Yea these screens of inv and skills is not at all like WOW....not at all....I mean this is clearly not WOW related......This has got to be the farthest thing from WOW inventory and talents...cough... uh...I mean skill system....I mean just the thought of how it can be confused for WOW is just mind boggling....
....No seriously its not....
Now that the sarcasm is out of the way, and since I don't have time to read through all these posts I'll give my opinions on most of the Diablo related news. (By the way major props to Mike Nicholson for admitting the WOW inspiration for systems) Ok first, despite the obvious similarities to WOW I have to say it does look really cool applied to a Diablo game. I'm sure alot of us are going to appreciate more freedom in inventory management cause I sure as hell will. Skill trees look alot more exciting and I have to say I like the new names for the Barbs skill sets. And thats enough for that now though I would have much more to say if I could see all of this displayed in a gameplay video. I have one question about the inv screen. What is that spot on the bottom right? That green square with the gold face, what is that?
Secondly the replacement of the shrine aspect is a good idea. I seriously thought many shrines were a waste of time after Normal difficulty (cept the gem shrine). I really like the sound of items and equipments reflecting the build of your character. I am real pumped to see how that will be applied, especially to the trading community since what I gather from this is that alot of items will be judged on personal value in a sense. Thirdly, Hurry for the UI guy and the thousand pounder (Mr. Stay Puft) !!!! Fourth, props for unique monster deaths. And finally I have to see this new fury system before I comment since we don't get to much of an impression from here. Can't wait for another gameplay vid though.
I don't know if it's just me that have been gone for a long time, or if the UI has been radically changed; But I can't help to notice that it's changed since the original screens and videos, and I just have to ask what the hell is going on with the Barbarian 'Mana'?
Stamina seem to have been removed.. or.. something.
The Barbarian doesn't have mana anymore, it's called Fury:
Bashiok: Very cool, and last but not least you?re both working on a system which is the barbarian?s fury system. So, the fury system for those that don?t know, the barbarian uses a sort of reverse mana system. It?s not using mana as it uses abilities, but it builds up as he?s fighting, so it kind of? he gets angry and he?s chopping dudes down and he gets more and more fury to use for his abilities. But that?s actually changed quite a bit, can you guys go over how UI and effects are coming together to create the new fury system?
Mike: Yeah well it?s always an, again, an iterative process right, and one of the problems we had with one of the systems we had tried out was ? it worked ? but from a peripheral vision you couldn?t see what was going on. We wanted to be very clear and very bold about what was being done, so traditionally what happens is design will come to me and we?ll talk about what are the goals we need to accomplish. And then I?ll do some mockups and then I take it over to Julian and hope he can make those mockups look far better than my mockups.
Julian: And I think where we?re at right now with it is the recognition that spending your fury is what we really want you to be doing, we want you to see it as a commodity to spend in order to gain access to more power, and that wasn?t really being communicated so clearly with the other one. So we?re trying to accomplish that goal of making it more, yeah, you know when to spend, you know what you?re spending but you don?t necessarily have to look directly at it. So effects plays a little bit of a role there, but I think we?re trying to not put effects in there just for effects? sake, but only do it when we think that it?s going to help you really read and understand what?s going on.
Mike: Yeah, before one of the problems was you would see the build up more than what you had to spend. Like you would build your fury up, and then you know ?bonged?, and you?d have an amount you could spend. But everything was sharing the same visual space and you couldn?t necessarily discern one from the other. And again from an art standpoint, sure it worked, it was ok, but it wasn?t conveying the gameplay. And gameplay is king, you?ve got to make sure that it comes across in every way.
Bashiok: Can you describe for those listening what it currently looks like?
Mike: Let's see? if I had to use a cruel comment, one that I made myself as I was making it, oh "It's the fury traffic light". Because it's three spheres stacked vertically, and no we?re not making them three different colors, but you know as I was doing it I was like oh great, it pretty much well assures us that we are not doing different colors because it will well indeed look like a traffic light. But that?s the gist of it, because when you're playing hopefully your vision is in the center of the screen, and this is going to be to your right and down below. So you need to see a very bright graphic that kind of flashes to let you know, that even if you flick your eyes down there you?ll see I've got two or three of whatever that is to spend. Really that was the goal. Hopefully Julian and his team will ramp it up, so that, because we want it to catch your eye while you?re doing it, but not be a distraction.
I don't know if it's just me that have been gone for a long time, or if the UI has been radically changed; But I can't help to notice that it's changed since the original screens and videos, and I just have to ask what the hell is going on with the Barbarian 'Mana'?
Stamina seem to have been removed.. or.. something.
The "mana" or more correctly fury has been turned to a stoplight there is a video of what it looks like when it charges up. I suggest that you actually listen to the Blizzcast or at the very least read some of it they tell you most of whats going on in the updated UI
Monsters burning to death when hit with a fire sword. Mmmm
Sorry but Diablo is fast paced action game just have them be chopped to bits. You wont be able to notice all the death animations as you just slash through mobs.
Talismans IMO have to bee keyed into the new item quality.
Like different Talismans produce different stats on a unknown item like Ancient quality or something.
Like for example you have 12 Talismans slots and there might be 30 all together and depending on the order you put them in while wearing these new item quality it will produce different stats.
Now this is a primitive example but it should be speculation. Could be the new rune word system.
But i find this background for the inventory a bit too "empty" you know.
There should be some more images or whatever on the background of the inventory i think.
I understand that your character is visible on screen.
I am a stickler for details. I like to see the texturing, the lighting and the mapping on models. Seeing a character that's an inch tall on screen doesn't allow me that opportunity. Like I said, I'm 100% okay with the inventory system the way it is now, IF the player is capable of zooming in.
Better yet, they could allow a button in the interface to open a new window where you can rotate the character to really be able to take in the visuals.
To not allow viewing the character up close, put simply, is a way for the designers to skimp on the detail.
And it IS possible to zoom in on your character, which you can even see in the first gameplay trailer. The devs talked about it on several occasions as well.
I read the interview up to the part where he states that he loves WOW.
Obviously, a guy in charge of the art is a fan of cartoons....
now you can start bashing me but I'll say what I think because i haven't really been posting anything on other threads where people argue about the new look of diablo.
Anyways, I look at the new screen shots, and its still missing that diablo feel no matter how much I want to force my self to believe that its actually the same old diablo look...
One color that sticks out the most is that ugly teal / aqua blue , thats a warcraft color that shouldnt even be in diablo. Diablo is a about dark ocean blue color , not about the warcraft 3 mana potion blue....
There are various other things that make this new diablo different from the old ones, not only color but the edges. the edges used to be sharp, 90 degree, and now everything is nice and curvy like windows vista and world of warcraft.... I notice that little gold pouch above the helmet in the inventory, and it just looks like a little hobbits bag for peanuts... WHY NOT USE an Epic DARK BROWN DIABLO COLOR for the POUCH , why make everything shiny and nice jeez...
I am sure the game will be great in terms of gameplay and all those other important factors other than graphics, but I presonally find it sad that when i look at this new game, something is constantly pissing me off, and I dont see the same old diablo without lying to myself all the time..:offtopic:

