Well I think as they said in blue post, every class "feels imba", tho from my experience wizard is the weakest. But ofc gotta keep in mind lvl 13 is nowhere near the end.
Barbarian and Monk are I think the most faceroll classes. Also gotta add the new class (fury/mana/hatred etc.) systems are very cool!
My first impressions were the same as any other ARPG that I've played. I've played just about every one from D2 to Torchlight and everything in between. The genre isn't as flooded as MMOs or FPS based games which is great in my book. D3 felt pretty smooth even though there was some server lag but that was a given since probably thousands played the open beta. Even though I felt pretty powerful early on, it didn't take away from the fun and simplistic gameplay.
Graphics
Huge debate on this. I think it's personal preference. Some say it's not dark/Gothic enough. Some say it's too cartoon like. Personally I think the graphics are great. The different effects of skills may be a little to colorful for my liking but it really doesn't take away from the fun I am having massacring the mobs in D3
Classes
Each class has it's own identity that might cater to most individuals playstyle.
Barbarian - Probably the most balanced in how this class progresses. The diversity is staggering already even at level 13. It's a melee class so you want to be in the midst of things and he has to the tools to do it. I am one that doesn't play melee classes in RPGs but the Barb is tons of fun. Leap, cleave, rend, rinse and repeat. SO much fun. And that is just 1 build.
Demon Hunter - The Demon Hunter was one of the class that didn't impress me from what I've seen. After playing them in D3, they are pretty fun though i think they have to many defensive skills in the first 13 levels. Caltrops is very useful but you also get vault, Smoke screen and preparation. These skills can be effective I guess but that remains to be seen since the mob levels are pretty low when you are at level 13. All in all aside from too many defensive/Dodge skills this class looks interesting now. Wish there were more offensive skills to work with.
Monk - Probably the most underrated class in D3. The monk was the first class I tried. Even though it's a melee oriented class, I like the balance of attack and defensive survivability. Right from the start I can see the potential for the monk for soloing and group support. My favorite skill is Deadly reach. Could be a good primary attack with a mid-ranged style of play. Will be interesting to see some of the later skills. Many skills require tons of spirit to spend so the balance of spirit gathering and spending should be quite interesting.
Witch Doctor - The class I will play 1st. Though it's no necromancer, I like the style this class could bring to the Diablo universe. The only thing I dislike about the class that it doesn't seem like it will be a true pet class which I will miss from the necromancer. Zombie dogs are frail, do pathetic damage even with a decent weapon equipped. Most of the time I use Darts and Grasp of the dead along with Firebats and soul Harvest. The damage output with those skills in this beta is awesome. Leaves using Zombie dogs useless. Even so the there could be a useful pet build , that might be until the later levels of WD play however, I would like to experience that much earlier. That also brings me to another frustrating aspect of D3 skill system which I will convey later.
Wizard - I thought I would like this class better than the DH but In actuality, it's reversed. The skills that I have in the beginning doesn't seem to give me that impressive all powerful sorcerer feeling I did in D2. I can't put my finger in it. It seems I'm kiting more with the wizard than the DH. Anyway the wizard moved to the bottom of the list as far as the order I will play the classes.
Class progression, diversity and potential customization
I have to say one thing the customization is remarkable. No doubt there will be many different varieties of builds out there for all the classes. I was skeptical at first but once I reached level 13 the different play-styles/builds are staggering. The rune effects for each skill is a marvelous addition when it was first announced however The fact that each rune skills are hand fed to you at certain levels is the most frustrating thing for me.
I would like to experience these builds much earlier than say level 50 or 60 when you are in nightmare or hell. It's a shame that you have to be at max level in order to experience the build you envisioned either by using the skill calculators or looking at skills in general. On the other hand most may want to experience something new at each level and experiment as they go. The ability to customize or respec is great but I'm not sure it will promote re-playability If you want to play again. I'm one that would like to be unique from the getgo rather than change on the fly to the optimal build.
