I went back and watched some of the D2 cinematics...and I can't believe how good they still look. They are friggin 8 years old and they still look really good. Wow...I can't even imagine what D3 cinematics will look like.
Aside of the classic cinematics between the acts, I think they should add like mini cinematics with the ingame graphics just before important events like when you're about to fight a big boss
Lazarus speech in DI was epic, you were just there surrounded by a whole bunch of succubi and crazy mages while he was telling that all you've done was for naught and that he was about to send you to hell.
D2 could have use to have more cinematics like that.

In game graphics could look that good too, but since it's not already recorded, computers can't handle it because there's also stress on the processor, where as playing a video takes much, much, less. There are also many more graphical calculations as the game you are playing is happening now, and has to be rendered now etc. Like when playing a video, it's always the same, but when playing a game, the CPU/GPU cannot predict what happens next, ya know?

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

There is actually an engine that has gameplay as crisp and solid as cinematic, I forgot the name of it. But it is far beyond streamlined gaming because it takes so much processing power and so much resources in general to actually run that kind of engine on regular or even gaming computers. Halo 3 Theater is perhaps the most solid rendering during gameplay I can think of. You can go through a level, and play it back at the end from any angle you want, from up high to right beside the character, it is awesome. That's with dedicated processors and hardware though, so naturally its better than a computer.
Either way, Blizzard has been innovating and amazing at what they do, I can't even imagine the sort of things they are planning. But I do expect them to live up to their standard and record of absolute excellence.

i think i said something similir to that. and asked people if they had ideas to say them if they wanted. but i guess nobody had any.
THat is because many to many of us, Blizzard is in a whole other league, their levels of expertise and skill are exponentially greater than we could ever hope to achieve. However that being said, I do not see why we could not at least try.
I don't really want it to get too much like WCIII, cut scene (however story related) every 5 minutes. I do like cut scenes, don't get me wrong, but when they are over used, they begin to wear on you, esp. if your only playing the game to MF and PK.
I think Prologue, the start of each following act, and epilogue, and maybe one before a really cool act boss. would do just fine. I would have loved to have had the butcher cinematic in Diablo 1.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Yes I agree with you there Elfen Lied. If there was on every little moment in the game a little video sequence, it would get a little boring, because you wouldn't be able to enjoy the game in the longer run.
I wouldn't actually mind, being that it is story for which I play the game, not MFing and PKing, however one cannot forget people do play the games for those very reasons. To them story is largely pointless, so constantly having little scenes wherein the story is progressed and updated is annoying to them, all they want to do is run around and kill stuff. Not enter the ruins of Inarius' temple and see him in there with his mutilated flesh and missing eyelids and locked in his prison of mirrors.
You need to try please all groups as much as possible.

Also, what about in-game RE4 style cinamatics as well?...
But your processor/gcard can render a 3D world, but cannot play a cinematic? Ok...

Burn the out-of-date no-cinematic heathen!
That's not problem as long as they make it fast to load and fast to skip while only making them for important events.
