There is a debate going around on which is better and I will try to give a few pros and cons on each, this will a semi short list.
First I'd like to state that neither of them are a necessity and will otherwise ruin your end game unless you are with friends also they are only there for fun.
Magic Find:
Pros: A small % chance of finding better gear.
Allows you to sit back and enjoy the loot.
Will help later on when it comes to RMAH. Only improves quanitity not quality Gear all your character quicker.
Cons: Lose out on stats that would increase your damage. You will be paying Blizzard to sell all your new gear.
Hard to measure how effective it is.
Does not improve loot quality. People will hate you for this and most likely kick you.
Gold Find:
Pros: A small % increase in gold drops.
Overtime will help with professions.
Will help with repairs.
Very noticeable gold drop differences. Can also be sold on the RMAH.
Cons:
Lose out on stats that would increase your damage.
You will die more with less defensive gear.
No real con to this other then what is stated above.
If anyone has any other Pros and Cons post in this thread and I will update this post.
Pre-inferno, I see no reason to pick magic find over gold find. It seems the BS makes gear that is the best out there anyways. So if you have a high GF, you can just buy blues from the vendors, DE them and turn them into good BS gear.
When you farm end game content, sure, MF is probably better. Up until that point, GF is far superior. And GF might even be better in inferno as well, unless you are a barbarian with your obsidian runed shout.
Magic find is like the lottery. Gold find is more of a "sure thing. With magic find you have a chance (a low chance) to get that item you always wanted to drop. With gold find you can collect more gold and in turn sell it on the auction house for the item you want or for cash. Then with that cash, you can buy that item you always wanted. There's benefits to both sides. I think the biggest thing is to see how useful gold will be in the game. It was useless in Diablo 2, but they keep telling us it's going to be a big part of Diablo 3. I just hope it doesn't get super inflated.

Gold is extremely useful in Diablo 3, it helps with Artisans/Professions, repairing, potion buying, and Followers..also I would doubt if they add a Greed in there somewhere...maybe he became one of Azmodans Lords..lawl
I think it's more for solo players. if it only benefits yourself in a teamwork, I think at least you won't be the short board when you equip MF or GF items.
I think we are actually going to have to wait until the itemlist for Inferno difficulty is going to be published. Well, that and how much is gold going to be actually worth. Also, we are going to have to wait to see actually how difficult Inferno difficulty is going to be, since you can supposedly only find the best gear in that difficulty. Another factor will be how much exactly the MF gear is going to tax your offensive and defensive abilities because if you can't go fifty steps without getting slaughtered then MFing is going to be very counterproductive. The same principle applies to GF, because if you die a lot and are going to be spending more on repairs than you can actually find then GF gear is going to be just as (if not more) counterproductive as MF gear. The only way I can really see GF gear being effective is if you use it in lower difficulties, but that of course depends how difficult Inferno is actually going to be.
Magic find will give you greater possibilities for better loot, gold find will give you more gold. GF is a very efficient stat and as such, will most likely be better then MF for pure $ reasons until a while after the release. Once the gold market is flooded enough, MF will be more valuable, since inflation will hit gold harder then items.
So many things people are theory crafting on that simply cant be finished until the game is released and we have time to put gear sets together.
Having said that, in beta Ive already planned to make one Magic Find character, one Gold Find Character, one PvP Character, one PvE Character upon release day, is my plan anyways.
I think the main question is whether gold farmers or item farmers are going to hit the AH harder. Since it is probably easier to get a bot to farm gold, I'm guessing gold farmers will be much more prevalent. This means that by using MF gear, you can find some items and sell them for a ton of gold (due to the inflation that gold farmers will bring). If bots are nearly impossible to make, or if its easy for farmers to get items and not gold, then the opposite would be true.
I would of course go with Gold find the entire way. Magic find only mean you will find magic it does not say it will be epic loots just that you will find more magic. I would think that the gold would be better the entire way through all levels.
Neither, I'll grab the optimal setup for killing as efficiently as possible which will triumph over these stats. If I had to pick one as a fourth affix or something I'd go MF. Money is easy enough to generate items not as much.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
As far as I know MF only increases the number of magic items you will find. It does not change the quality of items you roll. You simply find more magic items. There is still a great element of chance to it.
Gold find however is different. It's always there. By applying GF bonuses your guaranteeing an increase in your wealth. Greater wealth means greater items and you will be able to even more effectively find items/gold with your better items.
I think the question becomes will gold really be worth that much? I think the answer is yes. There are many effective gold sinks to keep it from continually circulating in the game (crafting, upgrading, and repairing). This will keep gold a precious commodity for a long time.
I think an effective strategy for people will be to start with Gold Find. It is the sure way to work your way to better gear whether rolling items through crafting or buying through the AH. Once you have the gear you want, it may make more sense to switch to MF to find those big ticket items.
While gold is going to be a much more vaulable thing this Diablo 3 compared to the other games. I still think Magic find personally is a better use of time. Sure you don't get as much gold, but won't the items that drop from magic finding prove to sell for a lot of gold. Either by using the Gold AH, Vendoring them, or using them for crafting purposes that will later turn into higher returns of gold upon trade/selling.
While gold is a more useful thing, I still think MF is going to dominate in the long run. Like the above past said, gold is always dropping and is always around. While Gold finding may find you a lot more gold, you lose out on better Magic gear. Using MF gear you get better Magic gear, and still get gold, granted less gold, but you still get gold. You could argue magic gear will still drop but it won't be nearly as good as with Magic find gear which with one good magic find drop you could turn around and sell it for say hundreds of thousands of gold or more.
I think gold find will be much better early on at least, the first thing you want to get done is level the blacksmith as it seems the stuff you can make is always better than what you can find from mobs, at least that's how it seems from what we've seen in the beta. Personally I will be going with more gold find for sure. If you watched the "You will die" video they said they were spending a lot of gold on repairs, so that's also something you need to think about.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

Yeah I can see gold find being useful in your first few levels, maybe even first 20 or so. I just feel that once you get a littler further in the game and you can find or get your hands on a lot more magic find gear that the magic gear will be more useful for crafting and not to mention selling for gold.
In Diablo II the focus was on, teleporting your way to the nearest boss and blowing it up in 3 seconds flat, loot + move on to the next boss.
Since they said that this time around, bosses will not be the most efficient way to farm gear, magic find and gold find will even themselves out in the long run. To me it seems the best method for finding gear and getting large amounts of gold is going to be in the form of the right combo of stats that result in the quickest clearing of large groups of enemies along with enough survivability that you wont drop if something gets the jump on you.
The result is that magic find and gold find will be largely diminshed in the long run, whereas core stats are whats going to be far more important for both normal play as well as farming. Not to mention, maybe im wrong on this since im not in the beta, but the focus seems to be on team oriented play this time around and synergy between teammates will be more important than being able to simply blow everything up solo as it was in diablo 2
Goldfind seems like it's going to be useful through end-game. Being able to buy items from shops, turning them into materials, and paying the blacksmith to create any item type you want. Short of sheer luck from drops, this looks like it's going to be the way to get the "perfect" item.
I don't plan on making gold finding gear a priority, but it might help to have magic find for better chances in finding gear for Inferno, or for the RMAH I don't see how people are going to survive in Inferno in MF gear, there will have to be a trade off somewhere in order to survive.
Gold gear would help if you are wanting to max out the BS quickly and buy gear, but still don't see putting any emphasis on gold finding.
