I thought it was funny in Act 4 when he 'lost hope' and then before you fight Diablo, he's all - hopeful, again. Such a mood swing, not manly at all.
He lost hope because Auriel (the Archangel of Hope) was captured. Upon freeing her hope was restored to the heavens. It wasn't exactly a "mood swing"
Yeah, but he isn't part of the heavens anymore :o. The thing that pissed me off the most how they made all the souls of the evils magically appear in the black soulstone. They were just like oh Adria did that... wtf
Actually, Auriel's capture affected more than just the Heavens.
Look around the Keep area when you're on the quest to free her. It's pretty well-done. The entire town is filled with despair, and a married couple even commits suicide.
Um... the worldstone wasn't created for that purpose. They specifically say that heaven and hell had fought over it for thousands of years. They traitors of both sides took it and hid on sanctuary. It was just that had become scared of the power of the nephelam they had created and re purposed it to seal their powers
Oh shit, yeah my fault :P. My mate has had my Book of Cain for nearly a month now so I didn't have anything to really refer to, that whole reply was from memory! Thanks for correcting me though

Wow Simca I never noticed that. I need to check that out now... small details but i love when they put in small details like that.
And also human =/= nephalim. nephalim were the human progenitors if you will because once the worldstone was altered the powers of the nephalim went bye bye. they didn't "forget", that potential was literally removed. Its not like wort was simply a nephalim who forgot or something as even the week nephalim from the beginning were kinda nuts on the power scale of this universe.
Ruined him? He fell from the heavens so he could fight against evil. How is that ruining him?
Tyrael is badass in Diablo 3.
Wait, are you talking about his appearance? That's about the only thing that would make sense.
He did not "fall" from the heavens, he was kicked out after taking off his wings..after having a pissing argument with imperius whom he already knew was high tempered, watch the cinematic again, he is surprised when the strange tenticals come out and drag him into the ground, he even struggles against him.
His character is just so badly developed compared to how he was in D2, In the Act 2 cinematic he shows Leah what happened to him, in the Act 3 cinematic he pulls Leah out of her dream like state while Azmodan was talking to her, and in Act 4 he reclaims his spot as part of the council only this time as a mortal and as Wisdom...What? He actually doesn't do anything, During the Diablo fight he is standing outside.
The only kickass thing he does was break the gate him which seigebreaker is behind...Oh but I forgot...right after he does that, he runs behind you like a coward
Also, I didn't want to mention that he was a sulking crybaby in Act 4 until you find him again, but he was.
Another thing that bugs me, If he is now mortal and can die, how exactly did he survive falling form heaven in a flaming meteor through the roof and 5 stories into the cathedral and then laying in blue flames until your hero taps him on the shoulder?
You are 9 sorts of confused/unhinged/uninformed/unaware.
He *chose* to fall, by removing his wings. That the security system in Heaven ejected him only emphasizes that what he *chose* to do worked.
He fell to help guide them (humanity/the player). Not to do all the work. Would be a stupid ass story if the whole point of the game was running around changing Tyrael's diapers while he whips ass the whole time. "Here, Tyrael, a potion! Let me run sell these white items for you Tyrael!"
Siegebreaker comment - retarded. You may have done better work in elementary school - 4 weeks ago when you got out.
Not truly mortal, just no longer an angel. Who in hell can you be smart enough to type legibly and strings word together properly, yet have absolutely no clue how ridiculous they sound?
Sucks *you* don't like the story. Sadly, judging by your post, you are no better at writing than Blizzard.
As I explained in IRC earlier Tyrael might not actually be "mortal" mortal. If that would be the case a new Archangel of Justice would've almost instantly popped out of the Crystal Arch. Instead he will likely reincarnate from the Arch when he dies "mortally".
My theory will go to waste once a new Archangel of Justice pops out of the Arch.
edit: And because someone said "well he did say "I'm... dying"" and then quit IRC, well, that was before he knew he was an Archangel, and even with that my theory up there still stands that he might've just reincarnated back from the Arch.
My question would be, why on earth would you get a tattoo of something unoriginal (by this I mean not of your own work or ideas) in the first place, you're marking your body for life - this is the thing I see people doing all too often, they see something they like in a magazine/game/movie or whatever and then get it emblazoned into their flesh, without wondering if in a few years time they could stand to even look in the mirror at it.
I've got tattoos, but made the decision to dwell on original designs drawn in part by myself and the artist (he did most of it as my artwork is not up there lol), 16 years later I still look at them and admire them, is it to everyone's taste? no, not all the time, but I'd rather something that was a part of me in some form than something popular drawn by an artist for a video game.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have got it, that was entirely up to you to decide, it's just not something that makes sense to me.
The thing that pissed me off the most how they made all the souls of the evils magically appear in the black soulstone. They were just like oh Adria did that... wtf
What are you talking about? You see Belial and Azmodan getting put in it.
I think they're referring to how the other evils got in there

