Thanks for the input. I was considering running act 3 for a bit, but it sounds more interesting to do per-act runs to hunt for both the 1.0.7 plans and the keys.
I'm rather comfortable on MP1 right now, so I'm looking forward to a looong grind, but hey, I'm not in a hurry
I'm back from an extended time away from Diablo - too many games, too little time.
I dumped a few hundred thousand gold in a cheap dps set for my sorceress, switched from the old blizzard/venom hydra build to archon, and jumped back into the game to begin my paragon leveling with rather low EHP and about 90k dps fully buffed.
Now, I'm completely broke (as in 400k gold, sold about all I had before leaving, it paid for my Mists of Pandaria digital version), and looking for a good way to farm exp/items/gold. I'm currently trying my hand at Alkaizer's route on MP1, but is there something more balanced when you're looking for items and gold as well?
Also, is the hellfire ring really worth it for a lvl 60 char, and how long (depending on luck, obviously) does it take to craft one when you're playing alone?
Got a couple questions for you high dps wizards out there :
- are you all going the crit way, or are some of you just stacking obscene amounts of int?
- how many hours of playtime have you invested in your char to reach that gear level?
Got around downing the big D yesterday, but I had to switch some gear around to improve my survivability :
- 38k hp (usually 32k)
- 25k dps (usually 34k)
- ~350-400 res all (glass cannon included, usually ~250-300)
- ~4.5k armor (with force armor)
Typical build with venom hydra and seeker MM, teleport/wormhole (much better than fracture for Diablo) and diamond skin.
This allowed me to barely survive being caged, which happened once in P1 and once in P2 (once because of server lag, once because I messed up).
I'm guessing most of you are not in Act III and IV, Archon is useless in those acts because even with huge DPS you won't melt things, especially champ packs quick enough before they get to you. Then you are toast because Archon locks out all your 'Oh Shit' abilities like Wormhole and DS.
I agree, archon is situational in act 3/4, meaning it doesn't have its place in a farming build (unless you got awesome dps, I guess).
It's still useful when you're progressing through the content for bosses like Iskatu and Rakanoth.
Archon also takes a stupidly long time to cooldown, 2 minutes, what are you guys doing, waiting 2 minutes to move further in the dungeon? Archon takes too long on CD, and requires you to stand still while lowering damage reduction. It just is not useful beyond act I/II, I haven't seen any effective archon builds yet for act III and IV, mainly because of the points I have mentioned.
Archon lasts 15 secs + 1 sec/killed mob. You should be able to kill at least 30, maybe 45 mobs. That's only 1 min of archon downtime, not 2 mins.
Of course, this means you need something else to kill mobs when archon's on CD.
Group:
It can be ok in group settings when you have a few good tanks, helps with elites & bosses, but again you have to sacrifice your survivability, one elite wanders over to you and bye bye, also typically you are better off without it because your main nuke doesn't take 2 minutes to reset. We have used it a couple times for elite farming, but honestly we find elites quicker then the CD time, so it was super inexpedient having to wait for it.
If find archon very lackluster in a group. You need to kill stuff fast to keep the skill running, and the mobs' increased HP pool doesn't help. I only take it when I wanna help friends rush contents I'm overgeared for.
That's interesting, so if you used the boosted damage rune for archon, and then stacked dynamo on top of that you would have 400% disintigrate beams or whatever it is. That's crazy high.
Not crazy high, but pretty decent
That's the build I used for Iskatu and Rakanoth Inferno, btw (obviously not with MF gear, though).
The only issue I run into is when I get a really long duration stacked up, and then run into an elite pack that I need my standard build to deal with properly, like reflects damage or something.
I've suicided myself on some reflect damage packs a couple times (note to self : check affixes before shooting). Otherwise, if you need to cancel the archon buff, just right-click on the buff icon
You don't need awesome gear to farm act 1 using archon. I'm currently progressing through act 4, and I farm act 1 with archon using half MF gear (around 25k dps, I'd say).
Dying every now and then when I'm too ambitious (or rather, too lazy to move), but usually not more than once or twice in a full run.
There's one great trick that helps, too : use arcane dynamo to get +75% damage on your archon
Well I don't really agree... I haven't seen 1 instance where I would want to take a 2h over a 1h + source.. other than yes.. cheaper?
I'd like to say I enjoy seeing big yellow numbers, but I don't have enough gear to get really big numbers
but cmon man... its not THAT expensive to get a good 1h and source... and u can just farm shit.. earn millions.... i got great gear... and i did so by just farming a little.. and playing the AH markets smartly... anyway
Well, depends on what you call "farming a little"
I have significant RL time constraints, and I just reached Inferno Siegebreaker. I'll be farming it for a few days before I start progressing again through inferno, hoping to make a bit of money there.
Also, I play on the EU servers and from what I read on here, EU prices seem to be significantly higher than US prices.
And yes.. u run out of arcane power faster with a 1h.... but you also do twice the amount of dmg in a short time than a 2h does.... ergo the fastness of it. Having high ap on crit + maximum arcane power ... solves this problem.
How do you calculate that? If a 1H+source gives 1200 dps (factoring in the source's damage) and a 2H gives 1200 dps, you're doing the same amount of damage in the same time (kiting problems notwithstanding). 2H will deplete your AP much slower for the same damage, while 1H+source, if correctly itemized, will deplete it much faster but also replenish it through +AP on crit.
100 int gives u like.... 1k more dps... which is nothing
[...]
resist all
Don't forget that int gives resist all (don't have the numbers handy, though, so can't translate 300 int to resist all).
Also, you might have awesome gear, but not all of us do, and a 3k dps increase (before force weapon/familiar) is not negligible for everyone

I'd say starting bid between 5 and 8mil, and either no buyout or a rather high buyout, like 25mil. When it's a good item, people are gonna bid.

I've stumbled upon the following quiver, and wondering how much it's worth :
- 66 str
- 112 dex
- 80 vit
- 14% attack speed
- +5% life
- 1.1% fear on hit
What would you consider a fair price?
Thanks in advance.

As a side note, I'm using the RMB to change into archon and never release the button until everything's dead, maybe that makes a difference?
[EDIT] That seems to actually be the case : only first spell cast as Archon getting the +75%. TL;DR : keep firing.
