posted a message on Why Diablo 4 demo is not getting the “dark” feel of Diablo 1 and 2

It's somewhat as dark or darker than D2, it's clearly isn't as dark as D1, not looking at the stream at least.

It might be important to point out we've also only seen like 5% of the overall map and dungeons. If you would only see the Caves in Diablo 1 which is grey but clearly not dark, or Act2 or Act5 of Diablo 2, you would also say, meh, not really dark.

TBH, Diablo 1 Cathedral is the darkest place, it's dark, it's grey.

    D1

Diablo 2 dark places also are things like Cathedral, Flayer's Dungeon, things like that, it's dark, gloomy, but again.

    D2

    Diablo 4

So value-wise, it's really not that far off, colors are much tamer than D3, values are pretty good. A little note here for people who watch Twitch streamers play. The blacks are totally lost, either from compression or I dont know, so yeah, it's a bit weird they didn't try to get the brightness right. If you inspect the values from what you get in twitch, the pixels who should be pure black (outside the walls in a dungeon say) are floored at like a value of 20 grey, which is a bid deal, you lose about 10% of your dynamic range, so game looks a bit milky on stream.

When it comes to the theme. The game looks wayyyy more gory than any other games we've had so far. I mean, there are camps where tents are basically bloody, fleshy, flapping around. There's ALOT of blood, and it looks great, your character gets blood on him when you swing. The drowned zombies are pretty frkin ugly gory too, did you see that sea witch or whatever that fat bloated zombie lady when she dies? She burst, and bile and blood is spewing out as her bloated intestines cover the floor.

Smart drop is nice, until you want to gear some alts! :D

I just ran a first Skeleton King on one of my 60s (with the bug, the fist kill is guaranteed leg). I went with my Wizard in Torment 1. The Leg is a sword, 2hand i believe, something to be excited about for my Barbarian who also need some new gear, it rolled 300+ intel. Well, this is going to the salvage bin...

posted a message on Is Loot 2.0 > Loot 1.0?
It's pretty hard right now to make a judgment, because right now, we have loot 2.0 fighting against loot 1.0. My main was quite geared already and had trouble looking for direct upgrade upfront. I wouldn't say though that the legendary attributes are completely useless. Indestructible items is interesting even if it's not the most incredible one. Shad3slayer seems to think a legendary properties is useless because it doesn't improve you DPS, but I don't think it should be this way, it's actually something they should try to avoid, or then people can figure out what is the best Legendary to get, and then, ALL legendaries but the select few become total crap.

Right now, I feel like the loot is in a good place, it feels obviously more rewarding, and I no longer feel like I need to go on the AH to ever progress (especially on alts with less gear). I still think though that Primary stats + crit + AS is just too good, and the game could benefit from more variety in them, because yes, maybe in 6 months after the release of RoS, people will have gotten to a point where getting an upgrade require the same item to drop with simply higher rolls on your good attributes.

posted a message on % Elemental damage question.
I haven't tested it, but "Y skills deal X% more damage" cannot possibly increase the elemental portion of a weapon dps! It would be insane! My 1460dps manticore would end up a 1600+dps Manticore with only a 20% increase. Not that I wouldn't like it. But it seems to make elemental weapon so OP, all you have to do is find a weapon with very high elemental damage, get a few items with skills deal X% more damage attribute, change glyph around, and boost your DPS to insane numbers.

On top of that, it would make too much of a good synergy. You would never get any upgrades, until you can replace all these gear to a new spell type, weapon AND extra gear that gives the bonus...

    Someone look into it? :D

getting 60-70 is probably going to be a trivial amount of time. In other words, even if you hold on to level 60 items, and they are indeed your best items until farming level 70, it will hardly make any difference in the long run because of how quickly we will get from 60 to 70 and will get all these upgrades by farming level 70 stuff.

Lol at the no end game content... Do you realize we can say this with pretty much ALL the single player/coop games in history?

Mario, you finish the game, tried to break some score records, then what.

Doom, you finish the story, you,ve got your BFG and beat the boss at the highest level, then what?

StarCraft, you finish the campaign, you beat the hardest computer setting, then what?

Skyrim, you finish the campaign, you beat every monster and boss in the game, you are now the kind of the world, now what?

The only way for a video game to stay alive forever is to have competitive PVP (Street Fighter, Battlefield, Starcraft multiplayer) or have the game add constant new content (MMOs, Mod community).

posted a message on How many times did you level yesterday?
Im pretty sure Cursed Chest is the fastest way around, by a large margin, there's a stream of a guy at level 300+ getting a level every 20 mins. It's more efficient because it's broken, because the chest is right by a waypoint, so people just keep making Torment VI games with 4 players and do the event, and remake. It's extremely boring, but it gives crazy XP, the event alone gives something like 15millions XP, before monster kills get counted, or something around this, so yes, it's very hard to compete against something like that. It's so efficient that Blizz is considering options as to how to stop it, ban, rollback or just nerf it to the ground.

I wouldn't be surpise to see an hotfix coming up in the next couple of hours, and then we will see if players were penalized/rolledback for abusing it. I wouldn't recommend starting now.

This is the patch Diablo 3 needed. I was skeptical, but this game ROCKS! Leveling is so much smoother now, you keep finding upgrades and cool legendaries that indeed can change your spec, although I haven't personally got one that did. I have got a shoulder upgrade (was better than my crafted one) that makes all my gear indestructible, no biggy, but still fun! The crafting bracers (Razorspikes) give a +% on elemental spells, which is pretty nice, and made me switch a few Runes around. Very fun so far, alot of good rares and alot of legendaries, in about 3 hours, i got about 10 (although some were from 100% boss drop).

posted a message on new patch and hellfires
Im personally hoping that the game will feel relevant for not-hardcore people like me. Right now, I'm slowly grinding my paragon levels in act1 MP-6-7-8 (depending on how I feel like kiting). The thing though, is except for the fact that I could buy new gear off the auction house when price kept going down, I never actually upgraded my character in anyway. I never found a single upgrade at level 60, I crafted a few BOA items that I could easily replace on the AH with less than a million gold right now.

I am really hopeful that the new system will allow me to find upgrades, no matter how good they are, just so I can feel a progression.

Wow, 3 extra for a collector's edition. They sure like to troll... Because have 3 extra slot has so much to do with the term Collector... Not like it will affect me, but I still think they are running out of ideas to make money. gone are the days when they could make enough money by just making good games.

posted a message on First Kill Legendary

I wonder if it can be done to farm a certain level range of legendary, let's say you kill Diablo at a level appropriate to grab Leoric Signet (find the sweet spot, not to low to not have a chance to drop and not to high so its "upgraded" version would compete with too many other legendaries) Is there a Legendary that is REALLY good early on, basicly making a new character just to farm that level range with a power-acting friend.

posted a message on Diablo III Auction House is Shutting Down on March 18, 2014
The removal of the Auction Houses was critical to ensure the game improves. No matter how fun the item hunt gets with Loot 2.0, if AH was to stay, the market would adjust to keep being more efficient than getting the gear yourself.

This will probably "help" the online black market being once again the best way to go for the best items, but the thing is, back in Diablo 2, it was a very thin minority that used d2jsp unlike the AH on Diablo 3.

I like your suggestions, but like the previous ones, they feel a bit too complex for the fast paced idea of Diablo 3, it would be an awesome feature for a RPG or MMO, but I wouldn't personally want this, at least, at that level, in Diablo 3.

    Quote from insanetrasher

Give me at least 2008 graphics and I'd trade D3 for D2 anytime. I'd even pay 60$ for it, nothing changed to gameplay (except maybe potions spamming removed) just updated graphics (and not even today's graphics).

Personally, I am suprised no one came up with some kind of patch that would basicly just upscale the whole game via a post processing shader. Just enough so it can smooth pixels out to be a bit easier on the eyes. À-la- SNES emulators upscale filters.

    Hes been fired, GREAT!

lol, he steered Diablo III development into being the top-selling PC game of the year, and as a result, Blizzard have tasked him with replicating that success on a new title.

The only reason it was the best selling game was because people were waiting for a sequel for many years. It doesn't mean the game was good. It was only until a week (or less) after it's release that people realized this and were pissed.

That's correct. Blizzard just can't be happy with how Diablo 3 turned out. They had Blizzard fans in the palm of their hands. They didn't have to make a good game to ensure a record sale. But delivering a bad game would make fans more aware next time. This is actually a very bad situation to be in. I preordered Diablo 3 collector's edition, my first collector's edition EVER. I bought every Blizzard game on day1 before preorder was a marketing stunt. Now I know I will never preorder a single game, and will wait to see how the game feels before buying it. I will not give my money so blindly next time. Not anymore.

Everyone I talked of Diablo 3 with share the same feeling about Blizzard, like they lost their touch, simply because Diablo 3 wasn't as good as it could have been. They thought they could do anything about this game, changing every aspect of it every 2 months in front of the fanbase. Add a transaction system, remove gameplay mechanics that were well thought in earlier itterations before removing them so it could fit their new RMAH system. They played with fire and they got burned. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes right now, must be a hard time when you know you aren't the flawless, most perfect, game company in the world anymore.
