I have just got my infernal staff of herding made and am wondering which would be better for a WD with roughly 65k DPS to farm? Ponies or Seigebreaker?
I can do a pony clear in about 30 min tops, and a seigebreaker clear in about 20 both with 5 stacks and such.
What are your opinions on which is better to do regarding possible loot/time investment.
I personally like Ponies better. I clear it all with roughly 90 MF(excluding 5 stacks of NV), then add the rest of my MF gear(bringing me up to 310+ with NV) and open all the clouds. I usually net 4-8 rares a run, plus numerous blues(mostly from clouds). Not to mention, tomorrow with 1.0.3, boss loot is being nerfed and champion/rare loot is beign buffed, so Ponies will definitely be superior then.
after the valor change tomorrow ponies will be as profitable (if not more profitable) then cyd/azmodan runs. at the moment, both are more time efficient and profitable than siegebreaker. After the patch, any non-duo boss run, wont be cost effective with your time, so elite farming will (usually) be better.
Guaranteed rares off of ponies will make them super valuable.

Ponies will be the best farming place after tomorrows patch. I'm sure they'll revert the Valor stack item drop change as soon as they realize that everyone and their mothers will farm staff of herding.

Or just outright nerf the ponies, which probably arent intended to be farmed for stuff anyway.
Getting their loot and difficulty on par with act 1 would be the right choice iI guess.

Reading this, I'm wondering if I'm only person on Earth that farms 'Blizz intended' way.
I go from Kill Ghom Quest, building stacks by clearing whole Fire and Catapult area, tp to WP Depth 3 and clear whole level (sometimes going in level2, but usually just skipping due to Soul Reapers) -> skip Barracks and Ice caves, but clear everything else up to bridge -> get WP next to Siegebreaker -> clear Barracks + Ice caves with Tyrael help -> kill SB + Arreat level 1.
This nets me about 40 rares for 2-2,5h of clearing, which ends up being 16 rares/hour. Now, if you count that I kill ~25 packs of champions, excluding first 5, I will get extra 20 rares from patch change, bringing me up to 24 rares/hour (slightly less since I loose 2 drops total from Ghom + SB nerf).

Interesting strategy, but I can't play for hours at a time. I average 34 minutes doing Cydaea/Azmodan runs. Keeping track of 6 runs, I got 16 rares per hour average.
Siegebreaker is so much easier than ponies that I don't understand how you clear that one at almost the same speed.
If you CAN clear ponies you do that~~ if only for the gore
As a WD, I find ponies MUCH easier than siegebreaker runs. Most WDs run with only a single target spell so... siegebreaker isn't too fun. Also, there are no ranged enemies in pony level so it's a lot easier to kite without dying.
I usually only have trouble with ponies if the start area has something nasty like an invulnerable pack.

I find ponies to be MUCH easier than Seigebreaker. By a long shot. Then again I'm a glass cannon WD doing 65k+ DPS with only 15-20k health.
Notice a problem there from the start? Anything with a ranged ability can one shot me. Skeleton archers, quill bears, fallen shamans, javelin throwers or those fat casters are all a pain in the butt. If I'm not paying attention I die very fast when encountering them, or I run into a room and one is still left that I missed...or when a shaman resses a fallen right next to me for the second time in 10 seconds (yes I have cheat death, but it's on a longish CD).
Compared to ponies where the only ranged abilities are from rare/champ packs with arcane (easy to dodge) or mortar (which can be annoying at times). I can easily kite all the mobs in ponies and kill them no worries, not so with the ranged mobs when getting NV stacks to SB. Yes I could counter it by going how it's 'ment' to be played and go 40k HP and 600-800 res all, but what's the point really when it slows farming down by over 50%?
Thanks again all and not meaning to sound like a prick with my answer, I just wanted to clarify something is all.
You guys are insanely lucky to get 16/hr. I did 6 pony runs last night with a friend. All elite/champ/clouds done with average 285 MF including NV stacks. I manage to get 18 rares total. Lol. Can't wait to always get one instead of seeing 2-4 blues drop 80% of the time.

That will be the main reason why ponies will be the most profitable thing to farm after the patch.

1.0.3 patch info: "Magic Find will no longer be considered when looting objects in the environment such as chests, barrels, vases, pots, and corpses"
so no more switching to MF gear after clearing pony's to raid clouds
A good change. You'll be clearing pony level even faster now. Beside I never got anything useful from those clouds anyway. Pinata on the other hand...

I hope they increased the drop quality then... I have a feeling they didn't and chests will be complete crap now.... ::sigh::

Clouds aren't the reason for it. Read the NV change. Those ponies are considered act4 elite pack monsters which are on par with Inferno Diablo loot wise. They will ALWAYS drop rare item off them which has extremely high potential to be level 63.

It's the same as going for a full act 3 clear now...ilvl doesn't change between act 3-4
