Kill stuff, explore, enjoy the time you spend in Sanctuary. Chasing pure efficiency in a mostly single player game with a static world and no competitive aspect whatsoever is just not a very good way to experience it.

posted a message on 2.0 finally here. What are your impressions thus far?
Loving the clan feature, the density feels pretty great, and overall the game improved tons. I'm leveling a character on hardcore, it's just really, really fun. Don't know how long that fun aspect is going to last this time around, but its clear that the patch is a big step forward in the right direction.

posted a message on Thoughts on Path of Exile?
PoE is a great game in my opinion, but I do prefer D3, with all its flaws. Something about the atmosphere, the graphics, the sounds, the combat... it is just more appealing to me, and even though I won'tbe buying the expansion at launch, I will definitely play 2.0.1 a lot. If only PoE had the amount of polish D3 has, that game would kick some serious ass.

posted a message on 2.0 will be live in two weeks, Wings of Valor for pre-purchase.
Two weeks would have been my guess, PoE mini-expansion is released the next day, perfect timing to get people back to D3.

2.0.1 can work with AH for a few weeks, no issue there. Blizzard will probably want to bring back players with the patch to have more people buy the expansion, I would be shocked if they don't release it soon.

posted a message on While you are bored waiting for RoS...
I'm going to try MH, it was a crappy title at launch, had no intention to play it, but everyone seems to be saying that it has improved much since then and I'm interested in playing something from Brevik. I've been playing PoE for the first time in six months, I only got to level 30 before during the beta, but I think that it is the best ARPG in the world right now. Gonna sink a lot more hours into that game. The depth it has is quite addicting.

posted a message on Why the desire for a ladder system?

I'm afraid Blizzard could be stumped about the ladder system. They've only mentioned it once, in an interview a few months ago, and have kept completely silent about it ever since. The maximum number of character slots is too limited for any kind of ladder or race system that would allow your characters to return to non-ladder at the end of the ladder season. Also, there's absolutely no indication on how the system would actually work in D3, and what plans they have for it. I'm guessing no one at Blizzard would want to simply have a D2 type of ladder, they are probably trying to do something at least somewhat similar to PoE, or anything that would at least marginally evolve upon the idea of the D2 ladder.

Honestly, it was an addition I was most excited about with the expansion. It adds to the longevity of a game that will still desperately need some, even more so if the rates on the smart drops remain reasonably high. If we don't hear anything about it in the next two months, I don't know... Gonna keep my expectations low on this one.

posted a message on The definitive BoA Thread on Official D3 Boards.

Considering the ramifications the system will have on end game, smart item drop rates shouldn't go above 10%, and that's being generous. You'll still have a nice solid chance to get an item suited for you without that system, and finding items for your other characters has always been a big part of this genre of games. The lower they keep the chance of a smart item dropping the better for this game in the long run.

Its still early to say that Blizzard will go full instant gratification, console mode with RoS, but its most surely something to be considered. Whatever happens, in a few months you'll finally be sure if they want this game to be a deeper ARPG or just a casual farm fest.

Leveled a couple of new characters on PTR, Story Mode of course, and every act boss dropped a legendary on the first kill. Don't know if it's 100%, but it sure seems so.

    Quote from Pietrak

I don't believe anybody who says "i'm not buying RoS because it's too expensive". I just don't. We will all buy it just to see how good it is.
You'll pretty much know exactly how good the expansion will be before the launch. The beta offers everything the expansion has to offer, and in the next few months with the tweaks and official Blizzard statements we'll get a crystal clear picture of RoS as a game. This is a fair move by them, letting the players watch/play through all of the content in beta and decide for themselves is this expansion really worth their money.

Considering the amount of hours of gameplay a new class, act and adventure mode will offer, 40$ seems like a good deal. If you simply enjoy farming, maybe trying some fresh builds with the new legendaries, than RoS is definitely worth the money on launch. All these aspects of the game are polished and work great in the expansion, along with the streamlined leveling system.

Other than that, the game doesn't really offer much, and it seems that it will sadly once again get pretty boring after a couple of weeks (mostly for softcore players). So, if it does feel like 40$ is too expensive for you at the time of the launch, and you have better things to spend your money on, it's OK to wait a bit and see how everything will play out in the weeks after the game is released. Even when, or if, ladders and competitive PvE are released, the players who got the expansion on day one won't have any real advantage over a player who bought the game later on.

Better to wait than to get frustrated for spending money on something you won't really enjoy that much. This time, Blizzard made the right move to make all of the content public months before the release, and no one will be right to blame them or to ask refunds for the game like they did with the original D3. RoS will mostly sell copies on it's own virtues and quality of design, which is a good thing, while D3 earned a lot of millions solely on the legendary legacy of the Diablo franchise.

    Quote from Catalept

This is an awesome idea, but (assuming they're not already working on something like it), it would cost millions and delay release by months.
It would take some time but it would definitely not cost millions to make. It's only a tower and some trials, re-using models, animations and environments that are already present in the game. Even the cosmetic rewards can be something that currently exists in-game (like that El'Druin one in the picture). Balancing the difficulty would probably take much much longer than designing all of this.
