My first opinion on the new Shadow set: looks cool, but Impale is all about single target - it needs synergy with other skills to deal with aoe (the FoK dagger is nice but imho not enough - also why i would wait 30 seconds between casts).
So, now Marauder is getting buffed in terms of damage multipliers and also Vengeance is included in the set bonus.
Plus it gets:
- new CA-improving xbow
- new belt that gives DH dmg reduction based on number of companions out.
I assume that the weapons of choice will be this and the new Dawn in OP - depending on theorycrafting we will have to cube either one and equip the other.
Well, yes, additional functionality is always fun. But the true deal with that could be easily sovled by removing Multishot from the Marauder skill list.
About the new Shadow set: i am very curious about the Impale dagger and the implications - especially if the hatred return procs only on the first target or not. If it procs on every target hit multiple time (meaning we get harted back for every target), the other more aoe-ish runes of UImpale suddendly become more interesting.
I'll likely be focused on a physical build (have to decide gem and some skill setup), but at least we can think about options before eventually dismissing them.
S6 with Impale - any rune and MFD-Grim Reaper will be a really good set up. Everything compliments each other well too, you're trying to continuously snipe the MFD'd target with the first hit of impale to spread massive damage, so you'll greatly benefit from the dagger's hatred return proc as well, if executed correctly that is.
I think this set has a ton of potential:
S6+grim reaper and impale dagger
S4+M4
S4+UE4
S2+UE2
S2+what ever mix of legendary/set items you want; just don't use impale or SP.
There's also the chakram sword coming: 1-1.4% dmg per point of hatred
You could use bola's with leonine cubed for grouping and CC
Demons demise will be great for easy and cheap AoE with no attention required, while you can focus on other things like sniping with impale
Am I the only person thinking that now Melee DH is a viable, even supported build, it's time for them to remove the Ranged weapon requirement from our generators?
I'm mostly saying this because I REALLY want to run Evasive Fire/Hardened on my Shadow Mantle DH :p.
Also, does anyone know how the new Chakram sword will interact with Shuriken Cloud? Will the damage update dynamically or snapshot?
Didn't know about the Chakram sword. Does anyone klnow if we can dual wield melee weapons or we're forced into 1h+quiver? Setup is getting more and more interesting.
I suppose the FoK dagger is not going to make it until it gets some reqork - damage stacks are really nice, but it takes 30 seconds to get full stacks while the skills has a relatively short cooldown. The Chakram sword (especially if we can use it as generator) provides a more reliable source of damage.

I'm sure someone will come up with a sweet spot on how many stacks to collect before using FoK to squeeze the most out it, otherwise, 30sec is a bit impractical and prone to forget in most cases - even if it has an indicator of some sort..

Yes, that's very likely the case.
I would just use it on cd, especially if we go with the cold rune for more uptime of the bonus armor buff or with the physical that doubles its damage on single target (standard aoe + 1 knife).
@Cachekit: while 1h+1h would be cool to have, having no quiver in offhand means no Chakram as generator.
Or better, we have currently 4 items that look good for the build - the two daggers, the sword and the Chakram quiver. And we have only 3 slots available.
EDIT: from the Blizzcon streams the DH available for testing had the dagger in mh and the chakram quiver in oh. No image of dualwielding melee weapons.
EDIT2: from the few things i've seen, and given how the DH skills scale, having the sword actually equipped may net more damage due to higher base damage. Also the quiver seems to me a no-brainer since Chakram generator will be really strong coupled with the sword.
The choice for me goes between the FoK and Impale dagger, with the former enhancing aoe and the latter focused on ST. I'd go with the FoK one, as ST seems to be pretty high already and you want to aoe down those GRs.
"Additionally, we're also allowing Demon Hunters to use melee weapons with quivers because the fantasy of this quick-moving assassin build is about speed, not walking around with a shield ;)" - John Yang
Ok, so I'll preface this by saying that I'm really interested in the melee demon hunter, and looking forward to what I anticipate will be a much more engaged play style than what we've seen heretofore (i.e. Marauder's Hide&Fire, UE Stand back and blast).
My one major concern at this point is that a DH can't dual wield, and the only off-hand we're allowed is a shield, for which we have no use. I'm of the opinion that in 2.4 a change be made so that DH can retain a quiver (i.e. Spines/Emimei's Duffel) regardless of what we have equipped as a weapon, or even better, we be allowed to DW 1-hand swords/daggers.
I haven't seen any mention by the Devs regarding a change to the basic DH mechanic, so I presume that we will be left with a "sword & board" but I think this is counter to the "assassin" style concept that Blizzard is going for with this Set.
Mod Edit: i moved you post since this discussion is happening here and doesn't need a new thread. Also the answer about what a melee DH will be able to equip is 2 posts above
Ok,
i'm going to make a recap for the DH related stuff the dev have announced at Blizzcon.
DH specific items:
Generic items that can be useful:
My first opinion on the new Shadow set: looks cool, but Impale is all about single target - it needs synergy with other skills to deal with aoe (the FoK dagger is nice but imho not enough - also why i would wait 30 seconds between casts).
They should shift the slots so that we could equip Shadow 6pc with MR 4pc and you'd have your AOE
So exciting news. I'm utterly done with stupid strafe dance and/or MS spam
I would like to see chakram 1h sword and quiver in action
there you have aoe and single target

Dunno if this is right place but from what if heard UE6 gets dmg boosted in 2.4 also for vengeance
shadowmantle defiantly looks like the strongest atm.
so mr 6pc + shadow 2pc + cubed dawn + Karlei's Point with impale/vengeance combo needs a serious test run XD
Don't think you can run mr6(if that is marauder you mean) and shadow2 since they got the same itemslots. Also vengeance requires a bow.
yea figeured out later - that was what I wished for in my previous post.. :/
vengeance is not an archery skill, it's under the tools section, I assume you have mixed it up with rain of vengeance?,8/
A crossbow related to Cluster Arrow is being rumored, so that might be the weapon for Marauder's Set anyway
I mixed them up yeah.

I hope the new Legendary Cluster Arrow weapon going to have RCR.

So far they have only confirmed that we can use:
1hand melee + Quiver
and
1hand melee + Shield
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/TastySouP-1157/career
I read it as 1h+quiver and NOT 1h+shield
Still not confirmed if we can go 1h+1h - i suppose that when PTR hits, someone will be there trying all this stuff
