I can't see how it could fail, they set themselves in a good position with this plan since ebay stopped selling. now they get micro transactions... from every single transfer, i dare say they had some top analysts look into this. But yes it won't fail, how successful it will be is yet to be seen though, i am just thankful that sweatshops in China won't be selling on the US RMAH.
I can't really say that i hate MMO's, the only reason i am against Diablo being turned into n outright MMO is it moulding into a WOW skin thanks to WOW's financial success... Diablo is definitely still it's own beast for the time being.
Diablo 3 is not an MMO ....
You dont pay a monthly fee,
You can have more than one of the same name on the Server
IT DOESNT FOLLOW the standard MMO recipee. The Chat is not a major function of the game, an MMO is a glorified chat room.
It looks like WOW only because thats the style Blizzard goes for in its games. I played WOW and I don't see anything resembling rather than the way the art is rendered.
The only reason for the internet connection is for DMR and RMAH purposes only...
why do people still think its an MMO when they have stated themselves its not....
Actually interacting with other players through chat, using your skills to heal, buff them and debuff other mobs, trading with them, pvping with them makes this a MMO game.
Whoever doesnt think Diablo 3 is a MMO either works in marketing or has their head in the sand.
Huskers, note, i said Diablo was still it's own beast for the time being... I didn't say that Diablo 3 was an MMO at all, just stating i fear the Diablo series heading there.
Played Diablo 1 from release, even online. Good times... I remember the first public game I entered, immediately got dropped the heavenly armor set from someone who duped it ;D And the fountain was surrounded by pools of money.
Haha remember cycling my old Pentium 200 to a mates house 14kms(yep metric you filthy imperials) just to ip/link Diablo, did the same with Diablo 2 in high school, ah the good old days living in the country.
I've started playing Diablo 2 somewhere in 2004, fell in love with the game, and have since had it on each of my hard drives. And I know a whole bunch of people irl who played the original game and are freaking excited about D3, even though they may not be active here or anywhere else on the forums for that matter.
Fear not, there are many like us, out there, waiting. Because no true fan ever forgets. No true fan ever grows too old.

While you guys worry about who is or who is not a true diablo fan, I'll just be over here in the corner contemplating about things that actually matter.
PS my dad can beat up your dad, I have a 3 foot long member, I own 9 cars, a mansion, two cottages and a beach house, and sleep with a model wife.
Or maybe they stay off these forums. I may be wrong but after being on this site for a couple of years and playing the beta since January, it feels like there are ALOT of WOW ans SC2 players and new diablo players buzzing around d3, in-game and out. There's nothing wrong with that but most of the complaints about D3 come from them. I keep seeing questions and topics being made and thinking to myself "Really? Have they even played D2?". I remember back in the day when people were drooling over just to get a Bonesnap Maul for their barb and when Magic Arrow was a nuclear bomb. has Diablo lost fans?
From what i have read it seemed that most complaints were actually coming from hardcore d2 vets, who don't like change.
I don't know why this has to be said, but playing WoW does not have anything to do with how big of a Diablofan you are. I played D2 from the time i got the battlechest with d1+d2, at maybe 12 years old, to now, i'm 20. I finished the game from start to finish hundreds of times, started dozens of characters and spend untold hours in baal runs and farming A1 pits.. I know a lot of people will have played more than me, but i am certain that i am a legit Diablo fan. I ALSO played WoW from launch until late in Cataclysm's life cycle. I love both games for diifferent reasons.
I get what you mean about some people's complaints though, and IMO people just need to trust Blizzard. They know more about game development than the players do, and sometimes people need to realise that sometimes what initially feels weird or different, is better in a tested environment

Fans are here, but like myself I go through stages of activity. Basically at my office I've designed most of the assets needed for next month which leaves me with some time to come on and see what is cooking. I would imagine, much like other Diablo fans, we're all adults now and busy with life.
Neither D3 nor these forums has lost their true fans. We're here, but many of us just become sick of the bitching and whining on these forums from people that might not be as true of fans as the diehards.
I've spoken to a few people belonging to these forums that simply don't post anymore because they get sick of the stupidity / noobness of people that aren't diehards. I agree from time to time, and tend to troll some of the stupidity, but at the heart of it I'm still here and posting because I absolutely love the game.
I may initially disagree with some of the Blizz decisions, but ultimately I know that they will put out a top quality game and that I will absolutely love it.
Since it took them 500 years to develop it, the older players have since gone on to other things, grown out of gaming, have other responsibilities etc.
<raises hand> I was 28 when I discovered Diablo I, and a couple years later, bought D2 when it was new, then played LOD after that.
I'm 42 now, and I'm still here, waiting patiently. From what I've seen of the beta, it's going to be very much worth it.
As the one guy said, there's a lot of stupid BS thrown around on this forum. Many of the 'concerns' I see, I call whining. If you want to play it, play it. If you don't want to play it in the form it is, don't buy it. Simple. If you think Blizzard is stupid or evil, don't buy their games. I make my own decisions about who is bad or not.
Internet connection? No problem, I've had a live connection since 1998 or so.
Money? I have a job and a life. Pocket change.
RMAH? Optional, makes no difference to me.
Free Time? I don't watch TV. I game. Easy.
So, yeah, I'm an old fan, but, these forums aren't exactly a fun place for someone at my stage in life. Too much wasted time and words on piddly bullshit that doesn't amount to anything.
I imagine this is probably how people felt when D2 was about to be released.
That was a 3.5 year dev cycle, using the fake 3d renders just like the previous title, made more or less by the same team in the same place, back before Blizzard literally revenued a billion+/year. So, no.

I doubt they have, most fans don't come onto forums like this before the game is even released, games have become more and more mainstream since WoW was released, so there are quite a few people here that came straight from WoW/SC2.
Most of the people i played Diablo 2 with don't care about visiting forums, at least not until D3 is out and they have played it for a few weeks.
I don't see what a Diablo series fan can complain about when it comes to Diablo 3, it stays true to the series and the series has evolved quite a bit per game, i just replayed the first Diablo game a few weeks ago, and boy... after playing the beta for Diablo 3 this was a huge step backward, no skills (except for spells), gameplay was quite boring and so slow paced, but the music and the game mood was great, Diablo 3 is everything i could have hoped for the series, most players that have played the beta and are familiar with the series will tell you the same
People don't go walking around saying there a diablo fan... cmon be realistic, if your a fan your a fan. You don't need to have 10,000 posts on a fan forum just to prove it.
I consider myself a true Diablo fan. I was introduced to Diablo in 2000 I think, and it was the only game I really played for years. Hell, I remember playing the original Diablo on the Playstation! Even when I started playing WoW I still played Diablo II when I needed to change things up a bit. To me the game never lost it's fun, I guess because there was so much you could do with your characters, and it took a lot of time. Also, I really like killing waves and waves of monsters.

You have no idea how keen I am for D3
