Agree with the OP, which is why I sold all of my gear in RMAH today and am not coming back. As a person who played Diablo 2 for 5 straight years (from release through the LOD ladder resets and patches) without complaining a single time, and who killed Hell Diablo as a naked Sorceress (that requires at least a fair amount of skill), I can honestly say the skillcap is nearly non-existant in Diablo 3. DIablo 3 is littler more than money and time sink, one that completely excludes skill. All of these 'firsts' are by people who exploited game mechanics (see goblin farming/resplendent chests, life on kill/hydra, force armor invincibility, infinite smokescreen, Monk invincibility, etc), or had a Wizard/DH clear content for them in advance. Those achievements weren't earned by a longshot.
Currently, those who are actually clearing A4 are those who either also exploited the game enough to become part of the 5% or less of people rich enough to buy the ilvl63 gear, or those who are AH masters. Those of us who played the game as it was designed to be played, cannot do such things as farming A1-A2 is completely non-profitable, as the richest players control the market entirely, and inflate the gold prices accordingly. This is why nerfing/patching all previous exploits in the game only further increases the divide between the rich and poor in this game (pretty much the same as reality). There is no way to fix this game now but an expansion pack that wipes the entire market, as the current gold market is completely ruined. If you're not at least at 10m gold right now, there is no way to progress. Further attempts at controlling item drops/item farming rates merely decreases the overall fun in a game already lacking in it.
Telling someone to stop doing something that is not fun for them is 100% rational and sane.
It is.
yet,
I still think people are missing the whole point.
The ones saying that OP should just stop playing something he simply does not have fun with is solely based on the fact that they believe this post is nothing but QQ. I still think there's a deeper point to be drawn from all of this close-to-nonsense in that the game is actually for many people feeling less and less fun to play. While this is pure logic in itself (meaning that repeating routines in a straight forward manner will eventually situate people at a point of which the routine becomes obnoxious in itself) for a game that is so routinely grind-dependant, quite many people are feeling the game losing too much of its fun factor solely due to game-changes.
Edit: my spelling is awful today...
My spelling is awful all the time... I <3 spell check. I do get what you saying, I promise. It's not a very straightforward thing to try and dissect though. A lot of variables are involved with something like this. Was the person having fun before the patch? Did the person ever have fun with D3? Did they play D2? Did they play other AARPG's? What did they like about those others that they don't like now? I could go on but I am sure you get my gist. How much time do you really want to spend analyzing why something is not fun when the easy thing to do is simply go do something else fun. Maybe during the break you will have an epiphany or, as most people do, nostalgia will kick in and you can come back. For me, games are a hobby. I get maybe an hour a night to do Diablo. At any point when it stops being fun I am not going to sit down and try and analyze why. I am not going to make a post on any forums telling people I am done and here is why. I am just going to move on to something else. For me, that's just makes sense.
And the reason I do it is 'cause I think people should think of the bigger picture instead of focusing on rage coming from a single person - and I must simply admit I find it hilarious that so many people react so easily to rage.
Pack mentality my anonymous 'friend'. One of my favorite lines from the original MIB movie applies all to well to the current state of the internet." A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it"

My current weapon was upgraded from a drop on Sunday (i63 1h 867dps +str +crit dam), my shield a couple days before (i61 Hallowed Set +60 res, +str +vit +block%), my Ammy on Monday (i62 rare, +50 res all +str + vit), my Belt the day after (i62 rare, +res +str +vit), and last night a i61 Helm (legendary, Command with MF + slot + Str + Block%).

And for me games are mind-breakers that help me distinct between my everyday work having largely abstract bases. I actually don't primarily play games to sit down and have fun, I play them mostly to restart my brain - so to speak.
I wouldn't dare to say that I am trying to analyze such. I am simply pointing out a trend that seems obvious to me after having read through forums once in a while. And the reason I do it is 'cause I think people should think of the bigger picture instead of focusing on rage coming from a single person - and I must simply admit I find it hilarious that so many people react so easily to rage.
In my case, I am not reacting with rage, I tend to react to people who confuse inability to manage complex games systems with them being bad systems or broken. In the case of your post specifically, I responded to your invalid correlation of players being bored and players quitting over class changes being significant in regards to leaving a game if you don't like it. Players not enjoying the game should quit, regardless of the reason. But trying to say "well, they were bored, but still playing until there was one more nail in the coffin" is valid in and of itself, but just obfuscating the point. Those people who were bored should have left too, since it is clear they already weren't having fun, instead of just doing their time.
In other words - your point that the game has issues which will drive people away is valid. Your point that repetition is boring is valid. Your point that for some people who were already bored, nerfs to their chosen cheesy gameplay mechanic of choice is valid. And is valid for everyone in every game, and every pursuit, not specifically to D3. All of which has nothing to do with not continuing to do something you do not enjoy (although working doesn't give you much choice lol). I agree with your point in general, but it doesn't really have anything to do with this post, or the specific comment you quoted.
And if I misread if you linked them, I apologize. But the fact still stands, that regardless of how they arrived at their unhappiness with the game, if they are unhappy, they should leave. And it would be nice if people would stop assuming that because some small percentage of vocal players do not like a game means the game is significantly flawed too.

