I like how he says "keep a sense of realism" regarding potions. I'm pretty sure potions can really heal critical wounds instantaneously *sarcasm*. Diablo is a fantasy world of gothicism so health globes fit right in. IMO (possibly already said) Diablo 3 will be much more challenging than the previous 2, which is what i want the most.
Yes we must make sure to stay in the realm of realism. In fact I think that every 30 minutes you spend in the game you must go and take a shit. My barbarian was able to go DAYS without ever crapping! He is going to get an infection.
If you want realism go play the sims or some shit.
instead of health orbs they should have a pair of unique boots that absorbs pools of blood on the ground for hp. you could call em Blood Treaders.
I never understood how you could attack with both hands and drink 10 potions in 5 seconds. Imagined if they would have actually made animations for that ROFL. He most have used his helmet as a drinking cap or something lol.
Health orbs sound like a great mechanic but they graphically look weird. How are they suppose to heal you exactly and why can't you keep them in your inventory (lorewise of course)?

I like to think of it as the compressed soul/life-force of a monster. When you touch one, the outer casing breaks, thus releasing the delicious soul of the beast. Which heals you for some reason.
I'd prefer they not try to tie them into lore. Any possible explanation is cheesy. If they make the game better (and I bet they will) then fuck it. I don't need to know why the red balls make me feel good.

Outraged? I mean it's not a big deal ... I stopped caring about this kind of stuff since the first art direction petition. Hey I mean... I don't know if you guys realised it but this is a game ¬_¬. I won't say the classic :" if you don't like it ,well don't play it/go play something else" cause I think it's disrespectfull and outerly degrading but everything has to change and even tho you may not agree, it's for the better or the worst of the product. When you think about it, and this applies to almost everything, you can't judge something you never ever tried. You would be stupid to refuse this thing just because you made some crazy supposition and that you fervently believe in it. Not only are you people criticizing a 19 minute gameplay movie but also demantling an ingenious attempt to innovate a game system that obviously needed it.
I feel bad for you guys that write all these posts about the fact that the diablo universe changed because of the new Diablo 3. Wow the amount of stress and rage I see.... it's really not worth the time and effort. Hey, if you wanna get the rage out, why don't you go run outside, puch some guy on the street, even meditate... works with my grand-ma :D. By the way, about that realism thing. I won't stress this out enough... this is a game damnit. It's entertainment, food for the mind. Everything you see is not real and never existed.
The cartoonish style of Diablo 3 was a choice and the creativity/energy that was put into it is what makes it a unique piece of art. Some people like it and some don't but everyone will agree that every creation that pushes the limits must get recongnition for it's innovation. If diablo 3 fails to do so, I don't see why I should feel bad or be outraged about it. It failed.... it failed, just move to something else.
Boy this is a long post ... :S. Anyway, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
Orbs / Pots they're just the same.. Everytime you kill a group of monsters a potion or more would drop. You gulp a potion on your belt. Pick the potion that dropped from the mob to refill your belt.
It's just the same to me. Orbs own pots in my opinion. It ups the ante. Potions will be as valuable as aces in D3. Wheras a deck full of aces makes no sense.
what he said..
someone was worried about mana orbs.. well I hope no more easy mode like it became in 1.10, endless amounths of mana potions from vendor a frikin overpowered runeword to give you infinite mana. I wish people would have to invest some points to energy again unless they want to gimp their killing speed.
Maybe the red orbs are the essence that enemies use to heal themselves with, sometimes it is ejected when they die. (like in south park :D)
There are so many unexplainable things in both Diablo and Diablo 2 I don't see why something as simple as orbs need one. Simply say they are there and get over it. They didn't need to be explained in God of War... they were just there. No one said they would rather gain EXP the old fashion way.
2. I can't imagine how it can work. Why? Well, let's take such a situation :
There are 50 monsters around you, you kill them one by one, they drop potions, you take it etc. And here comes the time when there are 3 monsters left. You have 1/500 of life. You took every potion they dropped. You have 0 mana. How will you kill them? Assuming that they are quicker than you are, so you can't wait for the mana is restored. You can't buy from vendors. The only chance you have is to portal to town and wait when your health is restored?
Well for this situation you have to monitor how quickly you "drink" the orbs. Of course if you keep using them when at full health then it's going to become a problem.
I'm pretty sure this is pretty much a non factor though. They play the game all the way through at least once to see if the orbs drop enough in certain situations etc. So if they're not working well, they'll remove them, if they're dropping too much they'll lower the drop, if they aren't dropping enough they'll raise them.
3. Potions have one adventage as well, which is? Well, sometimes you FORGOT to take a bottle, and you died during the battle or you were running out of life and then they killed you (you had a lot of time to take a bottle, but you forgot, and you attacked the enemy with almost no life). And here, you will rather not forget to take it when sb drops it, coz from the beggining you will be used to collect every of them only when you see it. So it will be easier not to die coz of your stupidity. It might seem adventage over potions, but not for me. I think that for your mistakes, you should pay So what do you think about it?
No. Only stupid players will drink them as soon as they appear, or else you'll run into the problem you mentioned in scenario 2.
4. It's H&S game, i should depend on my agility, not fuc*ing luck. When i had 2 health potions i knew that if i screw up, i die. Some very stong guy from the mob will hit me and i'm not fast enough to drink a bottle, i die, it was your reflex. I loved when i fought with so strong guy that he needed 2 hits to kill me. It was fascinating and you were scary to come close coz you weren't sure if you handle to click on health potion fast enough. And here? How the fight against the boss will look like, if i don't have a potion? I don't get it. Will there always be some mob around the boss to make me find my potion? I liked solo fights. I don't want kill somebody only to get potion. I liked when i didn't have to kill anybody, i just could run around them and fight the boss. And now how will it look like? Sb knows?
Health orbs seem to have little to do with luck and more to do with preparation (equipment wise) and still reflex in how fast you can get to them. If you stand there and allow yourself to be killed and don't make a run for an orb, that's your own fault. If a monster is too strong and kills you in two hits, well that happened in D2 quite a bit in some cases.
5. Tell me the adventages over the potions pls, i can't notice them

I really think there will still be potions too despite what the new interview said, or else how would duels/pvp work?

Health Globes will not be dropping like they were this feature is only here to lessen the Potion Spam.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

I remember when I was trying to level a zon, I could use multi arrow like 2-3 times if I was lucky before my mana was dead gone.
