So far I've only listened to Temp... and all I have to say is PRAISE THA LAWD, DEAR JESUS GOD BLESS US ALL! Seriously, some fucking ambient dark music. I absolutely hate grand feeling orchestral music. When i listen to Diablo music i want to feel depressed as fuck and I want to feel nervous when I hear an ambient noise in the back of the song thinking it's coming from my room. Diablo 3 failed epically at doing that. The overture is too big and WoW feeling and the only track I honestly loved was Leah, other than that it didn't make me feel like I was playing Diablo. Cheers! Here's to hoping every fucking track sounds like that!

Yeah all of them are pretty much awesome. Westmarch is amazing. I love them all really. For D3 Vanilla the only one I really liked was Caldeum. I always enjoyed WoW's soundtracks but they spilled over a lot into the compositions of Diablo 3 and it simply didn't fit in my opinion.

This is why I hate those grand orchestra feeling pieces. I feel like "Am I playing WoW or Diablo?" My mind associates them with Big open worlds and billions of people on a server at a time. Diablo 1 and 2 Both made me feel like I was trapped in a coffin, and they both made me scared when I heard certain parts of the music. Now I embrace it of course and I get cchills up my spine when I listen to Tristram because it evokes a certain sense of impending doom. Vanilla soundtrack wasn't as bad as I made it seem but you could definitely hear the WoW influenccce in it. After Listening to RoS though I feel they've started to get that feel back. Temp and The Bog and Bog are my favorites Westmarch is good and urzael I feel is more WoWish, not really to my liking. Guess you can't get everything the way you want it right?

For me personally, the soundtracks of a game is very very very important. If an amazing game has a crappy soundtrack, I might stop playing; but I played some crappy games (and watched stupid movies) just because their soundtrack was awesome.
If this is the real deal, I'm more sold than ever (and I'll play act V only). Though there was some ok-ish music in D3, it never caught up to the greatness of D1's tunes.
I think that D3 is more grand in scale than both D1 and D2 story wise so its musics have to suit that theme but listening to this kind of music again bring back memories.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Diablo 3 was just as small as Diablo 2 or Diablo 1. It's about a SMALL band of heroes who defeat evil. The stakes have always been the same and it has always been a very somber dark and eerie mood. The only breakaway from that is Cow level and Act 2 D2. Other than that though everything was pretty grim and dull. Sure the overall story was about this grand battle between evil and good but in the end it was dark. It was scary and it made you look over your shoulder. Diablo 3 failed in this category IMMENSELY. It took Diablo and made it's feel turn into WoW. It killed the mood with all this grand music, it didn't make me wonder what was behind me in the dark, it made me feel like I was playing something other than Diablo. Honestly the creepiest music in Vanilla was from ... Whimseyshire. That music makes my skin crawl. It's odd off-key and eerie. Even though the land is colorful and vibrant that music makes my hair stand tall. They should've made exceptions for Matt Ulemen but they decided to shut him out because he couldn't work in their studio, which absolutely sucks considering the Torchlight Soundtracks are fucking AWESOME.

I disagree. D3 past act2 is like full-scaled war. In act 4 we went to freaking heaven and it was in chaos. Also, the whole nephalem being stupidly powerful thing. Certainly not the same scale in D1 and D2. Only act5 in D2 has this type of theme imo. Other than that it was all about hunting the prime evils who hide in their lairs. I don't disagree that D1 and D2's music were more moody and dark overall but I think the settings in D3's story have a lot to do with its music being grand like in WarCraft. RoS may be different though. I don't really hate D3's musics in the first place. Most of them are beautiful despite not fitting Diablo much. Blizzard's musics are always pretty good.

I don't disagree that D3 music is good, I think it is in its own right. To your point about D3 being a full war I don't think so I mean sure it's a war and its grand but there's this sense of individuality that doesn't quite fit with these grand scores. Heaven is the only one that it fits with to me. Everything else is dungeon crawling. Bastions keep was still pretty eerie and creepy visual wise. I feel like they just tried to hard to make this fight seem bigger than just you, but in reality it fails because IT IS JUST YOU. No one comes close to being on your level. You're the shit man its all you and knowing its all you, you have to watch your own back and always be aware of whats going on and you're always scared that something might get you because you are Humanities last hope. That's why I feel like they should've kept it much closer to D1 and D2 in terms of the music style. It just made you truly feel like you were alone defending the world from evil.

Vanilla D3 other than Calduem seemed to uppity for me like the place was always under siege or something.
