Seriously, it just goes to show the people still working on D3 have no clue what they are doing.
Besides still discussing no brainers they are doing things that make no sense.
1.)Even though he loves PvP, Travis hopes Diablo 3 doesn't go down the eSport road, because when you focus on that type of PvP content you’ll have diminished results in the PvE part. Diablo 3 is meant to be a PvE game.
WRONG. If you love PVP you would simply go down the e SPORT road and balance the PVP aspect differently then PVM. They clearly have the wrong people for the job. Also the statement of what Diablo is supposed to be is wrong.
2.)There are talks about making Paragon levels account-wide, so that you don't feel like you're losing experience while playing your Paragon 100 character. Also potentially adding customization like stat allocation to it
Grrrreaat. Cater to more "now now now" kiddies.. Because you know how well that works so far for D3.
OK, then we need another leveling system please.. Since you seem to have forgot the point of the Paragon system that was placed in the game in the 1st place.
Hey, remember when D3 only went up to lvl 60 and felt pointless.... Good job with that.
3.) Josh tries to play a variety of games besides Diablo 3, like other ARPGs and even some Call of Duty in his spare time.
Also the statement of what Diablo is supposed to be is wrong.
Nope, they are the creators of Diablo and they tell you what they think Diablo is supposed to be. It can never be wrong. It just doesn't match with what you think it's supposed to be.
Seriously, if all you have to contribute here is hatred against every single word and action of the Diablo 3 team, you would do everyone (us and yourself) a huge favor if you move on and spend your time on some other game that you actually enjoy playing rather than trying to make everyone's life a bit more miserable.

I do enjoy playing the game. Im allowed to be upset by game devs who keep promising great things and fail to deliver constantly and make excuses.
BTW, stop telling me what to do. Im not breaking any rules and you are not a mod. Also, they are NOT the creators of Diablo. They where the replacements who still seem lost at what should be done.

Oooh, now I see the problem...
Wow you're small minded. So you want game developers to never actually play games? Because that makes sense right?
You realize 'balancing pvp' is probably harder than itemization. And to what you just suggested; You're telling me now you want TWO sets of skills per class? One for pvp and one for pve? That's ridiculous just on it's face value.
And finally, you're really whining that they are thinking of making paragon levels account wide? That would be an awesome change! Playing my plvl 100 barb isn't as fun, because I feel like I'm wasting time playing him now. This change, if implemented, doesn't actually effect YOU at all, and instead makes a lot of players happy. BUT, you're an 'elitist' that thinks not only that everyone should play how you play, but that everyone who isn't is wrong.
So again, your close minded, and kind of a baby since you bring up zero valid points, and your arguments boil down to "omg a casual player might like this change", and "wtf it's not exactly how I would play? FIRE THE DEVS!".
Seriously, it just goes to show the people still working on D3 have no clue what they are doing.

