Expansions don't have to be started in a clean slate... it's supposed to be in addition to what you already have. it will persist through the expansion and nothing about loot drops have to be changed because... loot is still hard to get on your own that is an upgrade.
I actually can not think of anything positive
So what do you guys think?
I think that's your problem right there. Constant negativity will eat at you like a cancer.
I don't have time to rebuttal more posts, but what positive can you think of by this system? The only positive is a temporary fix to bring back players. There isn't much except negative in long term planning. This system potentially can hurt future expansion packs. A system like this punish new players or can potentially punish existing players' hard work when expansion pack hits. I will go into more details later.
I just want to note that we're having this discussion to put a light on a pot

I just want to note that we're having this discussion to put a light on a potential issue. I personally find the paragon level fine, except I just foresee terrible consequences of it down the road. We want to plan long term for diablo 3 and not short term. It might be fun now, but can cause dire consequences later when the real fix is decided.

Just enjoy it for what it is and don't worry about the future (That's Bliz's problem) - just work on progressing your P levels and change things up once in a while. Maybe help noobs fight bosses or try some AH buying and reselling, buy (or find) some plans and craft for people... there are plenty of things to do in the game. I love playing pub games and experiencing other people's builds and to me that's fun. Bend with the wind my friend otherwise you're liable to break.

The fact that most of the community LOVES it and it's rejuvenating players and bringing players back to the game?
The fact that if we put enough time in we can be free of MF on gear, therefore making it slightly easier to find ultra high-end gear (it's one less affix that MUST be on the piece).
The fact that I run around doing MF runs and every now and then I gain 3% MF, 3% GF and some stats? It's like a small bonus every now and then for doing stuff I was already planning on doing.
The fact that coupled with the class overhauls (people are now attempting to do what is FUN with their class instead of simply what is effective) and the legendary overhaul (people are now excited to see orange/green text), PLevels are just icing on the cake. People are having a lot of fun waiting for that loot explosion on a champion pack. Seeing their XP bar inch along only helps validate that for many people.
If you're hell bent on seeing the glass as half empty then you can never comprehend how it is half full at the same time.
With expansion a year or so away, I would like to see pet battle included in the next expansion, you'l love it, you would be able to battle the criters you are stepping on now and battle other pets in pvp style, all joke aside I don't think they would change anything about paragon, I would like to see a necro, paly or druid class added.

Exactly this.
The Paragon system is fantastic, and im having an absolute blast perfecting my broken as all heck "Highlander" Barb build ;p. (I cannot seem to die....)
I just find that the Paragon levels are there for the Botters since it rewards them more.
And how could they reward actual players over botters? It's not possible. Unless you think they should be doing more to get rid of bots and are presuming that a big show of bot banning would have been more worthwhile than a content patch.

I will rephrase the question a third time because apparently no one understand that I'm not talking about right now, I'm talking about expansion time. What positive do you see in long term from this system. The system right now is fun and gives a goal, but this system can also potentially push away new players.

I'm willing to take a stab at articulating the argument that you haven't actually gotten around to making yet:
If a new expansion adds both new zones (highly likely) and allows existing players to play through those zones with the full effect of their paragon levels (we have no idea if this will be the case), then those players will get better loot and more money that new players who jump into those zones with no paragon levels at all.
So what? New content will be new for a few hours before we all end up exactly where we are today... farming top-tier content for loot and XP, with a huge spread of paragon levels, the absence of which can be made up for with either DPS gear or MF gear depending on what your priorities are.
And how could they reward actual players over botters? It's not possible. Unless you think they should be doing more to get rid of bots and are presuming that a big show of bot banning would have been more worthwhile than a content patch.
Award Paragon Levels for achievements rather than XP. Let's see a bot blowing up 50 mobs in one Harvester explosion.
So I was thinking long term for this game. What do these paragon levels actually mean for the future of Diablo. When the expansion pack hits and the level caps raises. What will happen to these Paragon levels?
In my opinion, these paragon level is a temporary solution to bring back players into the Diablo 3 world. This was one of those bandage solution to a wound that needed stitches. If we think long term the paragon will either get wiped and everyone will rage during the expansion pack transition. Or they will persist and loot tables for the expansion will be changed to accommodate the 300% magic find as base. I actually can not think of anything positive that will come from these paragon level in the future. This was an half assed idea that they took from kripparrian. It was a good short term idea, but horrible long term idea.
So what do you guys think?
You assume the level cap will raise, your argument is based on an assumption that may or may not even happen.
D2 LOD did not raise level cap. It added character classes, content, and 2 new items types (runes and charms). What makes you think that an expansion for D3 is going to increase levels? There is tons of other stuff they can do besides increasing level cap.

It's also non alt friendly, by alt I mean your other characters, it forces you to play one character till p100. But it's only one character that would benefit from it. Therefore discouraging you to play your other characters, because they don't have the benefits your lvl 100 paragon character has. I feel that it's a good start, the exp needed per level needs to be decreased in future patches. I understand that there are many ways to look it, but right now it's still raw, there can be hot fixes or patches to correct design flaws, and stuff.
I will be interested to see how they handle it in PVP, I was sort of expecting your PL to not count for PVP but Blizzard has a history of trying to keep PVE and PVP identical even when that causes massive problems so we'll have to wait and see

It is amazing.
I hope they do more with it like EQ did and let you get
passive runspeed
passive crit
cirt dmg
resource regen
etc

I really wanted to love this game but the game is just boring.
Looks like D3 is not for me.
+1

They even said that they were not planning on raising the lvl cap in future expansions.
This was pre launch though, so that may have changed.
