Whats up guys. I have a level 60 monk on act 3 of inferno, but I intended to play DPS at launch and severely regret my class decision as monks are forced into tanking roles in inferno due to unbelievably stupid class balancing on blizzards part.
I decided to roll a wizard today because I want to be able to solo inferno and DPS... That was my goal coming into this game and as a monk you're just way too gear dependent to do anything but tank until you have a fortune/really lucky drops.
So I've come here to ask you guys what build I should use. My goal is strictly to solo inferno. Ideally I would like to be able to kill elite packs for the nephalem valor, what build is best for this?
there is a plenty and plenty of topics about builds and ideas and gameplay and everything, do you exapact someone will come here and copy all that here for you ?:/
my problem is that half of them seem out dated due to the nerfs... No I don't expect people to give me a compendium of builds i'm looking for peoples thoughts on what builds are currently best for inferno after the recent nerfs...
There also aren't many topics about pre-infenro builds... I don't really see how this is so redundant?
I just don't understand the mentality here! You want to solo inferno. Cool! You want to do it on a wizard. OK! You want to do this because you need good drops to do it on a monk. You want to be able to do it with little to no drops or something? All classes need items to be viable in inferno. Thats been clearly stated for a while.
Not flaming. Just don't understand. You'll need good items regardless of your class. If you don't you can count on blizzard doing some reworking. Like force armor or smokescreen. To solo you'll need a good selection of survivability and DPS abilities and items. Regardless of your class this will always be true. You're not going to beat Hell and walk into inferno and 3 shot everything. My wizard friend never used force armor and has plenty of trouble with the game. My other friend used the force armor method and now is emo about the class and rerolling a DH. Just have fun with the game where you can getting the items necessary to play the class the way you want.

It's kind of a generally accepted fact that monks and barbarians are more item intensive in inferno right now, particularly for soloplay. I think the difference is that DH and wizards, while they still need survivability stats, don't need them to the same degree that monks and barbs do. Obviously melee classes are going to have to tank more hits. Wizards and DH can avoid a lot of affixes and base mobs by simply kiting this means they can afford to stack damage higher and aren't essentially forced into building tanky. Yes, youneed vit and some other defensive stats, I understand, but the fact is that as a monk or barb you really get forced into building almost 100% defensive and trying to tank for a dh or wizard. Thats just the best way to do it because unlike the wizard and DH, you can't afford to forego and survivability at all. If you try to mix and match and maybe go 50% vit 50% dex, you're going to get obliterated. The DPS you gain from that doesn't compensate for the lack of survivability and you end up unable to solo elite packs or much of the content at all. If you go full tank you can't solo it either because you have no DPS, but you can at least get carried by a ranged DPS and be of some use to them.
So the reason why I think monk and barbarian are more gear intensive for soloplay and probably for group play as well is because you can't really even think about DPS. DPS needs to be an afterthought on your gear which means you need really good gear with 6 affixes per slot to start being the hybrid tank/dps that is capable of soling anything in infero. That is to say, you need to stack the vit, life%, resists, armor, etc just like a tank, and you need to get your DPS stacks from addtiional affixes. You just need really high end gear that has both high tanky stats and high DPS stats. Naturally this gear is expensive as **** or rare, so you need good drops to afford it, thus you need to build tanky and group up to even think about farming anything for drops, thus you end up the tanky monk that my main is... Don't enjoy tanking at all, find it incredibly boring, never had any intention of building a pure tank monk... Yet here I am with 40k hp 5.5k armor and 700 all resists... 3k dps. living the dream.
Am I leveling a wizard only to farm gear for my monk? No, I'll probably enjoy wizard as well and play/gear out both as much as I can. I'm not a tank though, never played one before and I don't enjoy the play style so yes I am going to try to gear my monk out via my wizard so I can stop feeling sorry for myself that I rolled the gimp tank bitch class and being bored out of my mind.

Best not have discussions about things on discussion boards. That would be terrible.
Rerolled from a Barb myself. 55 right now in Act 2 playing solo because I'm a bit paranoid about joining public games. This is what I run around with http://us.battle.net...XOjS!aXU!ZbabaZ
Ooo, Disintegrate with Temporal Flux! I gotta try that, I never realized disintegrate did arcane damage. I wonder if the slow stacks with Blizzard?

As far as I can tell only the largest amount of slow works.
Slow time + Blizzard + Temporal Flux does not slow very much when you would assume it would basically stop things in their tracks.
The FA build still works really well for hell. Being able to melt through things with 12k dps turned 3-6 min kite sessions into a minute or less. The only problem with this method is you'll need to farm Act 4 quite heavily before stepping into inferno.

Secondly, what stats should I be trying to stack?
Any thoughts on different builds for NM/hell?
Much appreciated.

Mirror Image with Duplicate, or extension of will (if I really need to have them most of the time I put extension of will if not Duplicate)
Blizzard with Frozen Solid or Venom Hydra
Teleport with Wormhole
DIamond Skin with Crystal Shell/Enduring skin (enduring skin if I don't take that much damage)
Signature spell: Shock pulse with piercing orb
right clic spell disintegrate with Chaos Nexus
I find that Diamon Skin is a must at all times, and mirror image helps to decoy ennemies
Everything below that line is irrelevant. What works in NM is not necessarily what will work in inferno.

yeah because the OP didn't say he wanted build for difficulty lower than inferno, he is lvl 30 now do you actually believes he's in inferno?

With enough dps stuff melted rather quickly.