Im closed minded... Ok. I guess if i hire someone to build me a pool with a deck, after a year theres just a tub with trees stacked up i should just be happy about it? Well, i guess i could see an open minded person enoying that..
I would prefer to not get into how easy it would be to make pvp better. Let alone how pointless it is for a paragon wide account when it was given as something 'to do'. As if the only thing that matters in D3 is how much gold/drops you can farm as fast as possible. Bleh.
If thats what the game is, then might as well admit it so I can stop expecting anything else.
I think Acc-wide Paragon Lvls would be a good idea actually. As it is now, you reach plvl 100 and quit or go another class. Wasn't the point of it to have max MF without any MF on gear? I'd like to have all 5 classes of the same paragon lvl at all times, so I can mix and play whatever I feel like atm.
I thought it was to make up for the problem of having nothing to do after you hit lvl 60. And instead of having no actual point to lvl because 'no skills'. They added paragon lvls to give bonus mf/gold and the stats.
They could make paragonlevels accountwide and so you can spend levels on permanent passive effects or something. Buying 1 point for 10 levels or so. Then you have to decide if you wanna keep the high MF and sacrifice plvl 100-90 or level a char with low mf 0-10.
It still makes no sense to have account wide paragon even if they did what you're talking about. Lvls should not tie into an account, thats the whole point of leveling a character not an account. To even sit there and think its a great idea is pretty weird to me.
But the thing for me is, WHY do they even care about paragon lvls? When asked about pvp they still, basically say nothing yet give an excuse as to why they won't try to make it great. Because, " focus on that type of PvP content you’ll have diminished results in the PvE part" What is seriously up with these game devs? Sounds like more and exuse to not do anything.
Maybe im wrong. But now they seem to be tugging people along to keep them interested in the consoles and later xpacs. Im seriously done expecting them to anything amazing. These devs keep talking, keep disucssing and are yet so oblivious and slow to actually do anything. Even simple questions are as if you're dealing the CIA.
You know what I'm sick of? The devs saying that the game is about pwning monsters and slaying demons from hell... It's all about the player feeling powerful, and your items make you better? Right?...... WRONG. So their going to nerf the builds that own shit, archon, WotB... GREAT Lets have people spend months and months of time figuring this shit out so that we can finally slay some monsters like we used to in D2, only to have them come and fuck it up again. Its bullshit... According to the devs the game is about loot and demon slaying... Alright... So it's not about longevity... Whatever you say... but leave the the fucking shit alone for fucks sake, rather than trying your best to shit on everything good your god damn player base makes out of the game......... /endrant
As long as this focuses on discussing the interview and its points, I will leave it open for discussion.
The moment this becomes a back and forth with "they should obviously just do THIS because it's the best for everyone" or the good old "D2 or PoE have this better, why not just change the whole fucking game to add that/bring that back?", I'm shutting it down.
Why? Because we've seen that a thousand times already. So focus on discussing the interview and the points raised in it in particular.
1) I think they're right in prioritizing PvE over PvP. I agree with how Diablo is primarily a PvE franchise.
That said I can't forget how awesome PvP was at Blizzcon and would love if they just did something with it (instead of nothing).
2) Going from Paragon 1 to 100 can take, in a best case scenario (Hellfire, Leorics, group farming one-shotting everything on MP 5-6, moving and killing as efficiently as possible) 100-120 hours. I don't see myself getting to 100 Paragon on my Wizard (highest character on my account) in less than 200+ hours, let alone my other 5+ characters that I love playing.
So to me that's a very good change.
No I don't think it would "cater to casual players" because casual players don't play a game for 200~ hours at effiecient standards. D3 is not a MMORPG that must have 1k+ hours of grinding to have people achieve something.
The way things are set right now really makes people regret playing any other characters other than their "main" (another MMORPG fundamental, of having a main and only playing it).
3) That's not a problem at all. Being a versatile and passionate gamer is actually a very good thing in my eyes.
The fact that he isn't just another tunnel visioned CoD hater that claims "nothing changes, EVERY YEAR CoD IS THE SAME!!!!" is already a huge plus in my book.
I think you're making too much of this. I have no issue with any of his statements.
Bear in mind, they can't please everyone. Their best bet is to appease the core fans on a basis of what made Diablo 2 so popular.
are they even trying?
Well....you tell me? Have you played much since the first few months?
If so, I'm sure you'll note the sweeping changes that have taken place, all free of charge (as they most certainly should've been).
Diablo 3 has grown quite a bit in the last year. Still far from where it needs to be, but greatness takes time and in this age of instant gratification, time isn't on the side of Blizzard. I too have been pissed, I mean pissed that itemization has gone stagnant and rotted itself since 1.04 (a minimal item improvement seen a year ago now).
In the end, so long as they get it right, 2014 should witness the rise of Diablo 3 that we all wanted in 2012.
You know what I'm sick of? The devs saying that the game is about pwning monsters and slaying demons from hell... It's all about the player feeling powerful, and your items make you better? Yeah... I was super drunk when I posted that. I guess my true feelings really come out when I've been drinking though.
Also, thanks for the sweet swear / punctuation count.
1.) Do people actually really really want Diablo 3 PvP to be an eSport?. First of all Blizzard do a horrible job of promoting WoW arena as an eSport. They do a good job with Starcraft II though because well it's a super popular eSport. However after seeing brawling, even though it isn't the game mode they promised us, is still a preview of what Diablo III pvp would look like. Which is purely unbalanced crap just for the lawls. The diehard pvp community in this game is just so small that efforts to make Diablo III an eSport at this point are laughable. Maybe after 2-3 years of a real pvp mode we could analyze it's potential further.
2.) I'm not a fan of this unless they bring back lvl 99 cap with an equivalent grind. Paragon was supposed to be that grind and real talk it's nowhere near as brutal as it was before patch 1.0.8. After this interview I have lost all desire to play any other heroes. I already have a paragon 100 and spending time on other heroes feels like a waste of time at this point with the potential change. I don't think this system is something you can just make account wide. It should have launched account wide, or stay the way it is. The perks are fine but should apply to each character. I'm not sure how this increases replay value.
3.) This is a stupid point. It decreases the legitimacy of your first two arguments.

1.) Sure, why not? Diablo 3 pvp could be split into 'Bring you own items' and a more balanced white item style of pvp. The brawling they gave us is nothing more then a small map with no options, no balance and no effort what so ever. Seems to me its being handled by people who have no clue what they are doing or are simply not doing anything at all.
D3 pvp could have been huge with a little effort. The reason its not is because blizzard barely made an effort and brawling is proof of that.
2.) Account wide paragon goes to show they are catering to the wrong players. I have nothing else to say about this but its sad. I've seen the posts by these people and I detest these players. They simply don't get the point of leveling. They only care about being efficient. They want they game as simple and pointless as possible because they only care about farming as fast as possible and that's it. Honestly, im not looking forward to having this, I at least want an option to NOT have this account bound. Unless they add some sort of other leveling system. I don't care about these people who keep complaining about not playing ALTS? What the hell is an ALT? As if theres no point to play the game now because the poor guy isn't p 100.
These same players want mp10 nerfed into mp0. Just because they want to face roll everything with higher mf. They won't stop. Give them choice, they only choose the easy way and then complain about anything difficult or time consuming.
3.) Well, he says he plays other ARPG yet they choose to put in less? Makes no sense. Then the part of COD. No offense but anyone who plays COD to me has poor taste in games.
