Well that was my point. There was no further point arguing with you as you only see your view. You simply can't take what Blizzard has stated as their reasons at face value. You see everything as ridiculous and some how affecting your freedom (lol).
Can't have a discussion with a parrot. Might as well be sarcastic.

I could say similar things about you.
Sigh. you just won't give up. Alright, here it is for you: Diablo 3 has been built from the ground up to be an Online Coop Game. There will be no Offline mode and no matter how you want to rationalize they could have done differently, well, they didn't. This isn't infringing on your freedom to do anything. Diablo 3 is Blizzard's Intellectual Property and they can do with it as they please.
Who gives a shit that its their right to do this and its their properties?
I'm arguing what they should do, because they WILL be losing people and respect for it.
And thats the fucking point. People that won't bow down to crap like this will make gaming better. If all companies do this, it'll be shit. And people like you are certainly to blame.
And like that other topic, just goes to show how incredibly selfish the majority here are. It fits you, it fits what you want, and that makes it right.
Funny how the minority demands something and yet the majority is selfish for disagreeing
That's how democracy works, mate! The majority gets their way, not the minority! I'd love to live in a world where everyone would be happy about everything. But it's impossible. Just as impossible as it is to create a game that has features loved by everyone.
I would have preferred an offline mode but somewhat understand why is not going to be so.
I just hope to be able to play the game with no problem due to connection issues.

Maybe they should develop a unique version of Diablo 3 for every single customer? That seems reasonable.

This has nothing to do with democracy.
And refusing to please a minority that is part of the people that supports you and supporting the decline of gaming is sickening, too.
I understand that having the servers run the elements on the game that give you items and experience is beneficial to prevent hacking and cheating. I'm all for that. But not when they decide that you must have an internet connection for even single player.
The way I see it, they want to force everybody that plays the game online, so that they have a chance some of those who would have been offline 100% of the time might see the auction house, and might spend some $$. No offline mode means everyone who plays will have access to the AH, means more money.
One strong reason I propose that they should release an offline single-player/lan mode for the game (such as existed in Diablo II) is so that people can play without an internet connection (internet is expensive these days). Besides, I don't care if a few people cheat and hack the single player aspect of the game, it will have no effect on the battle.net aspect. Assuming they have enough control in the online mode to prevent it. Perhaps though it's because there is a slim chance of somebody hacking on battle.net (that there will be regardless of single-player or no single-player) that they want to minimize the opportunity to exploit the game or find ways to exploit it.
My overall opinion is that they need to include a single-player/lan system like they did with Diablo II.
If worse comes to worse I guess I'll have to buy a laptop and go to a coffee shop to play Diablo 3 eh? I don't like the thought that I can't play if my internet goes out.
I think their primary goal is to tempt all players with the use of the RMAH by forcing everyone to play online. Everyone who plays will see it, and when Blizzard reduces the drop rates of item X to 1 in 10 billion, people will be tempted to shortcut and use the AH. Based on their tactics with WoW, I wouldn't be surprised if they released RMAH only items to make money. I consider that a dangerous prospect, one that could turn into something very ugly.
Their reasoning is weak at best. WoW hasn't stopped hacking. Hacks just had to evolve different tactics in order to work with the server based architecture versus direct manipulation of game values. Not to mention WoW and SC2 haven't stopped LAN play or piracy. This gives me hope that some industrious fans will create offline play when Blizzard screws us over on D3, but it also saddens me to see that the new Blizzard is really Activision's pet. They look for any reason to strip features away from the legitimate buyers with no real impact on the pirates, even forcing legal owners to use fixes developed by pirates to utilize their game to the fullest extent.
I sincerely hope they will reconsider single-player at the very least, even if they don't give us a LAN mode. Without it there will never be mods, and mods added great value to D2. That was one of the primary reasons I kept playing for over a decade. Without them I probably would have quit a year after LOD came out, and Blizzards new customer service style is throwing into doubt the likelihood that I'll ever play the next one. I don't trust the web performance to be any better for D3 than it has been for me in D2 and SC2.