The WD is one of those classes that I would like to play a caster/support or pet style class and stick to those styles of play. I'm not sure I want to experience the same hand fed progression in the early levels to experience The 'other' build. so re playability seems put on the back burner. I did try that in the beta with the WD but Zombie dogs and some of the other skills the WD has from 1-13 seems lackluster when compared to the Darts Grasp of the dead along with Firebats soul Harvest combo. 1 of the fewere classes I find that diversity isn't as apparant as the Barb or Monk. It's there but I steered clear of any type of pet build because they didn't seem to work. Doesn't change the fact that I will play the WD first the caster gameplay is so much more fun than the wizrd which to me was the most dissapointing class in beta.
But I guess that is the beauty of D3 at the moment. You can play the game however you want whose to say you can't make 2 of the same class. Some player will..... some wont. Some like the fact that skills and rune skills are hand fed to you.... some don't. Some think there is class customization....... some don't. it's all how you perceive it.
Overall
I'm surprised that I have not not pre-purchased D3 yet. I think it's more the fact that funds are tight for me right now. But I intend to. It's clear that Blizzard has taken the franchise in a new and interesting direction. The game feels great! It's fun, the Classes are unique and varied, the customization staggering.
I actually can't wait to see what they have in store for the expansion aside from 3 new classes. I know .........3? Well many want a necromancer style class and some paladin variant. Perhaps a beast-master/druid style class? Or something new altogether. Hopefully they have interesting additions to the skill/rune system. Maybe more skill runes for each class when they inevitably increase the level cap. Thanks for the opportunity Blizz. Too bad we can't play the beta till May 1st but I should be doing other things than sitting at the computer giving my impressions.
My thoughts on the Beta: This is awesome.
My thoughts on my friends being able to play the Beta: oh god please no
What a jerkface!
Don't get me wrong I really don't mind that they're playing it, but it's the constant talking about it and how they know 'everything' about it that annoys me.
EDIT: I am a jerkface! but mainly only to them.
Don't worry. You're automatically better than everyone else for being one. Join the Club. I'm the Vice President and Bashiok is the President, because ironically he acts like he knows more than anyone else.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I really enjoyed the beta levelled every class to 13, must say i found wizard the most fun and will most likely be my choice for the launch. My only complaint would be is now i have chronic d3 blue balls. I feel like Cartman waiting for the nintendo wii, anyone want to help me freeze myself to pass the time?
- The new skill system is actually great, I can see myself using different builds in different scenarios
- Combat was tight and didn't get old
- Generally fun
Things I didn't like
- Pretty much every item except shields, pots, gems and belts take up two vertical spaces in the inventory, meaning virtually no more tetris-playing management which is a shame.
Demon Hunter: I was very disappointed in this class. no AoE at all, low damage, very poor snares (caltrops centers on you like frost nova but doesn's freeze enemies, it's radius isn't as big as a witch doctor's grasping hands, and it doesn't slow as much as the other snares as well). With such poor AoE and crowd control, you'd think this class would be great 1 on 1, but that's not the case either. Single target damage is terrible. You play this class by running away a LOT. Not fun. It's like a combination of all of the worst parts of the assassin and the bowazon from D2. Rage and Discipline don't really work well either. They play completely unrelated. Why not have one go up as the other goes down, forcing a mix of attacks? instead they both diminish separately, and there's a third class of attacks for rage generation. Lame.
So, you know that there are more abilities in the retail version than in the beta? DH gets a ton of AoE abilities (look at Multishot, Elemental Arrow for starters) and CC (Caltrops, Fan of Knives, Entangling Shot, Stunning Grenades are a few off the top of my head). Did you try Chain Gang on Entangling Shot? It's a spammable hatred generator that snares up to 4 enemies every time. The effectiveness of Caltrops, as opposed to something like Grasping Hands, is that it has no cooldown, and the snare is applied to all enemies that stand in its radius. You can drop 3 caltrops in a line while running away, and enemies have to walk through all 3 to get to you.
