I just leveled a hardcore charcter to 70 and a few paragon levels, not really any different to non-season really. It was fun to run through campaign fresh, but doing it softcore seems pointless unless you used some xp exploits to get to the top of the leaderboard. It's seems like the season was over within hours. I don't really see the point, it's just the same game with terrible gear for the vast majority of players who stood no chance of competing.
The next season will be a ghost town, unless there is some major incentive implemented.
You're just making convoluted excuses for people who are cheating. And yes, they are cheating and exploiting no matter how people try to dress it up as some sort of legitimate gameplay.
In fact I would have more respect for them if they just admitted they know it's an exploit and used it anyway. By lying to everyone and trying to pretend it's a valid play style, you're just insulting everyone who knows better.
Of course, I guess the cheaters and exploiters would actually have to admit to themselves what they are, and honestly, I don't think many of them are mature enough for that. (maturity has little to do with age).
To be fair, you or anyone else don't really get to decide whether it's cheating or not, Blizzard does. Just because you disagree with using those methods doesn't mean it's cheating.

I read an article about a guy who made 100k botting in a year, apparently Blizzard doesn't see that as cheating either, someone making 100k is not even grounds for investigation.

Not catching a botter doesn't equate to thinking botting is ok. On the other hand, Blizzard are well aware of the "exploits" that levelers use to level as quickly as possible. There's a significant difference here.
There is a reason why there isn't a leveling leaderboard. If you were serious about season, you would have leveled as the competitors did but instead you were left behind, maybe because you didn't know about it?
This reminds me when a World First Kill occurred in World of Warcraft, a bunch of players screaming at Blizzard because it happened too fast, too easy or whatever while they aren't even trying to get on top of the chart. Why - Do - You - Care? If you aren't into racing, play the game as you wish.
There is no point with this debate. We went through the same argument several months before, and the conclusion is that real competitive players have a rather different standards than "competitive" players who sets up arbitrary rules and call anyone who don't follow those imaginary rules to be cheating. As in any competitive (e-)sport, anything tournament legal is not cheating. Blizzard obviously found things people called "exploits" legal, so it is not cheating, end of story.
P.S. Even if Blizzard fixed all those "exploits", none of you here who call others cheating will have any shot at the leader board what-so-ever. Serious runner will simply find other efficient methods. Your mentality prevents you from doing the same, and goes with it your chance of glory. I know it sounds harsh, but that's the reality.
I think people take the game too seriously, after a long day I just like to play a game where I can escape into a world of fantasy and completely unplug from reality for an hour or two or occasionally three.
The only thing that truly disappoints me about this is the beta process.
There was significant feedback on this very issue (as well as others) and it went unaddressed. I don't necessarily care about these things because seasons are stupid anyway. But I do care that pages and pages and pages of feedback on this issue, and others, went unaddressed so they could push this fucking patch out sooner.
Whomever thought of the trials should be punched directly in the taint until they bleed out the nose. Goddamn.

Yeah I agree with this. To be honest it seems people want Blizzard to force everyone down to their level. It's like if they capped APM on Starcraft to 20 so everyone plays at the same level, it's ridiculous. Then people would complain they can't reach 20 APM.
Everyone had access to the methods the top 1000 did but chose a different path. The same exact thing happened every season in D2, top players will exploit any little thing to gain an advantage. This is how anything competitive works. If it isn't a high reward bounty it'll be something else to complain about.

"Chance of glory"
Oh brother... Diablo 3 doesn't take skill, it requires the ability to play without sleep. It requires a person to be a 100% gambling addict and someone that wants to do nothing but play one game all day for 15-20 hours a day. I would know i was a top player in D2 and during the first 6 months of POE.
Stop acting like it takes skill to be good at D3 or any rpg. You simply figure out the best way to do something and play ten times more than everyone else.

If they don't think there is a "chance of glory", when why are certain people decrying over others who got that chance? Just let them "exploit" whatever there is to be exploited, and leave them be. Just to be clear, I did not race for the leader board, since I simply don't have the time nor dedication to do so.
Adventure mode was one of the best things to happen to Diablo 3 taking it away for your silly reason doesn't make any sense. Had they required you to complete the campaign first all that would happen would be that those speed leveling up to 70 would face roll the campaign on normal mode in like less than an hour and move on to the optimal power leveling in adventure mode after that. Probably would have only added 20-30 min tops to their overall time.
There is nothing stopping you from re-running the campaign again and again to your hearts content.
I rolled a HC (first time HC) and doing the campaign. I am not expecting to be on the leaderboards but I am enjoying redoing the campaign as a HC character. Leveling is fine in the campaign (I swear they have added some side quests too) I honestly burnt myself out with doing rifts over and over again on my main.
This thread is full of people who are a perfect example of what I was talking about in my last post.
Are they really? Or are you just that ignorant that you actively refuse to listen to any kind of reasoning that people are providing?
Did you make this thread to have a discussion about this topic or did you just create it to tell us about your view and disregard anything anyone else has to say because it's not what you want to hear?
What you're basically saying is "They're a bunch of hackers and exploiters and they should be banned". In your last post you put "You're just making convoluted excuses for people who are cheating. And yes, they are cheating and exploiting no matter how people try to dress it up as some sort of legitimate gameplay." Which is basically saying you don't care what anyone else has to say because you've already made up your mind.
You have to be open-minded about this kind of thing mate, if you come onto a public forum expecting people to share the same view and opinions as you then you're going to have a bad time. There's plenty of valid and reasonable posts in this thread that point out some very discussion-worthy points. Don't be rude and dismiss them.
Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"

I don't necessarily agree with the guy you were talking to, but I will make the following point...
When they announced BoA Josh was pretty headstrong about how killing monsters should be the most rewarding way to play the game. Therefore, if he really meant that, it follows that principle should guide the entire game design. People leveling by specifically NOT killing monsters, but completing bounties on difficulties way too high for them, just because that's the best XP available rather breaks that general philosophy.
Now, as I said before, I don't really give two rats asses anymore... but being as this was brought up during the beta and they didn't address it, I am slightly irked because it feels like something that should have been fixed to be in-line with their previous stance on how we (generally speaking) should be playing the game was left unaddressed so they could rush the patch to us. That just doesn't sit well with me.
As for the people using the "exploit" I really could care less. I just want some consistency from the developers and I want them to stop bending to deadlines. This patch, more than any other, has felt like it was more based on some deadline from the higher-ups than the previous "It's ready when it's ready" that we'd gotten used to. And that irritates me.

You see that point you make there is a good one. The reason I was drilling OP was mostly for the lack of a legitimate reason as well as the other reasons I posted in that reply. It just annoyed me that they were giving us 2 sentence long posts on why they had their opinion and then addressed they didn't care what anyone thought of it, that their opinion was better than anyone else therefore anything anyone else said was dismissed.
I don't particularly have a concern with this issue because I just play the game at my own pace, but the info that you've shared definitely gives people a reason to be upset and frustrated that something like this has happened.
I think the patch definitely has some great aspects to it and introduced some great new features and overall I think it's quite a good step for Diablo, hopefully the content they push out in future is just as good. But of course the fact that people are abusing this "exploit" shows us quite a few things in regards to the developers (or all those involved in ironing out such things before it launches) or development cycle;
- They knew of this problem and decided that it wasn't really an issue, it didn't have that much of an impact on the seasons an leaderboards.
- They knew it existed and (as you've stated above) couldn't get the time to fix it due to time constraints.
- They didn't know it existed (probably the worst of these points as it shows they didn't explore potential "exploits")

LOL, closing the barn door after the horse has run out, knocked up the neighbors horse and burned down their house...
Now what was that some of you were saying about valid and legitimate playstyle?
It was legitimate, more legitimate than faking injury is legitimate in football/soccer. If not, It's obviously not intended, but that does not make it invalid.
And yes, Blizzard is rather...... slow on the subject. This was known during the PTR.

... actually, I don't give a crap. I'm enjoying the hell out of a shiny new character who's broke, gemless and shardless. Screw Blizzard, I guess.
