The next episode of Blizzcast has been released! Senior artist for Diablo III, Anthony Rivero, talks about creating monsters for the series including Mephisto and the Druid in Diablo II, and various monsters in Diablo III. The Diablo section of this Blizzcast starts at 33min for those who want to skip to the good bits.
Anthony: Probably the most notable monster I worked on was Mephisto. Phil Shenk had concepted Mephisto, so I already had something to start with. I modeled and textured him and set up the initial rigging, and then handed that off to Cheeming Boey to animate. I actually helped a little bit with the effects as well, the effects that are at the base of Mephisto. He has like swirling smokey skulls that kind of swirl around the bottom of him as he’s moving around.
For Diablo III, Rivero designed the heavy-armour set for the female Witch Doctor as well as many other monsters.
Female Witch Doctor:
Anthony:The Corpulent, the guy that blows himself up, I did some retexturing work on that. Let’s see, the tree that explodes, I helped with some effects work on that. I helped provide some modeling/texturing needs for the effects team. The shaman goatman I built and textured, the other goatmen I did some touch up on, their textures. The ghosts, I created and modeled and textured the ghosts.
Additionally, the concept art for a wicked new monster, the Malformed, has been revealed, of which Rivero also worked on.
Malformed:
Actually, the Malformed concept art was one of the many artworks viewable in the Artwork Trailer. The trailer, however, has since been taken down from the Diablo III website.
I don't know if they will really implement that bows have unlimited ammo, doesn't that take out the reality in the game?

Ummm, sorry but, what are you talking about, Flyarion? They didn't mention bows or arrows in this podcast, did they?
if you use a kind of weapon that would normally use ammo we just let you use it, we don’t make you go collect more ammo, it just has infinite ammo. It’s kind of to support more action aspect of the game.

I'm glad they got rid of ammo. It didn't add an extra challenge to the gameplay in D2 and didn't really matter for the balancing of classes. Having to deal with ammo was merely inconvenient.

Same here it did nothing more then become an annoyance and inventory waste. Seems like there doing a good job of keeping as much down time outta the game as possible.
Actually, the game Neverwinter Nights has a mod built by a few guys, their own server, it took them 6 years to make the world, called Path of Ascension, and the ultimate bows in their world have unlimited ammo - how it happens is, the ancient power within them summons arrows via magic. I think if Neverwinter Nights can do it, Diablo III damn well better.

Yes they did, when Bornakk interviewed Jay Wilson as part of the Q&A near the end. You must have missed it somehow.
Ohh sorry. Yeah, I even used the ctrl+f but didn't find it cause they didn't actually say the words 'bow' or 'arrow' lol. I didn't realise the Q&A was for Diablo as well, I just saw the first section of the Q&A and saw 'World of Warcraft community' and assumed the whole Q&A was for WoW. Thanks for letting me know, this is much more informative than I first thought.
I'm glad there will be less junk drops now, with no ammo or potions.
This is a pretty interesting side-benefit. I guess there'll still be the other un-magical drops to compensate for this. There are also the health orbs, which if it isn't balanced correctly, could become a very irritating drop.

I tend to agree with the other posters in this thread -- ammo was nothing more than an inconvenience. Since there isn't/wasn't magical ammunition in the game it's pretty useless as a game dynamic.
As for realism: I don't really think that's an issue in the Diablo universe. In general I also think that moving away from the realism fad in favour of better gameplay is a good thing.

I dont mind no Ammo for bows. It's like Diablo they will probably give us durability instead of arrows.

If we could somehow make this

And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
Except there is no durability anymore (allegedly).

If they had something along that line, it would at least have a significant mana cost.

...are you serious? There's demons, magic, and angels and you're asking how it's possible to have mouths on the stomach?
Let me ask you, how is it NOT possible? My god.
