I was hyped to play ROS so i got on the paragon farming train. Now after blizzcon, i feel dissapointed. Additions to the game are so very few. At least what they announced i mean.
Pros
Nephalem Rifts
Bounties
New legendaries/sets
4th passive slot
new skills
Cons
crafting still a joke(no runes, no jewels, still too random)
no word on higher level gems dropping
no word on ubers(farm a ring, why bother farm them again?)
no word on the supposedly new mechanics, where we wont get 1-shotted, which is the reason life steal gets removed
2 hours deadline for a trade? I mean, really? Is there a reason for the 2 hour threshold?
magic find still rolling as a stat on items? why? Isnt it supposed to be useless through utility paragon points?
Thats all i can think of right now, im just trying to see if its worth it. I dont wanna be cheated again. Because Diablo 3 vanilla was like they stole my money
In an interview with reddit, Travis said that crafting now works the way that smart drops do. You craft as a barb, you get STR gear.
I get the feeling there's a lot we still haven't seen. And I'm sure they're tuning up combat, Wyatt has mentioned it in a lot of blue posts, and he probably would have loved to talk more about it, but unfortunately people were more interested in asking about including the Diablo 1 soundtrack with RoS, than about combat mechanics.
They also mentioned that it's possible higher tier gems drop, but haven't made any definite plans yet.

Just to speak to these two points
- the reason you have a 2 hour trade deadline with people you were playing with at the time you found the drop is because they want you to be able to play with a group, and share your drops with the other players. The rationale is that you found it "together" so you should at least have the option to share it amongst yourselves.
- You can't just dump all of your paragon points into MF, so it is still useful to have on gear.

Actually, what I think he said was that crafting works the same way as drops: SOMETIMES you get a smart drop/smart craft. I don't think every craft is a smart craft.
My understanding is that all crafts are smart drops, which helps justify crafting costs. Crafting will be much harder to do since you won't be able to just hop on the AH and buy all the mats you could ever want.
1)Crusader class.
2)New Act.
3)Mystic.
4) Not just new Legendaries, but ones that don't SUCK!
As for your cons, I agree with you on some.
Crafting:
Though crafting is getting some revamp, there needs to be more to make it interesting. I agree crafted gear needs to be more meaningful, but not to the point that it competes with Legendaries/set items.
The Blacksmith: I would like to see the BS crafted gear to be a very viable source of leveling gear. Then, to make him viable at 70, give him the new ability to add sockets (with a LARGE mat/gold cost).
The Jewelrcrafter: I am actually okay with no new gems. From the Dev team POV, its one less thing to balance around. So, with Covetous Shen, I would like to see Jewels. Take a certain level of Gem, combine with heavy mat and gold cost, and get a Jewel that has the original gems properties, and 2-3 additional secondary properties. And make them interesting. (A ring of fire casts when hit, Summon the Cow King to fight for you for 20 secs.)
I agree we need more info on the new mechanics. But, we may not get that till right before Beta.
Also, MF as I understood it will still be around, but not in great amounts. The idea is that Para points will be used to fill in. And they dont want everyone running around with a MF gear set.

I see the line in the sand. Time to find out who I am. Looking back to see where I stand. Evolution.
I, for one, am excited, no matter how the game changes, the good players will find a way to advance regardless how it will change. To me it looks a hell of a lot more fun and challenging from the outset.
Well said!

