hey, in my opinion you can never play d2 to its full potential on single player. its near impossible to get many of the items (let alone make good runewords), reach high lvls, have crazy dmg / life etc, get anni n torch and what not.

online allows you to do all of the above. It has a trading market (which you will realise alot of the online game revolves around),. lets you do co-op with friends and my fave part pvp against other players :)

I personally don't really care much if hacks stay or go in d2, i would have a couple years ago, but its so old now lol. d3 is where it will be at and thats where they better pick up there game, and im pretty sure they would have learnt alot from d2 and the way it turned out.

WC3 is pretty irrelevant here and chaos damage was included only in campaigns, wasnt it?

Anyway, I agree that people are too focused on the fact that everyone is going to pick skills from all over the skill trees now just because its possible.

Remember that there will still be lots of passives and probably other benefits that will make focusing on a particular build more appealing.

And most importantly remember that there wont be 75% completely useless skills like in D2 that will make skill picks an obvious choice for everyone. Im sure that Blizzard is working on a lot of cool and useful skills for all trees and going for a build that includes all trees will not neccesarily be better.

some good points. Just because people can now potentially pick for example 6 major skills doesn't mean they will be anymore effective or powerful than someone who just focuses on 2 major skills. If anything they will be even less effective because the person who only just focuses on 2 skills and maxed all the relavent passives may end up doing 4 times more dmg with their 2 skills compared to the person who has 6 major skills but none of them are at full potential.

Maybe Blizzard should randomly delete your characters at one point to increase replayability even further by making you have to restart everything every now and then.

haha blizz have already done that to me :(

    Quote from "Dimebog" »
Are you saying that people can't just want to replay the game because they want to, but they want to because they have to? When you can explain that logic to me, and explain how rushing is not killing replayability but respeccing is, then maybe you can make a point that doesn't sound like baseless, below-80-IQ type of qq.

I never said that people won't just "want to replay the game because they want to". Seems like you're putting words into my mouth. There is no denying however that in d2 due to having no respecs it took players a long time to builds chars, to test chars, make pvp chars etc. And to build a char really well you had to plan out all gear beforehand. Personally I got to the point in d2 that the only things that kept me interested were trying to build perfect chars, pvp and trading. And the idea of having it possible to just easily respec to me takes away one of those 3 major factors that kept me playing d2 for nearly as long as I have. I'm just a little annoyed because d2 is one of the few games that actually kept me playing for a long time, most other games I play for a month, finish it, and then get bored with it so stop playing.

man this sucks. blizz are making everything too easy. and the easier things are the less replayability imo

posted a message on Synergies a No-Show in Diablo III?
I actually liked synergies :( I liked the idea how some characters weren't fully 'built' until lvl90 etc so had to basically be entirely useless until then lol it just made it when the character was fully built that much more special. To me the best part of d2 besides pvp was making 'perfect' builds. With having to plan out prebuffing items and keeping strength items/charms in the stash to use certain prebuffing items n crap like that lol. I also liked the idea how if ppl messed up skills then that was their problem lol. When I first started I made plenty of crap builds and had to rebuild them lol. Thats just part of being a nub. Live and Learn I say lol. But of course the way blizz are making d3 sounds like it will most likely make it more user friendly and I guess more enjoyable. The only downside and i've said this on many occassions before I just hope blizz aren't making things too easy.

posted a message on Bashiok on "Forced Leveling".
this is actually a pretty tricky question. d2 had lvl restrictions, had to be over a certain lvl to do ancients etc but of course ppl found a way around this lol. both sides have positives and negatives. I guess imo i would like it to have no lvl restrictions. rushing is unavoidable imo, people will still find ways to 'rush'. it might not be as effective as it was in d2 but im sure people will soon find the best areas and best runs to gain xp on and rapid lvl up. and i got no problem with that, let people do wahtever they want. if you dont want to 'rush' or 'rapid lvl' no one is forcing you.

    Quote from "gamma11" »
there wasnt a problem with mana if u knew what the fuck you were doing when making a sorc lol... and there was even a skill towards that... warmth... even early in the game, there were an abundance of mana potions that dropped from random monsters you killed...

lol couldn't have said it better myself, especially if you were making a max energy shield sorc with at least 4k+ mana and crazy mana regeneration.

I think people are forgetting insight aswell, one of the cheapest runewords ever and it basically gave you unlimited mana.

Anyways regarding diablo3 and mana im certain blizz know what theyre doing, still it just annoys me how ppl (not on this forum :)) complain about minor issues that in the end come down to them being crap at the game. The last thing i want is d3 ending up too easy.

I seriously want a VERY difficult level. I mean, I plan on seriously comitting to my character online. I want to have the feeling that improving my character will feel worthwhile even if I manage to reach max level. If the game becomes easy, it will be boring to continue. Repetitive "boss runs" for loot becomes boring very quickly. An insane difficulty level where player teams are basically a necessity (and where rewards come thereafter) would only enhance the fun. If we can just plow through all the mobs there will ultimately be little fun.

And, yes, Diablo 2 was way too easy at all difficulty levels.

haha yep i agree fully. something beyond hell mode. like uber tristram and the organset lvl style difficulty but even harder. that would be the best :)

I still say keep immunities. in d2 there were still ways to get passed immunities, although they were generally quite expensive. the runeword infinity helped heaps, as did socketed facets and also just a merc with nice gear was easily able to take them all down for you in hell mode.
I still like my idea how in 1 player games there should be no immunities, but when more players join the game then start bringing immunities in along with making the monsters harder, more hit points etc.

Element characters were always highly powered so immunitieis added at least a negative side to it. melee chars have to get in close, dont do as much dmg, take longer and then they have attack rating to worry about. Element chars can deal out 40k dmg etc (lite sorcs) and shoot from 2 screens away with no chance of missing due to attack rating. So immunities are a good thing imo lol.

No it does not. It can't lower it enough. It lowers resists, but it can't break a cold immune.

Anyway sure if you're level 97 with items given to you everything is fine and dandy, but I'm talking about a single player playthrough. When you reach hell what level would you be? 60ish?

I always managed to run into a monster that would break gameplay. Sure I can reload and it'll be gone or I can go back and grind, but I'm still having to avoid that monster by exiting the game.

ah k, i wasn't too sure about that one.

To me diablo was always a multiplayer game. I agree with you that single player is much much harder than bnet play simply due to the shortage of items available to you and also you dont have other players helping you. i still wouldnt mind seeing immunes just perhaps they can find a way where they dont have them on single player (or 1 player bnet games), however, when playing in a game with multiple players then they can start bringing some in which will then mean that you need to actually work as a team. Just my opinion tho. I also liked the fact how on bnet with more players in the game the more harder the monsters got and better chance of drops. that was possible in single player aswell if you type in /player 8 or something, dont remember.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as its been a few years since I've played... But...

I remember blasting away and even killing cold immune monsters, it just took longer... So...

I actually never made an ice sorc so i'm not 100% positive on this but doesn't the skill Cold Mastery lower enemy cold resists resulting in breaking most cold immunes? Plus if you have facets etc that also adds to lowering the enemy resists. I remember reading somewhere (however have forgotten the actual specific numbers) that for e.g. monster #1 has 130 cold res (aka cold immune) and then once you take into account all immune lowering skills/items monster #1's cold res is now 75 and is therefore not a full immunity and can still be damaged, however, its only slight dmg and can take a while to kill him. which i think explains why you could still kill cold immunes.

Dont quote me on this tho :P like i said ive never made a cold sorc, i only ever used chars that didnt really have any trouble regarding immunities like hdins, nova infinity sorcs, psn, bone and summoner necros and smiters lol