It was said that Adria "marked" the souls to be absorbed into the Black Soulstone. It isn't explained how that was done or anything, but that was why she had left Leah's life and went around the world - the mark the souls of the demon lords to be absorbed into the black soulstone upon their death.

He chose to become mortal we saw that. I imagine he knew he wasn't going to be able to just keep strolling around as a mortal in the High Heavens, or else why would he have even done it. He wanted to come help Humanity.
His character in D2, awesome for the time because not many games had memorable characters, looked cool, but he was about as deep and developed as a rock. The Sinwar helped show us a lot of other facets to his character other than "righteous angel guy". D3 showed us more of his caring side.
The only kickass thing he does was break the gate him which seigebreaker is behind...Oh but I forgot...right after he does that, he runs behind you like a coward
You're right. He should have just stood there and died I guess, that would have been more badass. Not to mention game mechanics.
Also, I didn't want to mention that he was a sulking crybaby in Act 4 until you find him again, but he was.
He is mortal and a living being, he's entitled to feelings. Even angels and demons have emotion. This was the first time in thousands of years that the High Heavens had ever been breeched, lots of his old brethren have been killed, Malthael has already gone missing, Imperius who he used to be close to is angry at him and Auriel is captured and possibly dead.
Another thing that bugs me, If he is now mortal and can die, how exactly did he survive falling form heaven in a flaming meteor through the roof and 5 stories into the cathedral and then laying in blue flames until your hero taps him on the shoulder?
The wings shielded him from the fall with the last of their power? Maybe Eldruin did something to protect him and that's why it shattered? Maybe he's mortal but still a lot more durable than a human so a fall wouldn't kill him?
I thought overall it was a pretty decent story. Leah I didn't like, they tried to hard with her, but they took the story of the Diablo series which it really didn't even have much of one in the game timeline and it fleshed it out a lot more. It gave us a lot more on the angels, a lot of plot devices, backstory, and set up future events to continue.
Besides, what does ANY of that have to do with how badass a tattoo looks still?
That is a good question, I too laughed at the idea before.
I thought it was funny in Act 4 when he 'lost hope' and then before you fight Diablo, he's all - hopeful, again. Such a mood swing, not manly at all.
I thought that was because Diablo had captured the Angel of Hope bringing everyone down except for the nephalem who went on to free her and restoring hope.
Okay, since i actually have a Tyrael tattoo, i gues that i am the best person to answer this question. Do i regret getting a Tyrael tattoo? Not at all, although i was a bit disappointed that he lost 99% of his awesomeness and is now mortal with a different voice, i did not like that at all. However we all have the memories of how bad ass he was back in D2.
Besides, who says that it HAS to be associated with Tyrael later on in life? I usually just refer to it as an arch angel or just an angel when someone who doesnt even know who Tyrael is asks. Its even better looking than a traditional arch angel tattoo if you ask me, especially the wings and "wing armor".
Here is a picture of the unfinished tattoo, its finished now but i havent got an updated picture here atm:
Gameplay wise he did nothing at all except resurrect your stupid Merc every time they died or cast portals for you to go through.
Cinematic wise he got beaten up and disarmed by Baal/Tal'rasha and eventually in act 5 he destroyed the worldstone by throwing El'druin into it (and in that case I'm sure El'druin did most of the work - just as it does in Diablo 3)
So technically, the only badass things about Tyrael in Diablo 2 are his sword, El'druin, and the way he looks.
The angels in the Diablo series do look amazing, but that goes for all angels, not just Tyrael.