Those of us who played the game as it was designed to be played, cannot do such things as farming A1-A2 is completely non-profitable, as the richest players control the market entirely, and inflate the gold prices accordingly.
I know its a minor detail in your argument, but this is something people bring up a lot that irks me. Inflation means that the things you sell on the AH are worth more, too.
If you're going to gear up through the AH, you need to make money through the AH. You don't need to be an AH master to do that, but you do need to learn how to recognize the 250k+ items that drop in A1. Yellow jewelry, stat/vit/resist gear, stuff with IAS (maybe crit instead after the patch), etc.

His point is, that not everyone wants to rely entirely on AH gear. Some of us would like to rely on drops for upgrades and occasionally check the AH when we're feeling lazy or frustrated from lots of drops we didn't like. i don't mind if others use the AH for that, but i'd like the option of being just as successful by playing the game as I can be from playing the stock market.

You can, especially now. Continuing to say that the AH is required to progress does not make it true. The myth that the AH is "required to play" is basically viral at this point. RNG is RNG and no two people are going to have the same experience. Combine that with the fact that people are lazy and want the path of least resistance and we, as in the community, have now created this false truth that we need the AH. You don't though. The real truth is that you don't want to spend days/weeks/months looking for items. You want them to drop with the same ease as searching in the AH but without having to spend gold. Obviously the items drop, the AH has tons of great gear. Saying that all loot is crap, or nothing good drops, without further qualifying that statement with something like, today, or for me, is simply a lie.

D3: another game where you just get gear and get better. i could get my 3 year old cousin to log on my wizard and clear inferno, my skill is meaningless.
The Diablo series defined a genre where obtaining gear was the primary point. If you haven't played a Diablo game before, and you don't like it, this genre isn't for you. If you played D2, it required no more skill than D3 does.
Skill in every game is different, and subjective. Sadly for you, pure skill-based games don't sell well. Almost every game is balanced by gear and ability choices and other game systems to help balance the play-field for a wider audience. In D3, the skill is in understanding what gear is best for you, understanding how different gear improves different skills/spec, knowledge of monsters and the best ways to fight different combinations of affixes.
But most good games also have a mechanism for extending the life of a game - in Diablo, it is the gear grind, and in D3, Inferno difficulty. Diablo games have always been about (1) smashing monsters, and (2) farming gear. So yes, in Diablo, you get gear and get better. You haven't stated a weakness of the game, or made such a driving negative point that everyone will leave - you just stated the defining point of the series.
And I would *LOVE* to have you link a video of a 3 y/o clearing Inferno, especially on a wizard. And on how long you go back to farm nightmare/Hell for more gold after. Fact is, even with the gear, unskilled play = repair bills.
Your issue isn't unskilled play, it is that you don't like that game, or the skills it requires, and your ego won't let you step away without making it about the game instead of you.
WizArt - just like D2. Unless you expect it to be like WoW. Either way, you expected something from the game that is was not. There is a huge amount of genre-appropriate content - you just don't like farming
Gave up on D3 today and put all my gear up for RMAH. Maybe I will come back when the first expansion hits. Currently the game is boring, hollow, lacks any sort of endgame content and is just all around forgettable.

Well... bye.
He'll be back. He has to check on his auctions, right?
Whelp, read the first 2 lines of the OP's message; Something about being sick and tired of farming act 1, and gettin his ass kicked in act 2. Then I stopped reading.
There's many, many people able to farm act 2 +. Learn to actually play your class (this isn't D2), and if you don't like farming, find another game.

A level headed, reasonable and well spoken Diablo 3 forum user?

