Hmm, I just viewed some of the trailers for The Witcher, and I think it shows off that a 3d perspective for Diablo 3 could be done quite well if done right.
Something like this might be a good idea in my opinion..
I have not played Witcher yet, but I examined the screenshots, I don't think that Witcher's graphics fit Diablo well because they are intended for a close-up view. I would actually like it better if Diablo 3 had a 2D background with 3D models, similar to how Sacred, Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, and, if I'm not mistaken, Baldur's Gate did it. This gives a customizable and crisp background leaving the rest to the 3D models of the characters and monsters.
Speaking of the quality of 3D models, Lineage 2, Titan Quest, Heroes 5 are the best.
I voted Titan Quest and God of War, I prefer you see more of the terrain surrounding rather than it being too close.
Diablo II had very large areas to cover, I'm sure Diablo III would have even more.
Possibly depending on which area you in, it may zoom in closer for areas that are inside, but while outside you can see further distances.
If they go into more detail about how much you can customize your character then hopefully close enough to see your character in enough detail, to pick out and see the specific items that you are carrying.
My main concern is how indepth they go into customization, that was exactly what makes diablo II so popular, the pure range of variety in weapons. I hope they they go into more detail, even down to modifying your face (Oblivion style) to having different looks for all weapons/armour as much as possible. I loved how when you socketed certain items that they would change in colour depending on which gem you chose.
The whole point is make people want to improve their character and show him/her off to his friend of how hardcore he/she looks, but without it looking anywhere similar to someone else who has the same type armour.
Exactly why WOW is so popular, not the gameplay, just the pure feeling of being some hardcore warrior with the ability to do magic makes people feel better.
I based my choices on pics presented. The only ones I have played on this list are Diablo II and Sacred.

Give, expecting nothing thereof. ------------ BoD - Come have some fun! Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
i think as long as blizz dont go for cartoony, keep it dark and mysterious with a bit of gothic style, as long as it keeps Diablo 1 style with improved graphics i think it would be excellent, Diablo 1 graphics itself however i cant imagine being a hit
you can sharpen them up make them clearer but they are still the same, BG and BGII use the same graphics engine yet there is a bit of a difference between the two.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

3D sucks. D3 will be 3D therefore will look worse considerably than D1 (not mentioning D2 because it was worse). Unless, of course, you ran it in fullscreen mode on a 1600x1200 monitor...
2D games passed only because people go after technology instead of actual quality.
Oblivion has FPS allowance so therefore they can actually make it look "nice". But it is terribly optimized. But when it comes to these games like RTS or RPG there are too many units therefore they considerably lower poly count, texture quality, etc., so we end up with crappy 3D graphics and I would rather have 2D because 2D is unlimited (see the size of Daggerfall compared to Oblivion).
most of the games on the list are. ES IV, is really the only exception, but it can be played in 3rd person view if you want.

3rd person basically means you see the whole of the character, like in Diablo, God Of War, and pretty much every game in the poll.
First person is you see what they see, like in a shooter or Elder Scrolls and Might and Magic.

"Cards and flowers on your window, your friends all plead for you to stay,
sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way."
Anyhow, same as last time: Oblivion, d2, FFXI, GoW, GW, NWN
Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
ill add it next time.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
