Just because you can reroll skills doesn't mean you wont have multiple characters of the same class. I personally think I will have a few different wizards. One will be my main item finder, one my pvper and one to experiment with. Could I do that all with one character? Ya sure I could, but I would need several sets of gear and then have to remember exactly what build I used for what and it would begin to become very time consuming and stressful. Instead I could quickly log out and swap chars to suit my specific need and not have to waste time altering and possibly forgetting something.
Just my 2 cents... And I think a lot of people would agree it will be easier to have 2 characters to quickly swap between than to completely change one character every time you want to do something new.
WTH no need for re-rolling cause you can basically have every build has a lot to do with NO consequences learn to read damnit.
You don't like it play HC? Guess what you can't HC from the get-go which is another stupid decision sadly.
OMFG not Diablo 2.5!!!! Yes cause picking one spell and saving 30 skill points to pick the last spell in the tree is SO amazing for consequences. I have no idea how to play D2 oh look up a build and copy, yup those were some hard earned choices. Oh Baal runs till I'm level 80 in one hour yup so amazing so hard and rewarding. Seriously dude don’t buy the game and go away.

I can handle critics, the problem is you have 193 posts this isn't Diablo 2.5 gets old. Beating a dead beaten dead beaten beaten beaten dead horse 193 times just gets old... beaten dead horse. I honestly think you can’t handle critics, so my second half assed point has a flaw with in the first few months the same applies to D3 nobody has an idea what will work. What about my other two points?

wait....... did odin seriously start the argument of world of diablo for the upteenth time?
odin instead of being your usual tool self and arguing in vein over things you know nothing about. you should just go look up old threads and re-read them instead of giving everyone an extra laugh at you for being so blind. why do u think u have 1 star and 1 rep after 200 posts?
you are the EXTREME minority in believing D3 is like WoW. everytime a thread starts about it here or on the main forum, 95% of the posts are in disagreement. go find one of the few people who agrees and just send them a PM so u can troll each other because no one here agrees

Five months or even more cause I've never been a big ladder player or item-farmer, just started Diablo 2 did some leveling and playing around with builds and LAN parties on weekends.

Mephisto, Diablo and Baal-runs were fun for me rather farm a boss instead of playing the whole act again you know?
Saving talent-points? Well whats so hard about if none of the skills are worth it, just wait till you can get the better one.
I really don't understand this whole "Diablo 2 was sooo hardcore and that wouldn't work nowadays" D2 was a freaking easy game hence why you think they've called it Action-RPG?
The game is called Diablo for a reason so why not make a game for those that love Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 instead of World of Diablocraft? I mean if you want to make a game for a new audience just create it but god forbid naming it Diablo. People do have some expectations if you use such a well known franchise.
Farming bosses was fun but at the same time... ugh just got boring so quickly. I resorted to clearing act 5 for exp because it wasn't as mind numbingly painful.
That's kind of my point why have a system that you don't want to ever invest points into (I think it's fair to assume 90% of the moves in D3 are useful). I hated the game till level 30, basically rely on one crappy move and then suddenly become OP till hell mode. Granted they fixed this with the synergies and that made the game friggen epic, it allowed for more viable builds, but customization was still stunted as most classes never needed or used any the lower tier abilities. If they removed +skill gear it would have been much better for a decision making aspect.
D2 drastically changed from D1 and people cried a lot about small differences but it ended up being a great game and hailed a good successor to D2 (also note it drew in a lot more new gamers). D1 was hardcore, D2 was not (hence HC mode).
Someone actually made a neat post showing similar moves between Diablo and WoW; consequently Wow got most of its moves from the Diablo series. We all have expectations but they are different which then causes displeasure at some point for someone After trying the Beta I think it's a great game, has a Diablo flavour but it doesn't feel like Diablo... but when you have entire different dev team it's kind of hard to keep that same approach. I also hate to say/admit it but me (possibly you) are a fading demographic, we started the huge video game rush and grew up with it, many people in our age brackets don't have the time for games like we used to. It's proven that money is with the younger generation; look at the crap that put out these days. The industry is changing, maybe not for the better (I sound like an old man) but we have to accept this would have happened at some point.
My overall point is I think it's going to be a great game, will it last 10 years... likely not but it's hard to tell until the release date. Is it a Diablo game... yes and no, it’s definitely different but IMHO D2 is drastically different than D1.