Agree with you completely. There isn't Diablo feel anymore. Everything is shiny, clear and bright opposite to first 2 games. Invisible, unseen, gritty, dirty, messy, unpredictable feel of the game's gone. I think Diablo feel is the most important thing in Diablo games not gameplay.

yea the thing is , i look at these screenshots , and although i can tell its diablo, I cant exactly figure out what da F*%%% is making it look like warcraft ... Im really not even sure anymore, is it the colour, or the edges, the size of things??, i really cant figure it out but its annoying that I can straight away tell that somethings wrong....
When i remember diablo 1, the color of potions and health globe was Deep Red, like blood, and mana was ocean deep blue. Rejuvination potions were dirty yellow, the fire from the church was dark red ( NOT freaking orange). .. . its these 16bit  colors that made the game look epic....
I even remember that warcraft 1 looked more epic and "scarry ' in some ways to what warcraft 2 and 3 moved to. I remember showing my brother warcraft 3 when it came out (he was the first generation that played wc1 and hasn't really been gaming much since), and he was like, damn wtf this looks like crap...
hmm i dont know what to say anymore. Theres not much we can do, lets just hope the gameplay will be as good as diablo 2 , and that will hopefully remove this ugly soft non epic graphic look of the new diablo..
They answered a lot of smaller and technical type questions that have been going around since they first showed the game and from what I am seeing, they are doing a very good job.
I like the skill tree setup, it has a lot of well done artwork with most of the icons being something you would never see in WoW. While it may be the setup that WoW uses, do remember that WoW's talent tree was based off of Diablo II's skill tree. If Diablo III came out before WoW and had the exact same setup, nobody would be complaining.
The ui looks very nice as well, a very simple way to make sure you can take in the artwork put into the item portraits while not having to worry about only being able to hold 4 pieces of armor/weapons, etc.
The Fury system for the Barbarian seems like a great setup, Barbarians using mana in Diablo II was probably one of the dumber aspects of the game so I fully welcome this new system.
I also like the idea of having as many different types of enemy deaths as possible. People saying they are wasting time by doing so and that you would never notice the different deaths when plowing through waves of guys.....way to go on thinking you speak for everyone that will play Diablo III....seriously...
More variety, the better. More variety = more replayability and replayability is Diablo's specialty. Just think of the fun Wizards and Witch Doctors can have with all the different magic elements resulting in different deaths.
All in all this Blizzcast, while not a barrage of new info was given about the game, put my mind to rest on plenty of things I was wondering about the game and I am happy that they revealed what they did.
One more note, the new screenshots are great and really do seem to have more of a darker atmosphere to them which is a good thing.
Everyone nitpicking on colors needs to move on. It looks great. I swear to God, people bash WoW just to bash WoW, which is both really stupid and annoying.
....No seriously its not....

The Witch Doctor says "BOO NUH MA GA!"
The Cow says "Mooooo"
Deckard Cain Says.....Toy explodes....

Just a thought. Trying to think outside the box.
That's what I said. It definitely looks darker IMO.

So you don't need to discuss that any further.

Come on, it looks good. If you want to play D2, play D2. If you want to play a newer D2, wait until the patch comes out and play that.
*to be said in the tune of a football song*
D3, whatever it may be, although it has some history, doesn't need to be the same, but a huge improvement on an old old game
