First of all sorry if there are post about this already, i could not find any.
Just wondering what peoples thoughts were to Armor/Weapons being class relative?
I always thought it was great being able to run a spell caster around in full plate and a great axe if i wanted to. Does anyone have any info on this as i hear there is talk that stats are auto assigned this already upsets me, and also suggests no plate for a non melee class. Blizzard could easily ruin this game with things such as sword skill level or plate/mail/leather/cloth skills like in WoW. God i hope nothing like that is brought in.

The armors and weapons will have no more stats requeriments, problably only level requeriments.
And everyone will use every kind of item, except the class specific ones like in D2.
Of course, there will be allways a preference for each class, but i guess once in a while we will brake the taboos.
it's too late for major changes i think , so - if there is a changes - we shall see them in the expansion
Too late? They are not even done with act 1/the five character. Plus, this is Blizzard, not EA. If they find something wrong w/ D3 the day before it's released they will change it.

What he said.
From what I've read, this seems to be correct. And I sincerely hope that they don't implement any kind of 'encumbrance=no-magic-use' mechanic, whereby spellcasters are useless in heavy armor.
Being awesome as they are though, I'm sure Blizzard won't.
Also, I think that, at higher levels at least, it won't matter anyways, as wizard-y armor will be so much better for spellcasters... but I digress. Only time will tell.

There was even talk of french toast, but there was none to be had

You are not the first, neither will be last that is scared if "Diablo" becomes "WoW"
anyway - i think we already move over these discussions.
and i start to keep on my last opinion , which is :
"LET DIABLO 3 BE WHATEVER BLIZZARD MAKE IT. IT WONT BE DIABLO 2 , BUT IT COULD BE THE NEXT GENERATION RPG MASTER GAME ( as Diablo 2 become )"
it's too late for major changes i think , so - if there is a changes - we shall see them in the expansion
lmfao how is it too late its not even close to beta stage yet... we are like 6+ months away from beta, heaps of time still to change anythng
oh okay thanks, i wasnt aware of the interview. that must have been awhile ago though. its been some months since they released d3 was in the making im sure its progressed alot.
I always thought it was great being able to run a spell caster around in full plate and a great axe if i wanted to.
It will be harder to make a wizard not look like a wizard in D3. It seems that all armor will have a custom look for each class. For instance, a full helm will look different on each class. This will help us distinguish each class better than in D2. D2 only had different armors for each class (and of course the base clothing). While things like helms, weapons and shields looked the same on each class when equipped. I think all the belts used the same 4 pixels too
Im not sure about the strength requirements being unattainable for some weapons/classes though. We'll have to wait and see.
In before this thread is polluted with half-truths and incomplete answers.
Armour will NOT be class related. Every class will be able to wear any kind of armour. SOME weapons will be class-exclusive. Think wands, shrunken heads, katars, etc - weapons that are only logical to be used by one class.
As for the progression of the appearance of equipped gear: nothing in that respect seems to change from how it was in D2.
to the man above me, what about set pieces? there are class specific set pieces.. lets not forget witch-doctor has a very unique look as does every other class so i could easily see quite a few class specific armor pieces.
I don't know why people are getting so crazed about class specific items. I find them to be useful, awesome looking, and I am very happy no one else but my class can wear it. It makes your character a little bit more unique than everyone else. Plus I am sure Blizz will make these types of items drop a little less often since they should be in the upper portion of the most powerful items for your class(atleast the high level items). I would like to see lower level sets/uniques drop more often from bosses because we have a shorter period of time using them.
But yeah class specific items are good because they add more variety, and I do not think blizz will make every item in the game class specific, because that is not the Diablo way and it does not make sense to change it.

Lachdonan. I agree with you here but this is not the point i was making. Items in D2 like the shrunken head i thought were excellent. I loved have my necro running around with a squishy zombie head. What I was talking about here was the items in D2 that were not class specific and that i hoped it would stay that way for D3.

Considering this is all we know about the topic...this should of been closed after this post
Either way like dime said most gear will be like D2 where you can wear it on any char assuming you meet pre reqs with the exception of a few items types like in D2(orbs for sorcs, pelts for druids etc...) So thats one way were gonna be able to custom make our chars the way we want
Well, according to Jay Wilson every piece of armor will look totally different this time around. Remember in D2 how helmets shields and weapons looked the same, no matter the class? Well now every shield will be feathers and bones if it's being used by a Witch Doctor. Every helmet will have huge horns/spikes if it's being worn by a Barbarian. Armor will all be robes on the Wizard.
I know I want a great helm to look like a great helm, not a huge fluffy headdress.
And yes, I forget the source. There're like 100 of them.

No. It was said by a dev in an interview in a magazine. I forgot which, but it was posted in the news section of this said.
