repair costs I am finding that if I want to try progressing through Inferno, the amount of gold I gain with 5 stacks of valor doesn't make up for the amount that I lose with repairs. I am in Act II and it may be a slight reach for my monk, it feels like I'm forced into playing the game one of two ways:
1) I can farm the end of hell for gold and make some gold, but not nearly as much as pre-patch due to just wear and tear repair costs. By doing this I'm giving my char no chance at getting an ilvl 63 and therefore progressing in game/item ability
2) I can continue progressing through Inferno act II, and spend gold to progress for the small chance at getting an end game item. Again I cannot gain gold here because I again have the normal wear and tear problem as before as well as I die every now and then. Occasionally I will make more than the repair costs, but there is no potential here to actually make any worthwhile gold.
So now I can gold farm for weeks on end to try to buy one upgrade in the AH, or just continue to spend gold hour after hour at the small chance of finding something worth while.
Also today I found that there was a nice enrage affix attached to elite mobs which only gives approx 3 mins to fight them before you are essentially killed off. "Out of time" does dmg to you and makes them harder to kill. Having a monk fight elite sand wasps you can't stand toe to toe with them, however if you run in and run out to avoid their poison attack you cannot beat them before the "Out of time" affix triggers. Talk about being forced to play the game a certain way. I've read the forums for years and never posted or joined until now because I hate how they billed D3 as you can make over 2 billion char builds or whatever the number was. However, how many viable builds do we have now? I feel like you're forced to play a certain way and if that patch doesn't work, they add something else to try to force it. It just takes all of the creativity out of the game.
Did you think of farming act 1? I'm poorly geared and die a few times (every thirty minutes), but I'm still gaining money. Blizzard is also addressing the wear and tear issue and looking to reduce or eliminate it.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I never said I die a lot. I don't die in act 1 or hell, however I farmed act one yesterday with 5 stacks of valor for 6 hours. I got 3 ilvl 63s all were blue and were no better than a rare ilvl 57. What I'm saying is that I get zero upgrades through farming, I cannot make money to get an upgrade on AH unless I want to drop down in difficulty giving no chance at upgrades. There shouldn't be ilvl 55 and below dropping in act II inferno.

That isn't an affix- all elite mobs have it. An affix is a random ability (such as waller or arcane enchanted) which elites have a chance of rolling up.
And yeah, completely skipping over the "right" answer- farm act 1- shows that you care more about bashing the game than playing it. If that's the case, cool, but you should probably just stop playing rather than whining for attention.

Your version of "farming" is not farming. People have farmed for weeks almost a month to get to where they are now, if you don't like it then you’re playing the wrong game. The fact that things can be purchased without using 3rd party sites has made life much easier than it used to be.

Additionally, the enrage timer didn't go in with 1.03 - it was in prior to that as well. The only enrage timers added were to specific bosses.
How do you think LEGIT people got their millions? They farmed... and farmed... and farmed... and then they farmed some more. You reap what you sow.
In Diablo you are either very lucky or you go at it until you get yours. If you are losing money or making small profits, you are either in the wrong act/difficulty or are just plain doing it wrong.
1) I said farming hell and not act 1 for gold because in hell I can just deck myself out in max gf and not worry about armor or anything else. So that is the "right" answer.
2) I've farmed act 1 pre-patch for weeks with another char and again no upgrades, so I'm not saying this after like 2 days of being in inferno or anything. I understand they just changed the percentages to get better item drops at lower lvls. I'm just saying I have yet to see this after a full day of farming and only saw 3 blue ilvl 63 out of hundreds of items. I know it can be lower for some than others (just so the forum trolls don't jump on me for that), but I also know that what they say in patch notes doesn't always work they way they say either.

I farmed Act 1 for 2 hours, 2 nights in a row and made 2.5 million gold between actual gold drops, vendoring sucky crap drops, and putting decent items up on the AH. By decent I don't mean item level 63 1.8 billion dps weapons. I mean item level 61-62 with decent stats that sold for 300-750k. With that 2.5 million gold I bought two upgrades off the AH and increased my DPS by 5k and got some additional survivability. If you farmed Act 1 for 6 hours and didn't make any money then you are doing something horribly wrong. You should be making at least 200k per hour between gold drops and selling rares on the AH, more if you have a GF or MF gear set that doesn't gimp you too badly.
If you did make 1 million gold and couldn't find anything to upgrade then you need to RTFM on how to use the AH. Sure you can't afford the stupid 200 million gold crap, but there are plenty of deals to be found by spending 15-20 minutes just looking around and switching which stats you are looking for.

You aren't the first person to say this, but it just is unfathomable to me. I found plenty of upgrades in Act 1 Inferno for my DH and Wizard. About 3/4 of the gear on my DH is from drops in Act 1 Inferno, and it would cost 2m+ per slot to get a slight upgrade from the AH. Not to mention I've been able to sell dozens of items for 100k+ and as much as 2m for a few items. The really valuble drops I kept, and from what I can tell, would sell for even more than 2m. Obviously I had to purchase a weapon, but there have been a lot of really good armor drops. There's only so many options: I'm really lucky, you guys are really unlucky, or people are exagerating their crappy drops. I just don't know.
Irregardless, the content in Act 1 is very easy and is highly profitable to farm, even more so now.

Easy? I am not so sure about that. Before the patch yes, now no. I was able to farm Act 1 on my DH without much problem before but now I have a very difficult time with elite and champion packs. So much so that the repairs eat up much of the gold I do find. It is just going to take persistence and playing around with a new build maybe. And no I didn't have tons of IAS, only on my quiver and Amulet.

What is your Vit? Armor? Resistances?
Im betting there is a weak spot in there. Something that can be addressed rather quickly too! (1 or 2 tweaks to the gear, maybe a skill or rune swapped out, etc)

They didn't buff Act 1 in any way, and you said yourself you didn't have much IAS. You need to find a new build, because there are a lot of options to replace nether tentacle that are nearly as good. I personally went from farming Act 1 prepatch with ease to farming Act 2 with ease on my DH. I changed Nether Tentacles to Screaming Skull and life was good again.

Once you have your 5 stacks up, are you still hitting Elites? Or do you hit the Butcher and restart?

I can't say right at the moment but I will send you a friend request when I get home and let you know then. I am sure it is stats just can't change them without gold or drops, lol.

Do a couple runs with me and both shall be addressed ;p. (I usually net 200k after repairs on a single run)

I *really* hate to be snarky, but you don't need iLevel 63s to progress. There are some amazing items out there which just happen to be well-rolled 61s and 62s.
Your repeated assertion that lack of iLevel 63s is what is hindering you from moving into Act 2 is absolutely asinine. My WD doesn't have a single 63 and infact has four sub-60 items. I can clear Act 2 with absolute ease. If I sat around feeling sorry for myself because I don't have 63s, I'd be back in Act 1 too timid to even kill zombies on the way to New Tristram.