You are absolutely correct, but the kids have their minds made up that you must use the AH. There's no convincing them otherwise. The truth is that they want full sets of ilvl 63 in a single evening and not put in the time for the rare stuff. Instant gratification is becoming a popular phrase around these parts..
yeah well, i guess your "LEET" fps/rts skills dont transfer to an RPG.. imagine that! stop playing and give us all relief from your stupidity
also.. my wd has 700 res all 4k armor and 25k dps without buying anything from the RMAH and ive spent less then 3million total on the gold one.. pretty sure the problem is whats in front of the screen, not on it.
I laugh at you for thinking diablo3 needs skills to be played, or any rpg for that matter. My fucking 9 years old cousin plays D3 and while he's not in inferno mode yet he finished the game alone up to izual on hell mode by never changing his spells in his hot bar since he's lvl 45. But he has good gear because he plays this thing 20/24 7/7 so he can manage without doing much. Yeah D3 is for the elite games alright. -sigh-
The problem with your childish mentality is that you're simply wrong...
A game that relies heavily on gear does not equate to not requiring skill, just as a game that relies heavily on skill (and has gear that affects performance) does not equate to not requiring gear (though less so).
There is balance, and trade offs... Skilled players need less gear, and geared players need less skill... Just like every other game (again, that has performance enhancing stats, including that on gear)...
My opinion is that pre-1.0.3, D3 required more gear to skill ratio, and now it's balancing out... I'm finding Inferno easy (relative to pre-1.0.3) because I know where not to stand... Others are finding it easy because they already had very good gear (for whatever act they were stuck on), and now they can continue to stand in shit, but not die quickly.
I'm sick and tired of farming act 1 for shitty loot. I try to go in act 2 but I get the shit kicked out of me. I do better since the difficulty has been reduced, but i still die dozens of time and now it costs me around 25k every 30 minutes to repair my shit. HOW THE FUCK DO THEY WANT US TO PROGRESS IF WE CAN'T EARN GOLD AND IF THE GEAR WE NEED ONLY DROPS 2 ACTS LATER ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I wish I could post all my stuff for you to see what i'm dealing with. While it's not the best stuff around, i think it's alright, makes me handle act 1 with ease. But forget about act 2, and I don't even want to think about what kind of gear you need for act 3-4.
I play smart, i evade and dodge (or at least try to with the shitty hit detection that we got in this game) I use spells that will slow enemies, hex them (im a WD) and try to have a good combo of dps and support spells, all that to say that I don't think it's because I suck at microying that i'm doing so poorly in act 2. I have 32k life, 3.6k amor and 300 res and 19k DPS.
I am this close on dropping this game. Can't find the gear i need to progress, don't have the gold to buy the 30,000,000 gold items on AH, this just sux right now. Looks like 10 years is not enough to make a game, way to go fucking blizzard...
I have the same issue. I just managed to get act 1 under control doing butcher runs and wandering into act 2, now my dps is set back 25%, my NT spell is next to worthless and I tried this evening to do some SK runs instead of now 'too-much-effort' butcher runs. I have better things to do then to gear up to where I was. Damn Blizzard.
So you used to like the game when you were OP, but now dislike the game because you used a spec that was borderline exploitative, and allowed many DH's to stack DPS while ignoring all avoidance. Using a spec that has no skill, then being forced to learn some sounds like Blizzards fault all the way /sarcasm.
Have you ever considered that you might just not be that good?
No I did not for I am awesome at pretty much any video games that comes out that I put the smallest effort in it. I beat all my games on the hardest settings within days, have a shit load of platinum trophies if you have any idea what those are, always finish in top 3 in matches in online FPS BF3/cod, was ranked top 20 in warcraft 3 on azeroth and im passing. With that said, I have nothing to prove to you so, yeah w/e. And since when this game is hard, give me the gear and i will rape through everything. There was this Barb on act 2 with crazy gear, all he was using was cleave, i didnt see him use any spells besides berserker and volcano, so please, don't come here and tell me you need skills to play this game a 10 years old could play.
This made me laugh so hard. Get a life bro. Just a fucking game for god's sake!

So because you are either a poor player, have poor internet, or are too stupid to properly gear your character you are having less fun? Sounds about right. Your a WD in Inferno with 19k damage trying to do A2, that speaks volumes.

The real truth is that you don't want to spend days/weeks/months looking for items. You want them to drop with the same ease as searching in the AH but without having to spend gold. Obviously the items drop, the AH has tons of great gear. Saying that all loot is crap, or nothing good drops, without further qualifying that statement with something like, today, or for me, is simply a lie.
p.s this is a general reply and not specified to anyone in particular. I quoted since it directly related to the context of the conversation.
Well... bye.
He'll be back. He has to check on his auctions, right?
There's many, many people able to farm act 2 +. Learn to actually play your class (this isn't D2), and if you don't like farming, find another game.
Oh, I like you......
A level headed, reasonable and well spoken Diablo 3 forum user?
Your a rare one arent you?
Like non duped SoJ rare.
You are absolutely correct, but the kids have their minds made up that you must use the AH. There's no convincing them otherwise. The truth is that they want full sets of ilvl 63 in a single evening and not put in the time for the rare stuff. Instant gratification is becoming a popular phrase around these parts..

STOP! HAVING! FUN! You and your kind are ruining everything