White items currently salvage into crafting materials. In the live game you have your normal, nightmare, hell and inferno materials. It's kind of awkward how you change difficulties and suddenly your reagents are no longer needed. We're making it so you use a single set of materials throughout 1 to 60. We want materials to matter but we don't want to make it a chore.
So it appears there will a material for 1-60 and then 61-70.
Well thats good news for crafting, its all too random as it is. This gives hope
As for the gems, what i really want is not higher gems than marquise. I actually want gems to be able to drop higher than flawless square. The amount of time and tomes of secrets i need to be gathering right now in order to make a perfect star gem is ridiculous.
Also not to be a downer, but the addition of just one class is not that much. Usually the added 2 classes in expansions.
Concerning magic find, i don't think im wrong. You can spend all your utility paragon points there. Given there is no cap on paragon points, this means magic find on gear in the long run is gonna be a useless stat.
Finally something im looking forward to: higher level items. Im really curious on ilvl 70 items
Adding one class fits for this expansion by killing two-birds with one class: even out melee vs ranged characters and primary stat users. RoS is following along in the mold of Heart of the Swarm: significantly improves a lot of the base features, with just a few well-placed additions.

You can only put so many points into the utility Stats. Now, I'm not sure how many can be placed into a certain stat though. I do remember an interview where they said MF should not be needed near as much with Loot 2.0.

Will this affect Crafted legendary items? "I learned a bit more about the current design for crafting, and wanted to take a moment to share. =) Bear in mind, of course, that this is subject to change as development continues. At this time, “smart drops” apply to all items crafted by a character. If it’s a general item (like a chest or bracers, for example), the stats on it will be tailored to the character who crafted it. However, there is an exception: if the item in question can only be used by a particular class, the stats will instead roll for the appropriate class. If you craft a mighty belt, for instance, you can expect to see Strength and other Barbarian friendly affixes on it."
Did some digging, and you are correct. This seems a bit OP, though. I play self found (so no buying mats on the AH), and I have accumulated quite a lot of mats. With this "all crafts are smart drops", I'd just craft some high level, non-BoA, recipes and sooner or later a beast would come out.
We'll see how it goes, but it sounds a bit OP to me.
Have you played the console version yet? The crafting there is always-smart-drop, but you still wear plenty of gear you find (especially since you're finding way more sets/legendaries).
Plus, I don't think we should assume the drop rate for mats will stay the same. It's much less on the console, because not every item salvages into Inferno mats.

Magic Find on gear will become less valuable as you put more points into the Paragon stat, yes - but when you say "the long run" you're essentially talking about most of your time spent playing. Last I checked, hitting the PL point cap in any one subcategory will require PL 200. Hardly "useless."

I already HAVE the mats, though. That's what I was getting at.
Sorry - I thought you were suggesting that they were just easy to farm up (and they are). As I understand it, they are consolidating mats for 1-60, but there will still be new mats for level 70 crafts. So, whatever the drop rate is for those will be a factor.
The drop rate for new materials has already been hinted at. We will be getting overall less Whites/Blues/Yellows than we do currently. So yeah, I'd say less we will have a lot less materials to work with. Hopefully we will also have to choose between Crafting or Enchanting with those materials, that would be an interesting choice.
Btw, I'm not sure if "crafting" on consoles is always Smart-Drop, can't remember. And even if it is, people are starting to think that Smart Drop = POWERFUL Drop, when in reality "trash" items will still be dropping even if it still rolls your Primary stat.
Just clarifying because I'm seeing some people confuse the concepts recently.
The only con I recall is a over-restricted trading system that is planned. It has the potential to kill one of the most important aspects of the game if not executed properly.
While there are other features I want such as PvP or Ladders. Even time attacks of a sort with the trials that are on hold...
The trading situation and how it effects my style of play, which is possibility of obtaining perfect stats. Is the single most important factor in whether or not I will buy the game. I already know the combat system is good. But it has never and will never be the main reason I play an ARPG.
Actually, I should say I won't be using a copy myself. As I'll be buying a few CE's as long as it's limited, regardless of the game itself. After all I like to trade and it's a sure gain
I want some assurances that rare drops for BoA craft slots will be able to compete with crafts. Haven't heard much other than general statements that rares will be "better" than they are now.
I was bummed not to hear about charms, gems and jewels.

+ new act looks great.
+ build changing legendaries.
+Loot 2.0.
+Paragon 2.0.
+Adventure Mode.