I am highly skeptical as to the value of mods to the longevity of d2.
I hadn't even HEARD about d2 mods until some months ago when people were bitching about online-onlyness back then. it may even have been from a diablofans article.
protip: modders will develop server workarounds to allow you to play on their or local virtual servers so that you can play whatever they've modded.
needing to connect to bnet to play the game blizzard sells does not stop modders from making mods that let you run their not-d3 game offline.
If you have a computer that can run the game, the price of your internet is a non-issue.
Telling someone they can afford internet if they have a capable PC is a jerk move. He may have the same computer he's had for 5 years due to budget limitations for all you know, Blizzard doesn't exactly make games with ultra high system requirements.

You just won't be playing with mods on bnet.
Whether or not you'd heard of D2 mods is irrelevant. That's a result of your personal habits and is anecdotal evidence at best. I'd suggest reading Gamefront or some magazines periodically, they do features on these sorts of things; mod of the year contests and whatnot. You might find some fun stuff you didn't realize you were missing.
We never played mods on D2 BattleNet. They had to be run LAN/TCPIP through unofficial servers. Blizzard is just making a big deal out of it so it looks like they have to spend years implementing mod support on BNET, when in reality people just want the same options we had in D2.

At the same time, the fact that you played them is anecdotal and irrelevant as well.
Show me some numbers on the number of unique users that used any mod at all, and I'd be interested to see it.
I don't think either of us has those numbers. I don't even know if anyone's bothered to compile that kind of information.
I know that mods weren't supported through bnet. That's kind of my point. mods for d2 were never supported, and they don't plan to support them for d3. Any modders who want to do something in the d3 engine will have to allow players to connect with one another like they always have (or to play offline in the case of single player mods).
edit: by any mod at all, i don't mean things like maphack, I mean things like different abilities or game systems or whatnot.
I'm still lost on why some of you guys weigh the cons over the pros. I understand your points, and most are valid points, such as internet reliability, cost, and no true LAN parties. You have to choose the lesser of two evils though guys, which Blizzard seems to be doing a great job of doing. Examples:
A. Let third party vendors profit of players by selling over priced, possibly duplicated items through unsafe transactions.
B. Integrate a system to have players do this safely through the game, and let the players create the market prices, collecting a minimum profit themselves.
A. Have unconnected single player for those players who don't always have internet, but let them come online with friends when they do have a connection. Risking that people will find a way to manipulate the game offline, and begin feeding into the economy with duplicated items or other mods such as map-hacks, farming bots, or spam bots.
B. Have a connection be required to play the game, which sucks for those without such means, but almost completely solves the problem of mods of any sort, and saves account details/progress constantly.
Of course this is a very short and blunt description of the pros and cons of each choice, but I believe B is the best choice in both. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet..

Cons easily outweigh the pros because for myself and others who live in Australia we will be getting pings over 350+ making Hardcore unplayable. So basically we lose out in that and single player will be hard enough due to always being online.... So yeah for me it easily outweighs the pros..... which is sad... Whats even more sad is you guys don't even report on it in the pod cast its all about auction house and pvp.....
The match making system will surely party, or match you with people who have similar pings. I remember reading about how Australia will be the only place that will get to choose their server upon creating their account, or something like that. I'm sure they'll try everything they can to give you guys the same gameplay experience as everyone else.

Instead of that, how about they put a server located in Australia and then we would not have to pick our poison literally.... Its not like we have bad internet its all about server location.. and really picking a server that has 300+ ping to something lower in the 300 ping is really not a good thing.... We still get screwed in the end...
You can have a 1000ms ping, but if you're playing with other people with a 1000ms ping is doesn't mean anything. I'm not sure why they don't put a server other there, maybe there's not enough sales.. Doubt it though.. Skill, as I said, the MM system will surely match you with people of similar ping, since that's one of the main reasons for a MM system..

Actually it does matter for hardcore and none hardcore because the enemies will be located on the server and they will be ahead of us. I am talking about the whole game aspect not pvp. if i got 1000ms ping it would be unplayable period...

Monsters don't have any ping. And 350 ping is a lot if you want to use that health potion at the last second.