Single target damage? Did you try Impale, spammable 250% weapon damage with an early rune that stuns most of the time? Or Rapid Fire, a huge single-target damage channeling attack? The idea of 2 separate resources is not that bad if you get the feel of it. Hatred for attacks, Discipline for defense/utility. Pretty simple. If one went down while the other goes up, you wouldn't be able to do a mix of attacks. You would have to stand there and shoot, then wait for Discipline to drop Caltrops of Vault away.
You're entitled to your opinions, but I'm trying to show you that DH actually is a very fun and effective class, who can do anything, from clearing mobs in no time, dropping massive CC, to huge single target damage etc.
I'm really glad that you enjoyed the DH. For me, it was probably the class I was most excited about coming into the beta (since I'm a die-hard amazon player for D2), and I felt that it was just not nearly as effective as the other classes. Even with a very high damage crossbow, I felt like monsters lived for 2-3 times as long as when I fought with my not as well geared wizard or monk. once I got the wizard comparable gear, she was 1-shotting almost everything, and the DH was still attacking, snaring, running, attacking again to try and kill things.
Chain gang was cool, but doesn't do enough damage. I simply could not use it until my friend showed me how to assign any skill to any button (terrible design, btw, blizz, hiding that option) so that I could use chains and Impale at the same time. As for rapid fire, which looked cool and sounded cool, it didn't kill anything for me. I would literally burn through 100% of my rage on a single, normal zombie, and it wouldn't die. Ineffective ability, however cool looking, is still ineffective. Comparing the DH skills to similar skills from other classes (ray of frost outshines rapid fire by a wide margin, grasp of the dead outperforms caltrops in every way), he left me feeling weak.
And the last straw for me was, as I said, that the dual-resource system just doesn't feel good to me. The two resources are totally unrelated, the abilities I used from them aren't particularly complimentary, and there's no positive re-inforcement for me to mix up my skills to use both resources. I'm sure all of that will change later in the game, but at level 13, he simply did not impress me. I really feel like the other 4 classes were distinct in their play and abilities, whereas the DH feels like a hybrid mish-mash of random skills, resources, and playstyle. It's very possible that I simply don't "get" the class, and that if I watch a youtube video of some DH master playing, I'll learn what I was doing wrong, but the way he seemed intended to be played just didn't work for me.
Here are my thoughts: Graphics: This is disappointing. The whole thing is too cartoony. I wanted it to be a lot more realistic and dark. As in almost horrifying, yet the textures on the items are so bad... It would even be bad for a 5 year old game. I don't think this should pass in 2012.
I am a graphic whore I love to run everything on ultra and I do spend the money on it. I do understand that not everything can have graphics like Serious Sam 3 or The Witcher 2, but DAMN it's 2012. At least put in some AA, so I don't have to look at the jaggedy edges. Characters: I only tried out 3 of the classes. The Barb, very satisfying and powerful, a joy to play. Cleaving through enemies with dual wield weapons and bleeding them out. Loved it. The Mage, *yawn* not even going to waste time with this boring as hell. Mind you I never liked casters, and this is just weak. The Monk, a bit strange in the first levels, but after you get used to it it is similarly good, but not as much as the Barb. I don't like it that the weapons I equip are out when I run, but disappear when I start attacking.
If I ever buy this game I will surely main a Barbarian. I like smashing faces. Gameplay: Fun for some time, but I didn't get the same feel as I did with D2. It's the same grind grind grind. The story isn't very compelling either, but wasn't expecting much. The physics is great, I spent a great deal just smashing the furniture and walls to pieces, and the zombies getting splattered all over the floor was nice to watch. Sound: The music was ... ok, nothing special. They tried to mimic the music from D1 with new tristram, but yeah... I'm not 12 anymore so a nice tune on acoustic guitar is not enough for me. The menu sound effects are nice, most of the attacks have nice sounds but some of them felt weak (especially on the Mage).
And now with numbers: Graphics: 2/5 Gameplay: 3.5/5 Sound: 3/5 Overall: 3/5
Will I buy it?
