I've been browsing around, and it seems to me the paladin argument has been made to death. I get it, paladins are an overused concept. However, I do believe that being a game based on Heaven vs. Hell, and there being agents for both sides, I can't help but feel there should be some sort of warrior of the Light.
The Zakarum and kingdoms of Westmarch surely have a righteous warrior to offer? I'll go ahead and say it. I LOVE paladins. There is something in me that comes alive when I see heavy armor and holy scriptures. I care not the alignment to a specific religion or order, I just love the concept of a warrior much like any other save for the fact that he casts spells and wields holy magic.
All that being said, who's pissed there isn't a Paladin-esque class in Diablo 3? Or who's glad there isn't? State your opinions on it, and why or how you came to that conclusion. I'll try not to destroy anti-paladin remarks.:thumbsup:
I got nothin against paladins (Except there blessed hammer spell) but I honestly dont belive they would put in 2 holy classes. I belive the next class should be some sort of archer. Im not really upset the paladin is not returning but I cant wait to kill the paladin from d2 :D.

The monk is the righteous warrior here, so I don't see a paladin class coming which makes me pissed. Monks however I wouldn't put in with holy. True they are on a mission by a seeming higher power, but they make it more of a personal endeavor instead of a crusade.
I think the next class would have to be a combination of an archer, hunter, and a druid. Some sort of class that would rely heavily on ranged fighting with a beast to help it, or maybe even a class that fought hand to hand alongside its animal companion. Who knows. I'm angry the paladin isn't in this one, but I still have the barbarian and the wizard which are my two current favorites. Maybe Blizzard can still give me a class I'll like?

I don't remember the paladin crusading with anybody else either. The monk's your holy class, it's just not your typical Western Christianity class (I forget what he was based off of, I think a mix of Eastern European and something Asian).
Yes fiend, it is of Eastern Asian origins. Monks were prominently in India and China, though they did stretch out to other places, but they are most located in those regions. As for where they would be in Sanctuary, Blizzard has yet to say. Unless I've missed something.
I got this thing for holy warriors aswell, be they called Paladins, Crusaders or Knights of Good. There's always this feel about being a warrior of good, a bringer of justice and in most cases, utter death to your enemies.
Yep. Especially when you got demons and undead to kill. Maybe its just me, but who better to kill a great Demon than someone who has sworn their life to cleansing the land of demons and evil?
Another factor in choosing the Monk over say Paladin-type character is that they don't want a holy warrior defined in terms of subserviance to Heaven. I think the conclusion to D3 (or its last expansion) will see humans rising to stand on their own, independent of both angels and demons, unlike the past games where the heroes were aligned with the angels. We already got hints with Tyreal being "cast from heaven" and the whole nephalim backstory setup, and while demons will continue to be the main antagonist, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up fighting an angel at some point. Hence the "holy warrior" monk serving spirits *within* sanctuary rather than from without.
Then tell your teacher to do it for you. If he does not comply, show him your glyphed glowing book and tell him you'll Light his ass up if you don't get what you want. Activate Beacon of Light on yourself and throw a Hammer of Wrath at a desk. If he doesn't follow orders after that, then take him out. He'll get replaced by someone who knows how to respect a paladin.

I think you make a very good point here. You can tell just from the new D3 logo that there is light above, and darkness below, which I believe is foreshadowing basically what you wrote above. Being good or evil in games seams to be a popular trend lately.
Personally, I'm not too disappointed that there isn't a Paladin. I am a huge Necromancer fan myself because I like being an evil, dark character that actually fights for the light side or "heaven".
It does seam to be the trend that they are making characters that can be good or evil, but I would hope that the last class be something that looks darker than the other 4, even if it be ranged.
Who said that Heaven is good and Hell is evil?
Who said that humans are good?
In Sanctuary there's no such thing as good or evil, you just try to survive.
Heaven vs. Hell. We are in the middle. They try to use us against the other. Humans are split up. Some are in it for Heaven, some for Hell, and some are just trying to keep Humanity as their own faction without outside forces trying to take over.

I agree whole-heartedly. And maybe a glyphed glowing book at their side bound by chains.
I just died a little inside.
Do you play WoW?
No, but seems to me there are already RL paladins in training.
I am a pally tall and stout,
Here is my hammer there is my mount,
When I see a hoardie I scream and shout,
Watch me aggro and bubble out!
I couldn't remember the exact poem, so I modified it so it works.

"Well there goes Tyrael. Told you we should have killed them all."
And angels will descend from the heavens, demons will rise from the ground, and there will be the most epic battle ever imagined.
