This is very interesting news, and it excites me a lot.

    Tristram in Act 1
    Belial in Act 2

I actually think that Tyreal might be Belial in disguise, and that... might actually be a downer for me. I thought Tyreal was the baddest dude ever, and if it turns out that I might have to kill him because he was someone else, I'm gonna be pissed off.
I feel similarly. I'm just trying to ignore most "Tyrael ends up being a bad guy" theories, whatever they may be. Tyrael is such a badass, and is definitely the highlight Diablo II's cinematics, and I just want him to stay on the same track of badassery for Diablo III.

It seems like if you said it was belial posing as Tyrael to destroy the worldstone it wouldn't only ruin Tyrael in Diablo III, but also ruin my fond memories of what i thought was him in Diablo II.

Oh well though, if they've got a good story cooking that messes with Tyrael, so be it.

I'm really curious as to what the next class is going to be though, based on the confusing hints that are set in place.

As is mentioned a lot, they have said NO guns in Diablo. So, it's not going to happen.

I'm happy, I'm kind of tired of this fad of bringing guns into fantasy games. One of the reasons I like this type of game is it's unique weapon set, guns spoils it for me.

First off, how could a mode called hardcore NOT be harder than the normal mode? That wouldn't make any sense at all...
    <snip>
I was trying to say that Hardcore was hard enough in diablo II, and doesn't need to be any harder than that.

Also, yeah, there are other exit strategies and overall I'm not too wounded by the removal of TPs, but SFJake was making it sound as though hardcore mode was too easy, and I just don't feel that was the case.

Also, say what you will about PKers, and I know I hated them, but the threat of being PKed always did enhance the rush for me.

    Cool info!

    What class did you play?
Do you know if the items that had to do with mana effected things like fury, too?

You mean its actually meaning something, now? Instant retreat from anywhere, + save game and exit at anytime instantly, never made HC very interesting to me.
Sure there were ways to get out, but surely you died, didn't you? Who doesn't. Even with those easy outs there was always a high risk of death, especially from PKers.

I don't think having an exit strategy is ever a bad thing, and I don't think it needs to be any harder to play a hardcore game

Exactly, Marius never had Diablos though. That is something that bothers me though. We do the hellforge quest and based on the video we destroy Mephistos and Diablos soulstone. In no point do we actually acquire Diablos soultone. We take mephistos when we kill him, and then we immediately go destroy it. After the hellforge quest we go and encounter diablo. But before that we never do so there is no way the character should have had it to begin with. Tyrael only gives Marius one soulstone and it is clearly baals since it is the ony that he has in the cinematic you posted. It shows Marius and he says that he never whent into hell.
Uh, I think it's just assumed that the player yanks out Diablo's soul stone and breaks it. It would be kind of anti-climactic after all to have to retrace your steps and go back to the soul forge after defeating Diablo, so they just tell you that it happened via cinematic.

Someone from the previous games? Do we play as Kashya or something?
I'm pretty sure he meant another class would be returning, like the Barbarian did.

Cool, look forward tos eeing Belial.

And I really don't think it's a stretch that Diablo will be returning. I mean, it's kind of obvious he'd be in the game, after all. Tyrael said the consequences of destroying the world stone would be unknown, and I think it's fair to assume Diablo's survival is one of those consequences.

Well, like you said I feel like the lack of stat-point customization and town portals are bad moves for Diablo too.

I'm just saying I like Diablo games for the mechanics that they have. I know every game in a series is going to change the mechanics a bit, but hopefully not too drastically. What you're proposing is a pretty huge change when you think about it, and there's no telling how it would effect the gameplay exactly. Since I have seen similar systems work out before, I'd say it would be fun, but it would differ too much from past Diablo games to truly fit in with the series.

Then again I'm from the crowd that believes Diablo and Diablo II are among the greatest games ever made, and even the slightest change in gameplay has a chance of ruining everuthing.

Im not talking about using leveling up swords and your skills as a form of leveling up your character. Just his proficiency of using those items. A character with level 10 light armor will be better at using it then a character with level 1 light armor. You level up by getting experience, not by leveling up your sword.
Yeah, still, it's a huge change in the core principals of the gameplay. I like the way Diablo does things - that's why I've spent so many hours playing them.

Mount & Blade is a game that has weapon proficiencies that increase as you use them, as well as an experience-based levelling system, which I think is kind of like what you're talking about. And I think it really works well there. The idea your saying isn't bad, it has been put to use quite well in some cases, but I'd rather Diablo stay Diablo.

Morrowind is my favorite game. I think the skill-based leveling system is superior to an experience-based levelling system.

However, I do not think this belongs in Diablo. If you're going to change the core mechanics of the game that vastly, you might as well just make a new game.

Sometimes I worry if I'll want to replay Diablo III endlessly. But, when I think about it - Blizzard hasn't released a single game that isn't incredibly replayable. They seem to only be getting better at it.

So, I'd say most assuredly - Yes!

I believe they have something like that in mind. I also don't really mind having no TPs, but having to run back to the entrance of the dungeon after exploring all of it would surely be a bummer, especially since they said dungeons will now be somewhat huge. So yeah, I think they're working on some kind of tome to teleport you back to the entrance once you reach the end of it.
There are other ways of getting out of dungeons, though, if they're designed intelligently. Many games(Oblivion especially) feature double-backs in their dungeons, so that even though you're walking back out of the dungeon, it's a different path than your way in, with more enemies. Of course, it would still be lame to fight a big baddy at the bottom of a dungeon only to go back to the beginning fighting weak stuff in a double-back. Also, perhaps more dungeons will have another exit at the end of them. I don't expect these things in all dungeons, but I do think we'll be seeing more of this than in Diablo II.

Still, this whole thing really does suck for Hardcore players. I don't think any game is tense at all if you come back after you die, so all of Blizzard's attempts to make things seem more perilous are lost on me. I just hope the game will still be playable hardcore.

Yeah, I'm upset about this too. it looks like the next class will be an archer type class, and that we won't see a knight. But, I'm tired of robes and rags, I like a guy in Armor.

Sure, the Barbarian wears armor, but it's just not the same. Diablo games have never been lacking a class that wore more western styled medieval armor, so i have to hope for a Knight class too, as unlikely as it now seems.
