i havent really gone full throttle on the AH but it seems like i can't even sell above average gear. the only thing that sells is great to really great... for reference I'm think about gear on a scale like so-
grey
white
bad
leveling gear
average gear
above average gear
great great
really great
unbelievably great
amazing gear
I tend to sell only really good items so my sales are small because I just don't find that many really good items... which is fine by me because that's how life works.
I like to think I've gotten better at pricing items and my profits show that - I'm also not afraid to let things go for less than the competition because a sale is a sale and if I can help someone get something at a good price while making a decent profit then great!
I have noticed this also. Gear now has to be really damn good to even make it into the "put this on the AH later today" stash tab. I used to have a backlog of items while waiting for them to move on the AH, but now I rarely have more than 3 or 4 auctions up at once. I'm just not finding things worth my time, since the really great items are doing just fine with keeping the gold flowing.
For the mid range items (i.e. stuff that looks useful but certainly is not worth millions), I often guess a price and then keep cutting it in half until it sells, or it reaches below 100k, then I vendor it. Imho it's not worth the time to look those items up on the AH, but I like to keep my AH tabs in use.
This generates a few 100k to a mil or two daily for me, and keeps the gold up. Add in gold drops and I make a million per day even if nothing really good drops.
Exactly this. If you're "selling nothing" it's because you're pricing incorrectly or valuing stats incorrectly.
Absolutely prices have dropped as of late for mid-range gear, because at a minimum paragon means better items are being found by more people (to a large degree), and additionally, more people are in higher content because of that and the nerfs to elites and affixes. This is a good thing for everyone claiming they can't afford anything and can never progress. Why? Because you can now buy the gear that gets you into Act 2 and 3 farming for a pittance of what it was just a month ago. This means you can start farming content where you have a realistic chance of getting one of those awesome rares or legendary items you're seeing going for a zillion gold right now (which are also falling in price).
I'm entirely confused when people say they've "never had more than X amount of gold," as well. Are you giving it away? Are you buying random crap to salvage, are you crafting useless 4 and 5 affix stuff? If you're buying "upgrades," undoubtedly you should eventually gain enough power to progress further, gaining even more gold and better items to progress even more. It's ridiculously hard to regress in this game - in fact, damn near impossible unless you're playing with a semi-naked, undergeared character, in a difficulty that's beyond your skill or gear level (player responsibility to determine).
Stop tossing anything you're "guessing" sucks, and start spending a little more time in the AH seeing what's decent. Don't try and squeeze every last gold out of items, and don't be afraid to bid and lose items to get a decent deal.

What these guys have said. Also when pricing I find its easier to sell by searching for items with slightly less stats than your and undercutting those. I dont worry about lost gold from undercutting I am just happy for a quick sell.
