Does anyone else feel that the inability to press an F(1,2,3, etc) button to bind a skill to a mouse button is a serious offense? It seems like MANY of the skills in D3 require some sort of aiming, e.g. leap attack, teleport and many may others...
If you have only 2 skills available to your mouse, you basically have to just hope that the direction you are facing is good enough to get that skill you wanted to aim accomplished.
Example:
Barb using Frenzy on M1 and Whirlwind on M2.
I want to leap attack right into the center of a pack of enemies but I have to just guestimate where I will land. Aim my barb at the enemies and press leap attack. I am really surprised I have not seen a lot of hate about it so far.
Don't really understand what you're saying. Bind extra skills to mouse 3/4/5/6?
In diablo 2 you could assign one of the F keys, like F1, F2 etc to make any skill go to your right mouse button. So you could say, bind leap to F1, and Whirlwind to F2. You hit F1, right click to leap attack, you hit F2, right click to Whirlwind.
What are you talking about ? If you press 1 the skill goes in the direction your mouse is at (arcane orb) OR where your mouse is actually at (leap attack).
I really dont understand your problem.
F keys system like D2 is inferior, using a skill (not already affected to a MB) required 2 actions instead of 1 now.
It sounds like he's saying he can't push skills on his keyboard and land where he wants to which doesn't make sense. Maybe he can make it clearer for us when he replies.
edit: so you're complaining that you can only use 6 skills at a time? You can change skills in combat but it will put a cooldown on it. Anyway with the release 17 hours away I'm too excited to complain about something like that I just want to play already!!!
Would also like to point out that after they introduced synergies with 1.10 you realistically didn't have more than 6 useful skills anyway so it's not really any different. Hammerdin was alternating between teleport and concentration aura (not including any buffing etc)
The more you play, the more proficient you will be with it.
I had similar qualms when I started playing HoN/DotA. I was never any good at navigating the map with my mouse let alone microing my units when I played Starcraft back in the day. Now I'm a seasoned pro at HoN/DotA. You'd be surprised how quickly you learn.
There's a skill in these games called "Orbing" where you move, then attack, then move, then attack. Already having the skill from DotA/HoN will be very useful for me in D3, but to be honest it wasn't the hardest thing to learn. Practice makes perfect broski.
My mouse has 7 butons. L / R / skill 1 / skill 2 / skill 3 / skill 4 / potion.
I won't experience the issue that you're explaing, though even if I didn't have a mouse that fits the game perfecty, it wouldn't be an issue... the spell goes where your pointer is, same as if you were to have clicked your mouse.
i played Path of Exile Beta (yes hate me for that - i dont care) and there they have excatly the same control.
2 mouse skills and X with keyboard.
nobody should hate you for playing PoE. that game was a good diversion while waiting for d3. it's a good game in its own right. not as good as d3 (in my opinion) but still good.
of course i find the graphics in that game appalling and the overall polish of the combat (while good) doesn't hold a candle to d3. d3 is on another level entirely.
i find it sad that the majority of poe players are just embittered d2 vets who can't see the forest past the trees with d3. they played the beta and judged the entire game off of it. they're blinded by their hatred for blizzard (which is, in my opinion, entirely unfounded).
Blizzard does not meet basic quality standards. The hotkey system is extremely limited and does not include versatile options, 'nor does it include the previous D2 hotkey system in any form, which is blasphemous for anyone used to that.
They just don't want you to switch like that and what you to use THEIR system no matter what you like or are used to, even if they very easily could.

What key system would you use ?
D2 system ? Its inferior.

On most D2 builds you rarely had to switch skills. I mostly used the F keybinds to use town portal. Did anyone ever use more than a couple of the F-keys on a consistant basis?

But if you are, I agree, I would at least like the option to use this system.

So how would you select which runes you want with the old system?
The thing is pressing a key AND then a mouse button is worse than having to press one key.
I'm not sure why anyone would want them to give you the option to use a less efficient system. Just adapt and you will never go back. It's like people healing without mouseovers in WoW (and have to click their target first before hitting a key or MB), its just not efficient.

You do know you can change every single keybind to every game commands. Just go in keybind menu and put everything how you like it, problem solved.

Adapting to change is the key to progress.
You sound like General Motors and Toyota when they scrapped their electric car technologies (EV1 and RAV4) because everyone "was used to" internal combustion engines, and the change to pure electric would be too jarring.
Blizzard has looked at the big picture, and have determined that the previous hotkey system of D2 is old an inefficient, and have changed it in favor of the system we have now in D3. To use my analogy: Blizzard has dumped the internal combustion engines for electric, because it's more efficient.
Seriously, SFJake, if you really want to keep using the D2 hotkey system, then go play D2, and leave D3 to me and all the other people who understand that the changes Blizzard have made are for the better...

I did not realize that, and that is very pleasing to hear. Thanks.
