I have posted a detailed explain post on battle.net forum, but that got deleted in a few minutes. Apparently bliz doesn't want to face this bug or has no clue how to fix it.
This wizard can easily solo GR90 with only 261K sheet DPS with Firebird 6 set. Vyr 2 set is also used to get Archon skill with all runes. So that the Fire damage archon can be used and have teleport.
The video pretty much explained how this build works. The mechanism or bug behind this is from firebird set.
Simply put:
A). the Burning effect from firebird 4 set can benefit from damage multiplier twice. i.e., the damage multiplier from archon skill and 6 firebird set are calculated twice.
B). firebird 6 set bonus can be kept permanently by ignite only one blue elite but not the other ones. If you use fire skills on the same enemy only once every 3 seconds, you will never ignite them.
The reason this build can not use higher sheet DPS is that once the fire damage reach a certain threshold, it will not be able to cause 4 set burning effect. Thus this build requires relatively low sheet DPS to work.
Firebird's Finery has been the focus of a lot of community discussion since the launch of Patch 2.4.1. As the patch and current Season settle in, we want to take a moment to share development insight on what's coming for this powerful class set in the future.
Firebird’s Finery has come a long way since its original implementation. We’re really happy with its theme. It’s the Fire set for Wizards and puts you in a place where you can burninate all the things. That’s awesome, we like that, and we want to preserve that feeling. On the other hand, we’re not happy with the bugs we’ve encountered and it’s become clear we need to take a new approach. We’re working on a fix that will be introduced in a future patch.
So, what does that mean for Season 6? There are a lot of players who have pushed hard and reached high ranks with these unintended bugs. However, we don’t want to punish players for working within the parameters given to them. To that end, the current functionality will remain intact for the duration of Season 6. Once these bugs have been resolved, you can expect that the power level of Firebird’s will be much more in line with other sets.
In short, the bug will not be fixed in season 6 and anyone who abuses this will not be punished.
My personal opinion on this: I don't understand this. It takes paragon 1000+ and a lot of practice, playtime, and augments to get a GR100 down as solo wizard without this bug. However, now all those "legit clears" will be pushed off the leaderboard, as with this bug everyone can eventually clear GR100. Not easily, but it's possible. Some people with the new builds (Tal/Vyr, or maybe even the Twister+Archon hybrid) will probably top the leaderboards, but most spots will be occupied by this build. So in my personal opinion, a sad day and a decision I don't understand. But well, here you go.
Not to bring down hellfire and flaming from all directions, but I'm seriously looking at this to help me level up gems in non-season as I've never been able to get very high before. I have no leaderboard aspirations and would just like to get up farther than I have for the legendary gem improvement. I've never exceeded 65 to my knowledge. If I can use this to get to 75-80, woohoo!
Are "normal" leaderboards a big deal like the seasonals are?
Would it even be easy to do this? The gear "requirements" look pretty special. You need enough toughness to survive a rift that is high enough so your cippled damage doesn't accidently kill your "buffbot".
What a joke excuse of a game. Every new patch there's a gamebreaking exploit that allows noobs to do GR 100. They keep moving sliders up and down on sets and they don't realize the synergy between all the sets and items will always result in some unintended exploit. Like the Federal Reserve
I've been testing a bit with my Wizard and maybe found other things aswell:
1.) The Firebird Elite-Stack can also be triggered (and kept) when you kill a burning blue-pack one after one, as long as not all of them burn
2.) A burning Elite (Blue-Pack for me) can trigger just a normal burning stack like you ignited just one white mob (had this once, will try to find out how exactly)
3.An Elite (Yellow for me) can burn, and NOT give a stack at all.
Well, you're rolling off or avoiding all crit related affix's so those are open for toughness rolls? It didn't look that hard to me.
Keep in mind I'm talking about using normal non-seasonal wizard stash to equip,
I got to test this and you're right, the gear requirements aren't that high, I must've catched a wrong toughness number from the vid. (edit: I didn't, but you don't need 90m toughness for gr80.)
I see no harm for you in trying, at least you'll get the joy of playing something very unconventional. That joy may be short-lived though because it honestly isn't much fun to play. The playstyle reminds me of the super early vanilla era, when you could beat the entire game with a DH @ 8k hp (eg getting one-shot by literally everything).
If you care about paragon and gem lvls(why?), this should be the fastest solo(!) route. However note that beyond that you'll never level these gems again with your regular chars, might influence the motivation to play them.
About leaderboards: I don't care about them, but given that the 4p players have reached 120 it doesn't matter if any solo class can bug its way to lvl 100. Paragon and gem lvls from the legitimate multiplayer "cheese" are still higher.
Anyone else having problems with fire blast missing? Its like the wd chicken, the boom misses some how.
Same stacks, same mob, zero damage or 1 shot.
Yes, seems to happen from time to time. No idea why, afaik there is no to-hit-roll. I also wonder if a crit can trigger the burn-effect. Yesterday I lost 3 lvl90 rifts at the RG because he accidently got incinerated. And I don't left-click at all.
Should work, you'd only have 20% elite damage from the diamond in your weapon in that case. If you have one, you could use a Sun Keeper and cube the Aether Walker.

I was having the same problems with my wd chicken i use to do bounties on. Mine only works half the time, its like massive desync. I got fios with no lag, so its not my side.
Ya, if it hit we would see it on gogok.
I kind of like it, it relys on the player not the para/gem lvl/gear.
The solo ladder doesnt really matter since people lvl up their para/gems in ez mode 4ppl games

that's a terrible bug indeed.
I wonder if bug still present with normal gear and high paragon.

Apparently Blizzard is fine with everyone using this bug:
