first of all let me say hello to all fellow diablofan forum posters, after a good year of following diablofans ive finally decided to make a account.
so basicly im just wondering how will inferno mode work once new expansions come out. and what i mean by this is say in diablo 2 there was no real sort of level cap i mean there was level 99 but hardly any 1 got there and it wasnt neccassary.
the normal level was around 85 and all end game hell items were around for that level.
now in inferno u have to be level 60 so essentially this wil be the diablo end game now when a expension comes out im assuming the level cap will be raised and we will get new areas to level in. in sayin that will you then scale the whole game to reach the new level cap.
say atm inferno is all level 61 once a expension comes out wont we potentialy outgear the old diablo content and just be gear finding in the new expansion areas thus making all the gear prior to expension useless.
or will u be planning ahead and makin sure all items dropped in inferno are high enough and good enough for when expensions come rolling around and we are higher level thus wanting only the new expension gear? the last thing i want is this to be like wow where once new conent comes out we never want to gear find for in the old conent prior to expension.
btw sorry for bad english it is not my first language.
what im hoping they do in expansions is add completely new content that can only be played on inferno difficulty (whether they raise the level cap or not). this way you have a reason to play inferno and to get the best gear from there.
If they do it like original d2 to LOD, you'll be starting from scratch again so it wont even matter. Only WOW expansions have let you keep the same character and continue to build upon it.

They already said there will be NO resets. People are spending real money on items this time around. YOu can't just go in and delete all that after they've paid for it just because you install an expansion. You'll simply play the expansion areas on the hardest difficulty with your capped toons and start over with the new classes that are sure to come with an expansion.
Easy question, when a new expansion comes out. Blizz raises the monster level cap higher like 5603495 times our level cap. Who says they are not creative like the RMAH for example. They will probably start adding in gear for the pvp system in the future for all the pvpers and make diablo pregnant to the pvers.
While I agree, in effect the economic value of top-tier items is likely to go to zero anyway once the expansion gear outclasses it.
that's to be expected and to be honest welcomed, it quickly de-saturates the market with whatever over abundant items that were previously there essentially rebooting the economy when item databases are upgraded

Not arguing whether it's good or bad. Just that it's not very different from deleting items people paid for.
I could actually see Blizzard taking a simplistic route on this matter. Avoiding the gear and level gap problem areas.
- Step 1 - Act 5 only appears in Hell and Inferno difficulty.
- Step 2 - Adjust Inferno to the new level cap.
- Step 3 - Adjust Inferno visual gear tiers to drop at the front of Act 5 Hell.
- Step 4 - Add 1-2 new visual tiers to the end of Act 5 Hell.
- Step 5 - Insert new distinct Inferno visual gear tiers.
- Step 6 - Demote those who were taking part in Inferno at launch to Hell Act 4 complete state.
While it is not very plausible I certainly would not be surprised and not sure if I would hate it.
I'm very confident Blizzard will not release new items with expansions which make older items useless. With the integration of the RMAH, and the fragile economy which will form off of rare items, and their stats I can't see Blizzard just adding better gear, thus completely changing the economy.
As touched on in some posts here, they could just add new items with better visual appeal, but around the same effectiveness of previous Inferno dropped items.
Say Blizzard releases an expansion with a new class, and new act. The act would obviously be scaled to all game difficulties, even Inferno. I'd also expect a level cap bump, to better your character though auto-distributed stats, and new gear which will be added to the drop list of Inferno. These items would just add to the list of awesome endgame gear people will be grinding for.
Now assuming Blizzard gets the drop rate right, and rare items truly are rare, than by the time an expansion comes out the economy will still be very fresh in the sense that rare items are still rare and hard to come by. In Diablo 2 this just wasn't the case.. Between dupes and some broken drop rates rare items weren't rare at all.. This also was effected by the fact that there was very little content added to the game.
So all and all in an expansion I would expect an added act, class, and items which still cap at about the same DPS as original items, but may just look better or add other visual effects to your character.
This may sound terrible to some people, but I feel a lot of fans right now aren't real zing the economy in Diablo 2 was filled with rare items far more quickly than will happen in Diablo 3. I think it's safe to assume rare items will still be very rare, even when the first expansion comes out. So the addition of similarly stated items wouldn't hinder the economy.

The game's not even out and here we are talking about expansions
As a child you spoke about how life would be when you're an adult didn't you? And now you speak of how life will be in a few years, correct? There's no harm in discussing happenings which are still far off in the future.

...
Most people don't play past Normal. Not people on this forum, obviously... the more casual types that represent 98% of Blizzard's customers.

I am aware and is why I said it is not plausible yet I would not be shocked. The statistics of what difficulties players played through in D2 is not relevant. After ten years you cannot expect the same player base. Gaming has changed and I feel it is safe to say that D3 will sport a much larger one. If it is expected that only 2% of the buyers will play past normal then why not just cut out all other difficulties and skyrocket you to max level. Yet they are adding a further 4th difficulty and wasting development time to cater to 2%.
My post's point was that Blizzard has shown that they are willing to cut out portions of the potential buyers (online only) to pursue the path they want. D3 is much more casual friendly than D2 and because of that I think it is safe to assume the amount of players who continue to play it's content up till hell (Inferno may be a showstopper) will be much higher.

First, you should make sure to search for a topic before making a post about it.
I have the same topic posted here:
