I've just been seeing a lot of people saying that champion packs or uniques are going to drop the best loot and as far as I can uderstand the Nephalem Valor post, thi isn't true.
I read it as, Bosses will still drop the best loot, but they will drop better and more loot if you have full stacks of Nephalem Valor which you get from killing Champion Packs (who also drop good loot).
If there has been a more recent update, or if I'm reading it wrong please let me know.
Best loot might also be a misleading, since it's been said you have a chance to get the best loot from a barrell. So I guess best chance of loot is a better expression.
Anything in the game can drop the best item (including ashes and barrels). The chance that it drops from a champion or elite is much greater. Bosses for a long time were not going to be worth killing but Nephalem Valor will make the boss drop more items equal to a elite based on the number of stacks you have. So presumably if you have 5 NephVal stacks you will get 5 random items equal to an elite kill rarity chance.
I'm personally guessing that stacking up Nephalem Valor to the max then rushing to kill the boss is going to be a popular tactic. If it's 5 stacks max you get 5 extra drops from boss with maxed out MF and they encourage this but discourage rushing the bosses directly.
For instance Skeleton King almost always dropped 2 magics on repeat kills, once in a rare while 1 or 3 but that was 1 in 10 chance. So with 5 stacks of Nephalem you'd get 7 magic drops buffed up by high MF.
This may be a stupid question but will you be able to view the status of your Nephalem Valor? i.e how many stacks you have?
I'd assume it'd be a buff on your character potrait. Stuff like debuffs, monk chakras, and other temporary buffs like frenzy, movement speed, or shrine buffs all appear there.
pretty sure the bonus loot is only applied on act bosses. don't know if it works on mini bosses such as SK.
I had the impression even stuff like SK counted. The idea being that the ideal way to run now is to jump to bosses like him, clear their dungeon earning neph val on the way, then kill the boss
So that the best way to go about it is to pick a dungeon you wanna go do, and do it.
The problem with understanding this system is that they haven't given us the details of it.. as in the specifics and examples.
It was also added in late into development and only activates at level 60, which means no one really has the 'correct' answer. I'm doubtful the strategy guides even have it listed. Maybe the premium one's online version will update, but only time will tell that one.
What about first kills of bosses, will nephalem valor make them drop even better items?
Quite possibly. It will likely drop guaranteed good loot for 1st time kill, and additional loot from NV.
But remember you'll have to be 60 to get NV buff, so this will likely only apply in Hell and Inferno depending on your progress by the time you hit 60.

And with Nephalem Valour stacked (this is important), their drop improves to the point where it's similar to champions/rares.
