I am now going to check this but if it is true then its obviously a bug because it just doesn't make sense. What would be fun is if this allowed you to get up to 6 dogs (3 from the spell and 3 from the talent). They don't do a lot of damage anyways but it is still cool.
In response to the OP: I just tested this. My zombie dog stayed around after I changed circle of life to jungle fortitude. I do not have zombie dogs in any skill slots.
Nah its not a bug, zombie dogs arent neccessarily very powerful. There are to many ways to summon zombie dogs for something like this to really matter. If left for to long on the front lines they will die fairly quickly, and you will find yourself swapping back to circle of life every other combat. They can be pretty powerful when you sacrifice them for 200% weapon damage each however, but that requires that you have ways to bring them back to be very useful
It was better when zombie dogs actually stayed alive for a long time.
It sounds like a bug though. If you remove the skill from your bar the dogs go away. The same should happen if you remove circle of life and the skill is not on your bar currently.
Just one. The most I got up to was 2 at one point. 5% isn't enough to maintain 3 without being lucky, given how easily they die in patch 15.
with jungle fortitude they never really died much for me unless they were stuck getting attacked while i was attacking a different group in open fields. although im very active in kiling monsters as soon as i see them as fast as i can.

Exactly, so when you can't kill shit instantly/fast they will just die off, meaning they can't tank for shit also, SK says 1shot.
in the beginning when mobs have double dmg yes. but later they will be fine. remember the double dmg only was applied to levels 1-13 and then trails back on track up to lvl 20 when its back to normal. so after that dogs will be much much better at surviving esp if you take zombie handler im sure if you really want them to tank longer

That's assuming the damage was linear. I would assume that they increased the damage in the first 20 lvls because that was their "intro" period to the game which had vastly less damage output compared to the later levels and they felt it was too low.
Anything past lvl 13 is blind speculation. I hope that they aren't even more worthless at later levels but personally I'd be pretty surprised if they're viable in Inferno. We'll see!

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

If they aren't viable in inferno then they aren't a real skill in this game. Its worthless. Blizzard has said numerous times that this is a pet based class. If the pets can't stay alive, then they are worthless thus the WD is near worthless. Like a summoning druid in D2, except at least the summoning druid could spam his pets that ran up and got 1 shotted.
However, to to be honest I too am afraid that blizzard's incompetences will shine through and this sort of thing will happen. Thats why I will likely either play the DH or Wizard. To me its not worth the potential frustration of ending up with another useless summoning druid.
Idk how gladhehasbeta can be so optimistic to tell you the truth. There is nothing that amazing past 13 that will increase the pet surivviability by any huge margin. If they are getting 1 shotted unbuffed now, then even with the every best of buffs they would be getting 2 shotted.

They are only being one-shotted at the skeleton king right now; and they aren't even necessary for this fight. Before panicking about their survivability; let's see other bosses first. The flip side is, is that the witch doctor is extremely potent against the skeleton king - especially after you soul harvest that first set of adds. No other class is giving a free 200%+ damage increase against him; and the ability to kite him around at will, and render his adds dead very quickly. And do damage to him while you move around (ie corpse spiders).
Your second set of dogs is more survivable (it seems), perhaps because they get more health and do more damage while you have your intelligence buffed? Not sure.
I can confirm this bug still exists, noticed it back in patch 14. Only difference now is that in Patch 14, the dogs still carried the last rune you had equipped on "Summon Zombie Dogs" even though it wasn't on your bars. Now it just summons regular dogs if you don't have the skill equipped. So at least that bug has been fixed.

They are getting 1 shotted in multiplayer games as well. Also they were being 1 shotted in the zones past the SK.

Why would you use dogs in groups? They are tanks when playing solo, that is literally their intended purpose. And they are getting 1 shotted in zones people werent intended to be in (AKA were not balanced at all for what was going on in beta).
If you wanna hate on dogs or WD, then be my guest and play a different class. But I don't buy this sky-is-falling rhetoric and will enjoy playing a WD.

Well I guess you could make all the WDs make a completely different spec for group play, but that sounds like bad design to me.
Those are zones they we are supposed to be in, as you kill the SK at level 8. The beta just doesnt let you go there, and people farm the SK to 13. This is pretty obvious....

yes anything past 13 is blind speculation. im just using this awesome thing called "common sense" and "logic". obviously the dogs were near invincible at max lvl which is why zombie handler got nerfed from 60% to 20%. but thats not going to make them go from invincible to insta-death. common sense dictates that later on they will be fine at tanking, they dont NEED to be tanks at the lower levels at all, at the beginning i forgot to even summon them because the beta is so easy. obviously only release will reveal one way or the other but if blizzard is pushing this as a pet class then obviously the pets will be decent tanks. and we havent seen the garg yet so we know nothing about him. if pets are truly squishy and worthless obviously blizzard will buff them when everyone starts tripping about it

Just read this in the bnet forums, maybe too good to be true?
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4217173602
1. Level 10 equip 'Circle of life' which gives a 5% chance to spawn a zombie dog when killing an enemy.
2. Spawn 3 zombie dogs using the passive. (It seems they all spawn at once, bug?)
3. Change circle of life passive to something else.
You now have zombie dogs without the zombie dog skill in your bar.
Edit: I'm new to the beta so not sure if this was possible pre-patch 15
Ok thanks for the info
Did it summon 3 dogs or 1?
