That statement doesn't make any sense. What are you trying to say, exactly?
This might be weird, but I always saw Diablo II as like mega 2D. It looks a lot better for some reason and I can't put my finger on it. Ok, let me rephrase that.
I always have found Diablo II's 2D graphics superior to other 2D styles but I don't even know what makes it look better.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
2.5D roughly means that both 3D and 2D took part in the making of the game.
Well, the way Diablo 2 was made (not so sure about Diablo 1), is that they actually made 3D-models, and then used motion capture of them to produce more realistic 2D images.
But when I look at Divinity, it seems that it has been drawn from scratch.
The pictures don't do the game justice. It must be played to be appreciated. It is a fantastic game that goes much deeper into npc interaction and character development than the Diablo series.
Those DD graphics do look interesting but I don't see them as immersive as the D1 or even D2 graphics. The immersiveness is important for lost nights of no sleep due to hacking and slashing.
I'm not sure about what "immersiveness" you're talking about?
If talking about being immersed in a unique European feeling medieval setting then DD blows both Diablo and Diablo 2 out of the water.
What "immersiveness"? Well the fact that immersive means being absorbed into and in this case a game, feeling part of the game, this leaves me short. Those graphics are interesting but due to the distortion I don't think I could ever forget that I am just looking at a distorted isometric view that harks back to 90's games.
So the only way for you to be immersed is when its photorealistic?
If thats the case i don't see you being immersed in many things, be it art, movies, books,...
"Immersive" is just the latest buzzword, without explaining or defining it its completely useless and can only be seen as extremely biased opinion.
Did I say it had to be photo realistic? I don't think so. Those particular graphics don't sit well with me, that's all there is to it.
And Goodguy, if you have to play the game to comment then you need to go back and comment on every single post that referred to the screenshots which the poll was based on.
Current, modern 2D actively uses DirectX and other stuff, but, it is still 2D. All the advantages of a crisp picture and minimal performance strain are still there.
2D will not sell not because it doesn't look good. It will not sell because it is considered outdated by the mass public who chase after the latest technological advancement.
Whether its 2D or 3D, it is from Blizzard, and Blizzard always makes great games. D1, D2, WC, WC2, WC3, WoW, SC, all great games. So just shut up both of you and, at the VERY LEAST, the VERY least, wait till the damn game comes out to bitch and whine and moan that it isn't 100% what you fucking wanted, mmk?
I don't know how D2 is done, and neither do you. A big chunk of it is prerendered, and, yea, you could just use DirectDraw for all of it but you could as well not. What I was saying is that 2D games lately use 3D a lot. And by that I mean pre-rendering and DirectX is used to render stuff. But, yea, no one renders anything in the game. That's why 2D games are so amazingly fast.
Really, what are we arguing about, lol?

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Personally, I would say D1 > DD > D2
I really don't like the distortion, personally...

3D effects can be used on top of 2D, btw. Just have to assume that you are standing outside the drawing plane and the camera stands still.

Don't like the discussion - don't read it and get out of here...
WC3 sucks.