Not for 60 euros, but for 30 surely.
D3 BETA was the most awfull thing, im still waiting for the final game.
By the way Blizzard are losing a lot of quality in gameplay, SCBW was brilliant demanding game that did KOREA the capital of "E-SPORTS" they change the vision of videogames....SC2 its OK too easy even for casual-noob players they still have time to fix this with HOTS or next expansion, Diablo2 was epic with his original colors, gothic STYLE, gore...D3 looks like another OK but not impressed, there are lot of games with that shinny shitty color style,....ppl need to be more demanding with blizz new games, remember one game StarCraft did in SOUTH KOREA...if your pleased with D3 Beta style you are mediocre!! who never playhard D2
I was absolutely stoked when the free beta weekend came around.
Experience wise i thought the game would run slightly better, but I am playing a laptop.
Out of all the characters Barbarian was the best for me, probably because it reminded me so much of DIablo II. Really loved some of the skills i got to use, such as leap and the 'GET OVER HERE' dealy.
Before the beta I wasn't even interested in D3... Then a friend (who's in love with the diablo-franchise) asked should we try some co-op.
Ten hours later he had to log off to go to work and I was hooked.
This almost exactly. I got a beta invite and a friend of mine told me I had to try it. I hadn't really been following it up to that point, but after playing for about an hour, I was a veritable vacuum cleaner sucking up everything Diablo 3 related that I could. 3 months later, I co-host a blog, a podcast and a livestream dedicated entirely to D3.
Hate on me for not playing the first two, but I'm going to be playing this game for a long time to come.
Beta? what beta? there's no beta? you don't know me! get out of my room!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
I enjoyed the beta. I played through twice as a Demon Hunter and really enjoyed the story. Leah is adorable and the male DH voice actor is really good. It's nice that Diablo III gives you the opportunity to bring down the Skeleton King one last time. The beta was also a nice opportunity to see how well Diablo III runs on my computer. All in all the beta just made me that much more hyped for the full game.
they specifically said the beta was to do a stress test on the servers. That's why anyone with a battle.net account was allowed to play the beta. This wasn't a free trial or a demo, that beta test was for stress testing only.
anyone that keeps repeating that the beta was too short all your doing is verifying the level of your intelligence.
and i started trying to read lord_jarohs thoughts on the beta but yes it was too nit picky and i had to stop reading it. I think blizzard is correct in saying they can try to make a game to please as many people as possible but there's always gonna be those that think the way they envisioned the game is the right way. SO sorry lord_jaroh i read a few of your excerpts but your wall of text probably covers every little issue you have with the game and not just the main points, i tried though.
personally i enjoyed the beta. I think too many people are stuck in D2 nostalgia or still in WoW mode. I like not having to press a button 200 times to bump a stat up. If you want to be unique then go ahead and pick the skills and runes that no one uses and make them work. i've seen a number of pretty interesting builds so far that many "Cookie-cutter-crazed" wow fan-boys think will never work because they think they've seen the 1 and only build that will work in inferno and that's the only way you can play. So far i've been messing around with the barb skill calc only and have come up with atleast 5 different builds that are different in playing style that theoretically can work in inferno and those are the practical ones. I just think too many people are stuck in this nostalgia that will ruin the game for themselves. Diablo 3 is a different game, start getting used to the idea, and start getting used to the fact that it's not what you envisioned. The game comes out in less then 4 days. If your like me and you've been waiting for over 10 years for this game. Then open your mind and don't ruin it for yourself. Judge it after you play it with an open mind.
I have been in the beta since it started. What is there is awesome, but I was sadly disappointed with how little content there was. It felt more like a biref demo than an actual beta. But, like I said, it looks great and was a ton of fun to play. Glad I got to be a part of it.

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."

See my sig for my thoughts on the Beta.

anyone that keeps repeating that the beta was too short all your doing is verifying the level of your intelligence.
and i started trying to read lord_jarohs thoughts on the beta but yes it was too nit picky and i had to stop reading it.
