posted a message on [Build] Mirrorball/Archon Fire Wizard *Updated for 2.0.5*
I used to run an arcane build (unfortunately without Moonlight Ward), archon/disintegrate, going up to T3. Kadala sold me 2 Cindercoats, one of which was pretty good (int/life%/3 sockets, still haven't decided how to reroll the life%), and I already had a Mirrorball, so I decided to give it a try and gear for fire (crafted Devastator and gambled Magefist, mostly).

My sheet dps went down from 1.3M (+33% arcane) to 950M (+92% fire), and I've been able to step up to T4. But more than that, it's made for a very nice change of pace, it's pleasant to change specs every now and then.

I've tried WoF - Heat Wave, but I definitely don't enjoy the spell, so I'm sticking with Meteor. I briefly tried Molten Impact, but I dislike not being able to spam it, seems sad not to use the 29% cost reduction from the Cindercoat :)

    Anyway, thanks for the build!

Keep in mind Mirrorball will be nerfed though. Don't get too attached to the item.
Is this a theory, or something Blizzard actually commented upon?

Thanks for these builds. I might try shifting to a fire build (the meteor one looks nice to me), but I don't have any fire-specific gear yet (maybe a sub-70 magefist, but that's all.

posted a message on Mirrorball builds?
    Hey folks,

I've just found myself a Mirrorball (took around 500 blood shards spent on sources to finally get one legendary). Since I'm running disintegrate/archon and I've already got some 30% arcane damage, I just rerolled the spell damage on the source to disintegrate damage, and switched from electrocute/surge of power to magic missile/seeker.

Magic missile now hits like a truck, it's even better than disintegrate for single target damage, but I was wondering if anyone had developed some fun builds around the item that they'd care to share!

    Regards,

    Taliesyn

Thanks for this thread, you made me remember that I had one stashed away :)

148 int, 8% IAS, 50% CHD for the damage side.
76 str, 34 vit and 114 armor for the toughness part.

Like the other posters, any other belt so far has been over 10% dps loss.

posted a message on Mystic; RNG is not RNG
    Quote from Zero(pS)

So newsflash: RNG is RNG. More at 11.
While a single person's experience is certainly not enough to criticize D3's PRNG system, this does not mean the system doesn't have any issues. There are frequent issues in cryptographic systems where the PRNG is not quite as random as expected, leading to theoretical or practical attacks.

The Mystic has been sometimes nice and sometimes frustrating for me, but I don't have enough of a sample to seriously comment on that point. I still have my doubts about their PRNG seed, though, because of the way legendaries have been dropping for me and my clanmates. We often get the same legendary several times : I got two Nailbiters, 2 Wyrdwards and 3 Odyn's Son over the course of 25 legs, for instance, while a guildie got 2 pairs of Depth Diggers, 3 Blackguards and 2 or 3 Nemesis Bracers. It almost feels like there's a character- or account-specific seed.

"Feels" being the operative word, of course, as you mentioned, without extensive data, there's no way to know, but I'd be curious to know whether anyone else has a similar - or distinctly different - experience.

posted a message on Gear advice : lvl60 Haunt of Vaxo
    Greetings, fellow wizards.

I haven't yet been able to replace my lvl 60 amulet with something better, mostly because it's pretty good. Unfortunately, after 20 tries,I haven't been able to reroll the attack speed to crit damage and I'm all out of bubble gum iridescent tears. The other stats, however, are excellent for me, since I'm running archon/disintegrate, and the special ability synergizes extremely well with teleport/calamity.

Any advice? Should I keep trying to reroll it, or look for a lvl 70 ammy with +arcane dmg?

    Here's my armory : http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Taliesyn-2517/hero/3808945

Any kind of help would be much appreciated :)

I got a question. On official site in gam guide mystic open now. And if you click "view all enhanceable items" not all will be white. So we can't reroll on anything?
no I don't think that its all. look at the second screenshot here, there is an amulet in the reforging tab. and in the game guide amulets are still greyed.

can't imagine they don't allow helms, chests etc.
You have to level up the mystic to reforge some type of items.

Just looted this source, awesome build, lots of fun, thank you!

Black ice is excellent for soloing, but I tend to switch to something else when playing in a group, since you have to be the one killing the mob for black ice to proc.

I've only starting playing HC again recently, and I've kept to the lower difficulty levels. I'm paragon 17 atm, playing exclusively a sorc on expert level, so the healing from the templar isn't really necessary. Can't really comment on the scaling, as my softcore chars are (obviously) built completely differently.

Enchantress all the way. Templar healing is too irregular and occasional for me to really rely upon it, I need to be self-sufficient for healing purposes.

The Enchantress, on the other hand, brings a lot of CC to the table : between charm, confuse, and mass polymorph, there's almost always one CC active.

I'm afraid I don't have fraps. I'll see whether I can find the time to install it and fool around with it, but I'm a bit short on time these days, so that's unlikely in the near future.

posted a message on Sleet Scourge
    Greetings, fellow wizards!

Like many people, I've been drawn back by patch 2.0, and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. The new legendaries' special abilities can really shine with some builds, and I wanted to share my recent experience with you. Please note that this is in no way an original build, it is merely a variant of the Sleet Storm templates custom tailored for a specific legendary.

I switched to this build after dropping a Scourge, which is a nice 2H sword which makes very regular poison explosions around the caster.

Here is the template , and here is my character :

    - Magic Missile - Glacial Spike : can freeze a bunch of close opponents in a pinch, always useful in HC
    - Ray of Frost - Sleet Storm : the build's staple, of course
    - Teleport - Fracture : never get stuck (Calamity works well too, I'm just too used to the decoys)
    - Magic Weapon - Deflection : a dps boost and a shield generated by each hit ... can't go wrong with both offense and defense
    - Diamond Skin - Enduring Skin : another life-saver
    - Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor : can't have too much toughness in HC

    - Blur : toughness again
    - Unstable Anomaly : madness? This is haaaaardcore!
    - Astral Presence : to offset the loss from Energy Armor and gain some regen

Scourge's explosion is slightly smaller than Sleet Storm's area, and procs extremely regularly (ICD of a few seconds, 5 or 6 at most I'd say), which makes it a kind of poor man's Explosive Blast, but free. Its damage is quite significant, too, I'd say it's roughly equivalent to 3 ticks of Sleet Storm. Since I'm just standing here casting non-stop, the shield from Magic Weapon is constantly refreshed, which makes for a nice damage buffer. Finally, using a very slow weapon means that my AP goes down very, very slowly, and I can keep the aoe up for a long while.

This builds works really well for me in HC, currently paragon 12 and playing on Expert mode. I'd expect a significant scalability problem in Torment, but since I have no intention of going there for the time being, it's not a problem ^_^

Any comments or suggestions are of course welcome!

I've stopped playing Diablo 3 (waiting for loot 2.0) and I almost never watch video guides, especially long ones, but this one really deserved to be the exception.

Awesome job, Jaetch, and thank you!
