Many Diablo players are already using this class. They gain experience by joining parties and hanging around but not killing anything. They gain items by snatching your drops or trade-scamming. All around I'm sure it's a viable class.
Muahahahaha ..... exp leech ftw!!

There's nothing better than bashing monsters with your friends
Some poster mentioned 'Paragon," as in, a holy ranged class which basically kills two birds with one stone for class archetypes in the Diablo world. This leaves the 5th class to be something delicious :).
Something fun......lol......Honestly I could care less as long as all the classes are fun and diverse. Altho I think a class based around actually being some rebel demon or undead would be cool....

Yeah, lets get a Fallen One Hero (a la Rakanishu). Or the return of Gharbad the Weak as a playable character.

Isn't that really cliche type character from D&D ?
It's nothing original really. Although it could be made into a cool fighter, I think that would be something for later addons, not on the initial release. I hope they make something more ground breaking than a "Monk". I mean c'mon, be creative.
There was a guy on crack that had made a thread about a "Dragon Fighter that shoots lazer magic of death from his sword". Shit it was ludicrous but at least it had originality, haha.

Cliche? yes......so what? We already have a wizard and barbarian there both VERY cliche, and the witch doctor might be new to blizzard games but is hardly original an idea....

Ya I feel the same way. My two guesses would be :
1. Zealot :Agile swordsman and devoted religious beings, the Zealot preaches on good and vows to destroy evil no matter the cost. He's a trained demon slayer and specializes in light/dark energies. Unlike the paladin, most of his attacks will bring torture and pain to his adversaries. He also possesses the powers to imbue his weapons and enchant his equipment during religious rituals. Unlike the paladin, the Zealot is the kind of character that enjoys to impute the most terrible death on wicked beings. His skills : swordsmanship/shield mastery, Holy protection, Damned magic
2. Marauder: Mix between archer/druid/assassin. Comes from the northern regions, he used to participate in fierce raids against helpless villages. He used to live in a "pack" but decided he had enough of killing and slaughtering, so he went "lone wolf". He learned to count on his inner animals to survive on his own, on his bow and small swords to attack his preys and on combat techniques to overcome any foe may it be little girls, women, men or demons ...
I'm just shooting these two as my most probable guesses. The back story is just a start idea and my attempt to fit them into the D3 story.
Edit : with these two it would make : Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Wizard, Zealot, Marauder.

I liked the Zealot idea.
The maurauders seens like a Barbarian with bow O.o'
I would to see:
Avenger: She would use bows for ranged attacks, daggers for close combat, some holy skills for bonuses vs. demons and undeads, traps (not sentrys) for ambushing enemys, flash of light as crowd control (instead of stealth, you make your enemys blind) and maybe some suportive skills. It's like a mixture of Assassin(traping, fast close range combat) + Amazon (evasions, bow attacks) and paladin (holy bolts and auras).
The way I see the marauder.... he is similar to a wild beast with human intelligence. He can morph into animals and get aid from spiritual guides that enables him to enhance his strength, agility and speed. He is all about nature, he has a strong connection with the American Indian culture and the Russian culture. He is in other words a survivor, not a pure combatant. His best weapons are his finesse and dexterity to control his surrounding environment. With the marauder, you can chose 2 distinct paths. You either invest into close combat techniques/spells and become an enraged wild beast or you chose to become a pure ranged scavenger which kills using numerous ranged weapon (bows, crosbows, thrown daggers, harpons ...). You can also choose to be both. There will be no traps involved as it slows the game too much. D3 is supposed to be even faster than D2 so I guess that anything that demands preparation needs to be put away.
So. If I can put some cultures/regions for each character according to what I currently know :
Barbarian = Irish, Celtic
Witch Doctor = Haiti, Africa
Wizard= Asia
Zealot = Middle East
Marauder = America (American Indian part) and Russia (endured and physical warrior part)

I'd say barbarian has very visable Scandinavian roots as well with the whole living in the cold along with his very ritualistic winged and horned helms same as vikings wore, though I do see the early Germanic thane(esque) apeal that he has
The idea of a Thane was making me think
Thane- Nobel worrior who works for old germanic kings/warrlords and had very direct roles in combat. Could be combined with Druid or some other form of Magic to make a semi-paladin
the thane could have three skill trees
Leadership - Mix of offensive and deffensive auras as well as other moves that either imcompasitate or help the party as a whole rather than the thane himself
Combat Skills - More direct combat moves mix of Barbarian moves and Paladin moves from D2 possibly infused with nature magic in some way
Power - Possible Buffs like battle crys or even an aura or 2 that wouldn't fit in the above categories a mix of attacks infused with nature magic, and nature magic on its own possibly even a summor or two. If you REALLY want it maybe a transformation, though I wouldn't want it personally i see how it could fit

YUCK!
Is it just me, or you just described the Druid from D2:LoD?
At least I tried not to. Actually it may seem so but it isn't beside the morph thing. He is more of a hunter than a ritualistic druid (like in D2). The marauder doesn't control elements, he uses spirits/forest spirits to become stronger. The D2 druid had : Elemental magic, Shape Shifting and summoning. The one I describe is very different. He is an expert with ranged and close combat weapons, he uses animal spirits to ameliorate his physical condition and he is a technical expert that excels in dodging and counter attacking (combat techniques). For playing as the druid since LOD first got out I never saw my character do that 0.0!

How about the dart shooter class? You know, like those midget in D2 jungle level.
Martial Art class? One that use spike gauntlet and steel toe boots.
Bo wielder class? As long as you don't use it like a pole axe, lol.
Yeah, lets get a Fallen One Hero (a la Rakanishu). Or the return of Gharbad the Weak as a playable character.

unfortunetly that wont happen because diablo is about MAN's struggle to survive as you playing the one trying to save it...meaning no higher powers