Now this is just my opinion... but sure, I can see how being able to respec means not having to make 5 different paladin builds and that means low level items, and magic find runs for re-making characters is now lacking in desirablitiy, i get all this I really do.
I just see it this way, now I can connect more to my characters, focus on them more, instead of them being dispensable for a 'better build'. They are now actual characters, that you can live long, and prosper with. The characters themselves beomce less despensable at the cost of your skills being despensable. However, there is too a downside to that, less choices, less mistakes, etc.... However a blizzard interview once said that even their alpha team felt it was a difficult choice to decide the set of 7 skills to go with. And yes, I know you can swap them out easy enough but then it comes down to this:
You can now play HOW YOU WANT! Want to pick a skill and NEVER change it, then dont, want to only change your runes, then play that way. Want to see what you like, pick your skills then set in stone.... then make another wizard with a different build, go right ahead, play as you please. From only needing to make one character and chaging it to suit your need to having things set in stone and everything in between, blizzard did this right, they made the choice YOURS!
Now how does this affect the joy of getting items and starting new characters....if you like to do that, do it, if you find joy in finding new items to build a new character then set your skills in stone and focus on new charactes, if you prefer to only have one of each character than do that and... here comes the kicker...
those low lvl uniques don't become useless, with the AUCTION HOUSE.... there is always a purpose.... maybe instead of doing runs to get gear for your other or new characters, now you make money off it, increase what you need, etc... etc...
However you play, I only see D3 as one thing: more freedom, more control, more fucos on your characters, to pelase more people, have more fun, make it a challenge if you want, or don't, do this, or that, it's up to you.
I'm one of the people who won't be respeccing a lot. Minor tweaks, for sure, but my build is something I'm aiming for in advance. I'll reroll characters frequently.
Also, does no one have friends they want to progress through all the difficulty with? I can see myself making a bunch of characters just to go along with another friend or group of friends at the same rate.

I think everything you are doing over and over again will get boring at some point. I did the boss runs cause felt bosses are more challenging than your normal/hero mob also part of it was the fact, that I didn't like some things in every act. Take act 3 for example great dungeons but horrible limited world-design, act 2 was way better in that regard.
Well it really depended on your class but I agree synergy was a great addition it made playing around with builds so much better and added some sort of depth. D1 was really different main problem being the gimped mage but I liked the "dungeon crawling" approach and in terms of atmosphere it was better from my pov. Never forget the butcher room playing at midnight just great.
You have point with the new dev approach and thats the really sad thing. Blizzard closed Blizzard Nord and since then they are having a hard time getting the same quality into their games. I also read some guys from the World of Warcraft dev team are working on Diablo 3 so that would explain some of the questionable decisions made by Wilson and his team.
Sadly the great era of deep challenging games seems to be over and we may sound like old-men but even nowadays I'm playing very old games on the NES cause they had some special hard to describe
Nobody care for your argument anymore dude.
Too much rage and disagreeing with everything made it pointless.
Also until we can see all the metagames that develop we will have no idea of worth -
for example
If a whole culture of level 20 PVP starts - and it is a twink culture - all of a sudden there will be a demand for your level 20 dueler and a reason to farm and buy gear for them
we can never tell how the economy will act - only the player base and time will tell
The ability to twink is not taken away with switchable abilities. Levels still matter. They just removed the need to know how to exactly roll your character from 1-99.
Rerolling will still be a viable, enjoyable activity.

You assume low lvl uniques will yeild materials to make higher level items. I assure you this will not happen. Dont believe me? Look at the wow crafting system. They never ask for mats you can obtain low lvl to build high end gear.
Then you need go and reread Crafting section, and find that low lvl rare\legendary reagents from salvaging can be upgraded to higher-tier reagents. And don't post meaningless info if you don't even bothered to read about d3 crafting.
I basically agree, i mean with how it is now, you really wont need more then 1 class each in SC and HC, 5 from each in total 10, i guess they counted on that i mean you can anytime change whole build, which can't be looked only to be bad, i mean everyone will now more focus on grinding higher level gear since you'll only pass game once with each class so.. I mean in Diablo 2 also you had reset of skill/stats later which is same thing, here just it's like that from start.
Even though you can get those low level drop and seem to have no use.
If I don't plan to sell them I'm a leveler in all my game best part for me is leveling new char's.
In WoW I have 3 druid tanks 2 rogues 2 mages ect..
I would just turn around and plop it on a future new alt.
The chances of you finding a Legendary item that will be desired for your class will be low since 1. you have to get the legendary to drop 2. it's got to have your classes desired stats. You're most likely to find an item that would be good for another class other then your own, so put it in the shared stash and the next class you level up might have some pretty nice gear to use in the process
Back when I played diablo 2 I loved farming for low lvl uniques so I could twink out my new characters I created to try NEW and INTERESTING builds. So If I found a unique wand on my necromancer but it was useless to me at my current level, I would be content knowing I could give it to the next necro I made( maybe a bone, poison necro). Thats just one example low lvl uniques were so cool when they were found. They seemed to have a purpose.
Odd logic you got there, just because you have the option doesn't mean you cant enjoy the same content again from start with a different build.
You could respec in Diablo 2 also, so whats the difference? you have an option to switch builds mid level but no one is forcing you to do that, you can make a choice in advance about your build and stick with it.

it seems ive figured it out. these people WANT to be forced into re rolling characters. they think if its only an option then it doesnt feel as fulfilling and that they merely wasted time releveling a class they already have. i can kind of see their point. but not many ppl liked re rolling because they HAD to. this way everyone has the choice. more choices is good

Now that runes are introduced as skills, i think there will be no free respect in inferno dificulty. On normal to hell you will experiment with skills and runes, and choose them for inferno. Because all skills are viable (depending from item that you have), you will not need to respect in inferno.I'm almost 100% sure that there will not be free respect for inferno, because having it will break the balance of the game (game will be balanced for respecting skills, so if you dont respect and use the skill most suitable for that situation, it will be much harder,or it will be balanced for not respecting, so if you respect, the game will become to easy), so there will be reasons for creating different builds for inferno of the same class.
