It's different. Your sys have 15 years. If the kids have something like 10 years he may not be able to understand the intentions of the people he will meet online.
And i don't think this tread as someone making a drama about buy sacred instead of D3 because it have no lan. He just didin't like the decision of no LAN for personal reasons and wanted to discuss that with us lol
If they're too young for the game, this thread is hypocritical.
If they're old enough to play it, they're old enough to play online without being monitored. Control your kids when it comes to drugs, staying out too late, sex, etc. Video games... come on. If they're 15+ they've likely already been exposed to everything they'll find on Bnet anyways.
Do you let your kids outside? You can't get raped on Bnet, but you can get raped in the real world, so it seems to me like you should never let them leave the house.
Maybe you're just optimistic regarding human intentions, or reasons. I think every form of control has been has been made in the name of "best intentions".
That's exactly what I said  People aren't generally evil just to be evil, they have prior reasons to be so, and usually those are justified by initial good intentions for the parties involved. In this case, it would be the parent(s) wanting to be helpful and protecting of their children, but in doing so they go overboard and the children live in a bubble. They mean the best and think they're doing the right thing, but they're really exhibiting a large amount of harm on the children, whether it's immediately visible or not.

Yea I was thinking of something like this. I mean if my parents were way overprotective and on me all the time im not normally an angry person but If they did that I would be vary upset and probably angry all the time. Like any person you need your space and you have overprotective parents on you all the time that will cause problems. I know I would be alot more angry than I would be now (Im really never angry unless my sister is buggin me) but if they were constantly on me I would just idk be so upset cause I would want to be left alone. Parents can be protective but they dont gatta be like constantly on them monitoring every little thing they do.

Anyways, i really don't see what the problem is with "kids" going on-line. I mean fuck, is there a problem with "kids" playing outside, despite there being a million more creeps/dangers? Maybe if you're too lazy to do your fucking job as a parent and, you know, actually teach your kids something.
Yeah agree.. what I've heard about my to be wifes sisters kids the kids out there nowadays are damn evil. I'm quite sure it is a lot safer for the kid to hear some rubbish insults online rather than getting bullied on the playground.
Your kids, your decision? True. Why post it on this forum? I doubt it would change a corporate decision. I hardly think online "Creeps" would maul your children's brain. I mean, I've been an internet/video game addict for as long as I can remember..and all I kill right now are cats and dogs, with the occasional hamster!
Personally, I'm hoping for an M rating myself. Wouldn't be Diablo 3, to me, without it.
That is to say, if you're kids aren't MATURE enough to handle b.net, they aren't MATURE enough to play Diablo 3. Yeah.

1) tell them not to give personal information away (hopefully you can at elast trust them to do this)
2) let them play
3) stop being paranoid
Im assuming they are at least 10 years old? That being said, unless they are little babies nothing in diablo is going to scare them. And at some point they are going to hear/see someone cuss.
If your kids are old enough to play the damn game, then they should be old enough to play on battle.net. In fact, if your kids can't handle being called a bitch over the internet then there's problems to begin with.
my mates and I have LAN parties all the time its going to suck alot if D3 dont have that option I cant see why they cant do it I dont think there is much difference between LAN and bnet really.
It may not be different for the programmers.
But no doubt it is really different for the players (the lag is drastically reduced on LAN).
I think YOU NAILED IT COMPLETLY!!
I don't play on Battle.net on StarCraft, Diablo II and WarCraft 3 BECAUSE ITS SO FREAKING LAGGYYYYYYY. They now want to FORCE us to go on their online servers while they perfectly know that the first version didn't worth a ?$%?%.
And I got a good connection, in fact, very good connection. But who here NEVER tried to join a game that is 20 hours OLD?! I know EVERYONE did because this is Bnet 1.0 crap! IT happens in SC, D2 and WC3. In SC its even worst, you are lucky if you can find 1 working game, and of course there is nearly no way to be able to host a game, even if you play with you're friend in the SAME house!
Of course everyone wants to play on lan, ME FIRST! I mean, I don't care about people langage or anything on Bnet, I do care about:
Join game, loading screen, the door won't open, 5 mins later, The game is unavailable, damn Bnet, did you rly took 5 mins to find this out?
Ya, LAN allllll the way. I support you for your kids.
