So i open up WoW just now and it tells me my password is wrong.
I check my emails and it says i changed my password yesterday at 5pm. No, i didnt. And nobody else i know could have.
I change my password to something new, open up WoW again, log in and find my lvl 34 Tauren Druid has been deleted. In its place was a lvl 1 character named Allua. There was also another 3 characters created on other realms, all named Allua.
This was not my doing, I have never given out my account details, no i did not leave WoW running, at the time of the password change i was at home and my pc was OFF. This is clearly the work of a hacker.
So i emailed Blizzard and now all i can do is wait.
(i have never played warcraft so i dont kno the rules)
did you have friends who saw the hacker do anything? did you get an account?

"You are like a rose in a great rose field. Each rose is so beautiful to me. But if one dies... I can still look at many other roses..." God of Darkness.
That... is highly shit
What can Blizzard do now? They must have some sort of system in place for events like this considering people are paying to play their game
If you get in contact with their billing support they'll usually have you fax in some information so they can be sure that it is you thats asking them for help, and that you were/are the sole owner of the account that has been stolen / hacked into, and it will take them a week+ to start returning shit that was lost, they will return all of it or at the bare minimum most. So your character / gear are obviously assured a clean return.
Stuff like that really bites, but look on the bright side be glad that something like this happened sooner than later, i.e. you hit 70 and someone jacks all your shit. You should probably run a spyware / virus scan on your computer in the mean time. It's highly unlikely for someone to hack into your account if they didn't know the name and/or password/secret answer.
I've put my wow time on an indefinate hold until the next expansion comes out, I've been playing it since early december of 2004, and all of our stuffs goin to be upgraded with meger greens / blues at 72+ so running ssc / tk and the higher tier instances aren't going to mean much.
dude joshybear this sucks so much ass... but yeah, hopefully you can get all your stuff back like freak said. and hey, if you want to make a new guy on alliance pvp, you could come over to anetheron with me, carlos, and my bros *wink wink*
is this allua guy have like a high level guy or something on a different server? maybe you could confront him or something. omg maybe its like some hawaiin name or something! it sounds like it...

i turned 70 like a month ago and i was serioously considering that. but idk i'd figure i'd get used to how the game works at max level instead of being a noob at 80 when xpac come out. its gonna be hilarious when t6 is out and the greens are in.
Ahah... AHAH... AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I'd laugh meself if it happened to me if I was only lvl 34... annoyed, but would laugh. But 50+ I would be hella pissed...

they'll return the character with all its equipment (if it wasnt sold to a vendor) and all the gold it had (if it wasnt sent elsewhere). Its nothing hard since you got back the account.

Hey buddy, sorry about that. I accidentally guessed your pass, and well, you know.......jk
Sorry about it dude. That sucks balls. Like Fudlow said, you're always welcome to come with us. I'm at lvl 54, he's making some new characters, and we've got the ball rolling again. Come join us if you don't get your stuff back. Damn that sucks alot the more I think about it.
How did Blizzard allowed that? I doubt they found out the password that doesn't happen, it seems like a case of some internal game-related hacking.
You mean how could someone hack the account, since just guessing a password is too damn time consuming?
Sometimes the hacker figures it out either through interacting with the person that owns the account, or by tracking other sites on the net and piecing things together. And sometimes people are stupid enough to fall for scams when people claim they are from Blizzard and needs their account details.
Either that or someone just planted a virus or similar and recorded when he entered his account and password details. Not at all uncommon, it happens to "a lot" of people it seems.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
trojans that add keyloggers is the most usual method. or telling friends about it. i got 4 lvl 70 characters at the moment and another at 63, been playing for about 3 years and none ever managed to hack my account yet. most likely cause i'm playing from a "clean" computer.
Since just guessing a password is too damn time consuming?
A good password cannot be hacked unless you spend like ages on it. Most hackings are related to lame passwords, or they go outside the system, since tracking a complex password is too much time and no one would do it if they can do something else. And I figure if you pay for a game monthly you aren't going to use something lame as "pass" for it. There are password tracker programs for that which just retry all all common passwords, ranging form names to nouns to popular titles. There is a reason they recommend you to use numbers and different caps in a password. And never relate it to anything, moreover, it would be best if it didn't make sense. I would expect Jarhead to know that.
I am pretty sure he knows about scams. Or whatever.
Passwords are not stored on computer... unless it's Infnity.
I am pretty sure it's not the password. That's just dumb.
the thing is that playing WoW doesnt reveal any info about your account (unlike Diablo) unless you do. Most account losses happen through scams and keyloggers. Or the use of "unsafe" leveling sites which arent really advisable. The chances of "guessing" the right password for the right account (that you dont know) are less than being hit 5 times by a lightning in 5 minutes on a sunny day.
that sux 4 ur lossses, Im almost positive u downloaded a keylogger and thats how ur p/w got out. keyloggers are such small programs 99.999 % of time no one knows they are running

The first thing I do when I get a new computer or reinstall is try to memorize all the processes. That way when a new one shows up you know it doesn't belong there, and you can get rid of it and the roots of the problem without having to reinstall or go through a gigantic hassle.
Equinox: Wrong. Anything can be hacked by use of programs on the victim's computer or even the hacker's computer. All that is needed is desire to get in.
That's not what I said. I said if a password is good it's not going to be done via a password. Please read what I wrote before you attack it.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
