Hey, I just wanted to share some thoughts with you, fellow diablofans and players!
I've been playing the game since release (exactly 6 hours after it, I went to sleep after seeing error 37 all time time ) and I must tell you I hadn't had good time with it until recently.
My main character is a Monk and, honestly, leveling it up was a nightmare for me. I hated getting r**** by hard packs and seeing wizards kiting everything getting it killed in the meantime. I also have tried rolling another class, but seeing my monk at 50ish level made me feel embarrassed being so close to the lvl 60 and not acomplishing it. So i gave it one last shot. I also have skipped a half of act 3 and the whole act 4, with the help of a friend I only killed Diablo on hell and got my @$$ to inferno.
At first, I was two shotted by the zombies and the wretched mothers in the very first quest, but I somehow progressed using public games (I usually play alone, but like playing with others a lot). It felt really bad at the begining.
The turining point was, yeah I know, it sounds stupid, buying some gear for 200k, yeah just 200k, but it was enough. I am now able to survive common monsters in inferno act I and also champions / elites with some easier affixes (e.g. shielding, extra health, mortar, horde - kind of these are no problem for me). I still struggle with combinations like arcane enchanted, desecrated, molten, vortex, but it is doable in a few deaths.
I really like playing my monk now, the gameplay has changed completely, I used to hate playing him, but now I love my character. I also was disappointed with the game for the most time, not willing to play it at times, but it's turned 180 degrees and it's awesome!
Here's my build, it's actually been purposed here, on the forums, and I guess it's quite obvous and popular among the monks: http://eu.battle.net...XegQ!YUX!ZZcZac the only difference is I use wave of light, instead.
How it works is simple, strike with deadly reach 3 times, then spam crippling wave for 4 seconds. Use breath of heaven to heal up, serenity in dangerous situations or to heal yourself too and Wave of Light if you just want additional damage. (You can replace Wave of Light with something else to add more survival, Blinding Light for example, of Exploding Palm (single target, e.g. bosses for more damage, but I usually use WoL the explosive light rune to knockback enemies and get away from danger). Having two spirit generators on your both (main) mouse buttons will provide a lot of spirit all the time, you generally won't catch yourself out of spirit.
I used a shield, used to dual-wield while leveling, but on inferno a shield is a must.
Yeah, I'm just a random, casual shinanigan, who wanted to say he's finally satisfied with the game.
And yes, I am aware of many flaws this game has, in particular I am still a little sad legendaries are weaker than rares, but we'll get used to that + they're getting buffed in the upcoming patches.
To conclude: I am now, finally, satisfied, with Diablo 3, it is finally giving me fun and I just wanted to share it with you, don't flame me for that. I beliveve there are tons of people like me, just wanted to stand out amongst those QQ post which happen from time to time now and bring up something positive.
YEAH!! I've only played with a monk so far. Was busy with exams from the 22 of May; luckily I'm finishing next Tuesday (hopefully). My monk is level 59 and in Hell Act 3, somewhere in the middle. I also just play alone, but I played a couple of public games but meh. Will probably play public with my next character after I'm finished with Inferno or fed up with him!
Why do you have two spirit generators if I may ask? Did you hit level 60 before or after finishing Hell? Hell is quite easy for me atm. BUT I do have a bad time with elite packs; the difficulty between them and normal monsters are huge! Maybe I just have good gear... I've only bought a fist weapon on the AH and nothing else. Sold one or two things, but I try to keep away from the AH cause I wanna find and craft my own gear, that way the game's still fun to play!
U can survive monsters in inferno act1 now....WOW...will back to this thread in a few hours, when u hit act 2 and tell us how u hate this game again.
Where might you be at in the game little boy? Did you lose your mommy? Is that why you are in here spewing venom laced sarcasm?
Or he's completly right and that's what will happen? Also same thing will happen going from Act 2 to Act 3. In middle of Act 3 my monk need 1KK+ upgrades for armor slots/2KK+ upgrades for jewelery slots and 7-10KK upgrades for weapon slot to be able to farm... upgrades that i already bought.
yep, from face-rolling act1 to barely able to kill white mobs and easy affix combo champs in act2, you will need a good 3 to 5 million gold worth of upgrades. and by going from act 2 to act 3, you are looking at 30 million gold + worth of upgrades.
I do like a hard game, but between the messed up economy and the steep difficulty wall between acts (difficult as in getting 2 shotted by white mobs with over 800 all res, not challenging mechanics) the game desperately need 1.03 patch.

30 million gold? Are you high?
I'm playing a wizard, making my way through Act 3 about to kill Cydea in infero and I've spent perhaps 4 million total on equips.
300~ resist, 29k DPS and I'm fine.

lol, people like this make me laugh, it is almost like they thunk it is cool to subtly mock someone for not being as far in the game as they are. "oh haha you are in act 1? tell me about your problems when you are in act 3, like me, the bestest ever."
rather than make a comment that relates to how they remember feeling similar to the OP does when they were starting act 1, they put on their best troll faces and act all smug.

that's because you play a wizard, not a monk/barb
To be fair, his definition of "fine" likely involves dying 2-3 times per elite pack.

were talking about taking a MONK through act 3, and 300 resistances on one would be an absolute roflstomp in the enemies favor, white mobs included. Most gear that gives a monk 100 resists runs for 1 million, multiply that by just the 8 armor pieces not including shields or rings/amulets and we are already at double the number you are suggesting. It might not be as high as 30 million but certainly higher than 4 million.
I experienced a similar situation. Act 4 Hell / Act 1 inferno was insanely hard, because I was very, very undergeared. I still suffered through it, and started a new character when I found out I had way too low damage to down The Butcher.
I leveled my DH to 60, started grinding and it was alot easier than with my monk. Got some gear for my monk, and now its all roses.

I think your estimate of 30 million might be off a little. Even if he were able to find good gear with 100 resists for 1 mil each he still needs a decent dps weapon with a slot for a Life on Hit gem or one already with the affix to start taking down mobs.

He might be a jerk, but he's sort of right. I mean, I died in inferno act I like 20 times. There was no major cockblock whatsoever, no affix combination that I couldn't kill (invulnerable minions can still be a bitch for a dh, though). I've got 38k life, low resists - granted and around 40k dps. Enter act II - owned by lacuni whatever. 1 shot. Also, champion packs are out of the question.
It's been a while. I wish I'd just stayed away so I wouldn't witness what has happened here. I'll be back in 20 years when Diablo 4 is ten years from release.
