Hey guys, I am not that concerned about this because i dont think blizzard would do it to the hardcore fans of diablo, but my freind says that he thinks D3 will be ruined due to blizzard making the game too easy for the casual player...i sure hope this isnt the case, as we are seeing this more and more often today (and im sick of it). stay hard like D2 please.
Lol..I hope it happens just so i can laugh at all the "hard" fans start whimpering at their new found casual status...Its just a game, theres no pride in it. Its about having fun, not being so incredibly pale cuz you have played nonstop for 5 years.....
Blizz will pay attention to all fans, the "hard" ones and the casual ones just looking to have some good old dungeon running hack n slash fun.

With the exception of Hell Difficulty because of it's very nature, Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 were quite easy. Anyone, even if they had never played a game like it before, could pick any class and just about any build, and just play the game. They didn't need to study page after page of information and really learn the entire build and character inside out. This is good. I doubt that will change. Someone who has never played Diablo or Diablo 2 should be able to pick up Diablo 3 and play it. Maybe not well or super awesome, but play it none the less.
I like that about the Diablo series. You can even forget about it for years at a time, come back to it and play again without havingto relearn stuff.
I used to play AOEII fairly religiously, then I stopped for about 4 years. Picked it up again, got absolutely hammered. I had forgotten almost everything. I knew what made what units, but that was about it. I had forgotten the set pieces. How far in do you hit the Fuedal age, when should you get a Castle, when should you start building an army.
I like that those sorts of problems do not occur in Diablo. But I do agree that it should be a game for gamers as well. People who are experienced with the series. So it will be a bit of a trade off.

umm...first of all D2 was not an easy game by any means..it was atleast average. Hell difficulty with the new patch was REALLY hard...granted some characters, groups, equipment, skills, and so on really helped.
To the first poster, you are reidculous. It isnt about it being hard so i can brag..its about having fun, and i dont have fun with a game that i can beat "with my two balls" as pure ownage put it. AKA WoW lol. oh and diablo is NOT a casual game. I am simply saying, easy games are just not as fun and rewarding..if its easy and everyone gets to 99 and beats hell and has all the good equipment, it takes away from the status you hold in diablo and the fun of it all.

If you think D2 is hard-core and WoW is casual you need to switch to some better medication.
What about the hardcore mode? Got my Necro killed in hell and lost everything... and I'm a pretty experienced D2 player so. The diablo serie has always been simple really, take a weapon and kill these bastard demons. With hell and nightmare you get some more things to handle like monster resistances, more hp, sometimes more monsters. There are a couple of easy ways to turn a simple game into a hard nut to crack. I'm pretty sure they have a lot of information the haven't shared yet. (that might dissipate your concerns.)

Totally agreed lol.
That guy must never raided one single time in life, and because of that, have absolutly no idea of what wow is.
About D2:
The simple existance of the Hardcore mode proves that D2 is a uber easy game. A hack n' slash that can be finished in any difficult without a single death is uberly easy...
Thats why hardcore mode have this name. The game is totally casual, but if you wanna have a deep experience in PVE you can choose this mode wich only those who 've really mastered the game can beat in all difficult.

Hell is not hard, never has been, and never will be, if DII will keep being as it was. Hell simply takes a while. But it's not hard. Hard is when you come in and no matter what the hell you do, you die. Hard is when you have to improve your own raw skill to survive. That's hard. And it never happened in Diablo. Diablo was always about wasting more time to get better equipment and reach a higher level.

It's a very casual game. You don't need to know anything to play it, or figure out anything. All you do is make a char, go out, and kill things.

What you described is exactly what happens in DII on a daily basis.

What about the hardcore mode?
The fact that it exists and people play it and get to high levels in it pretty often signals that the game is ridiculously easy.
Never dying in your average FPS is much harder than it is in Diablo.
Huh, I never meant to say that the game wasn't casual, what I wanted to point out is that you can make a casual game appealing to experienced players by adding things like hardcore mode and hell difficulty It is true that hardcore is kind of easy, but the server lags make it more challenging especially if your game freezes for like 10 sec and BAM you're dead
HA d2 hard.. HA that makes me laugh. Only hell mode was actually hard and in single player nightmare was pretty difficult but do-able. In any case Diablo can't get any easier unless you make it like one of those gay arcade games on addictinggames.com and if you don't like it or a few hundred and a thousand bots on those petitions don't want it then they won't listen they don't really care about those few hundred cause they don't need you guys although they want you

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I distinctly remember an interview with some blizzard guy saying (in answer to a question about the DIII demo being easy)was because it was early levels or something and that the game gets progressively harder as you go along. So i dont think its going to be too casual but there making it playable for all people no mater what skill lelvel.
Personally, a casual game is one that's relatively easy to begin, regardless of how it progresses later. A hardcore game is one that requires you to think before you can begin properly...

For me a casual game is a game that requires small amount of time to make any progress.
Diablo is casual because you can sit down anytime you want, play for 30 min or a hour and have real progress.
Games like wow is really not casual.. all the raid stuff is really complicated and requires alot of patience, time and dedication to work out.

I agree with you completely italofoca. Blizz is even transitioning WoW into a more casual atmosphere as well. I feel they have a good grasp of how to make the game fun for both hardcore and casual types of players. However, they will lean towards the casual players more because they make up the bigger player base and it would be stupid not to cater to that.
Hardcore players will play because they love the Diablo series no matter what. So it will always seem easier to them, and they will always beg for a tougher game. If you look at WoW before the first expansion it was only hardcore players that could do anything and get any of the good gear. Nowadays, a much, much larger portion of the player base can do everything. I have a really good feeling this will benefit D3 because Blizz can balance it much more between the hardcore and the casual.
The point is not that diablo 2 is uber hardcore, as so many of you fools have been trying, unsuccessfully, to twist it.
The point is that diablo 2 was already a reasonably casual game, and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that it requires any more dumbing down, newb-friendliness, or simplicity.
