Well I've been a hardcore gamer all my life and since im 39 thats longer than many of you have been alive. I still remember playing the original diablo online, and had my copy of D2 the day of release, even though it took days to get online due to overload.
What I can say is I've seen alot come and go over the years, some with good ideas, many with not so good ideas. And while I can be as critical of Blizzard as anyone at times, I can say they are still around and growing for a reason. They release well polished games with good graphics, good depth/content, and solid replayability. For the most part their games are released without major bugs, and they tweak things as needed. I know that sometimes their content patches seem to come slowly, but at least they come and are usually very polished on release. If you wanna play games that look/feel/play like they should still be in beta testing, go buy Elemental: War of Magic.
I don't know how earthshattering D3 will be, it is afterall a sequel, and I usually save the big words for new games with entirely new ideas. What I will say is it will be a HUGE success. The reason for that is it's history. It has a massive fanbase, good support, and an addictive playstyle.
Some of you guys talk like you want some kind of massive change from the past to come to D3. Well trust me - you don't. I know from experience that I want a similar look, feel, and playstyle to the game I've loved for over a decade. What I wan't (and probably what most of us want without really knowing it) is merely Diablo brought up to modern tech standards with a bunch of new content to explore, improved graphics, some new character classes to master, and possibly a little streamlining here and there.
If your looking for a whole new way of playing then you shouldn't be looking at a sequel. It's a sequel for a reason - the orginal Diablo did the groundbreaking (and trust me it was Earthshattering at the time), and now they are expanding on that success. Lets just hope they continue to expand on that success so we have many years of happy monster bashing ahead of us.
If he really is 39 then the way he behaves for a 39 year old guy is pretty sad. And lol at him being 39 and still being a "hardcore" gamer and being so proud of it. When you are 39 you should have other priorities dude - job, wife, children, etc and playing games should be just a hobby and not something you are "hardcore" about. And, yeah, I don't think he's 39, because he behaves like a random 16 year old nerd.
You attack him because of his age, call him a virgin, and lecture him on what his priorities in life should be... Try not to get so pussy hurt over one guy's opinion. You've made yourself out to be a much bigger douche than he has, good job.
By the way, his post would fit better in this thread. I don't understand why he made a new topic for this.
I didn't take it as a lecture at all, I took it as an opinion of his. It's great that he feels that way, but it may not be my opinion or your opinion. The 'End of lecture...' wasn't meant to imply HEY I'M LECTURING YOU FOO I don't think but more as Sorry for the wall'o'text.
You are butthurt, Akuma, sorry mang. Your disrespect was way over his. :\ I'm not going to stop gaming until I die, it's a hobby and a way of life. If people stopped after a certain age there wouldn't be the developers and programmers and modelers for Diablo 3 and, of course, the rest of the gaming world. Saying he's a 40 year old virgin out of no where and telling him his priorities should be elsewhere is disrespectful Sorry if you disagree with his post, but there was nothing wrong with it. :\

Yeah I suppose the end of lecture comment was taken the wrong way.... Metzcrag was right - the lecture thing merely signified the end of a long post. I felt like I was writing a college term paper or something. I'm sorry if the wall of text crit you.
Yes I probably could have posted it as a reply to a couple of other threads on here and it would have been appropriate there as well, but I felt after reading some of the posts that alot of people were crying that D3 wasn't "breaking new ground and bringing us to some gaming nirvana" like they seem to think it should, and I wanted to make a post to maybe help bring peoples expectations a little closer to reality. I also didn't want to hijack someones thread.
Sorry if I sounded condescending. I'm just a hardcore gamer who's fired up about the next installment of my all time favorite game.
So please can we have the discussion I hoped for in that too many people (especially new gamers) seem to have some rather unrealistic expectations on what D3 is gonna be.
There's no condescending attitude in his first post. All he says is that he's seen much because he's 39 years, and is a hardcore gamer.
I have nothing against games not pushing the genre forward if its actually fun. Last judgement on D3 will be called when its out, but I gave my examples while whining on another topic with SC2: Its entirely my opinion, but its a complete waste of making a new game like SC2 just to make it shiny, make the gameplay actually worse (except its easier to control), otherwise its the same old game. Why would anyone want that?
If D3 is like D2 in its core, with more things (like runes: I have high expectations for them), new classes but the same old thing, sure, it can still be a heck of a lot of fun. But will it be?
I often say that games should push its genre forward, but that never meant changing the entire experience either. It just means making it feel like there is much more to it than before. Why games, SO many years later, are still often so short, small, empty? The potential is so high, but they promise but a few things, and very often fail to deliver.
Now, like I said, we have no idea how they will deliver whatever new features there is in D3. But I've seen oh so many games looking exactly as D3 looks, especially as a sequel, and in the end delivered so little. I guess I'm still trying to understand the mystery of WHY most of games I find worthy of my time are so old. Because maybe you're right, maybe a game doesn't need to try to be so different to be good, we all know what we loved in D2. But in the end I am so sure that it will not be as addictive, and there's a reason somewhere.
Note that I do dislike more recent games often because of their graphics. Say what you want, but right now, D2 looks better than D3. Like I prefer Doom 1's graphics to Gears of War's. That extremely strange focus on making games looks strangely unfun to look at in a strangely high tech way. I'm getting off topic there, though.
Anyway in short, despite my expectations of gaming and my game developer's instinct of wanting to push gaming forward, I'm still hopeful that D3 can turn out to be a very fun game.
If he really is 39 then the way he behaves for a 39 year old guy is pretty sad. And lol at him being 39 and still being a "hardcore" gamer and being so proud of it. You should really consider getting the fuck out of this forum. Do you think so highly of your pathetic self that you think, just because someone mentions his age (yeah he's 39, he's saying he's seen things, a age means experience, age means you've seen more, he never said that this made his opinion better than someone younger).
But really, I call you pathetic because of your certain need to judge him on his life from that and his "hardcore" gamer statement alone. You have no idea what he is and let met tell you something, you can be a hardcore gamer, love games, and still spend time for your family, have a job and childrens.
If someone isn't welcome on this forum, its a dick like you.
I also have to apologize for trying to sound like the 'wise old guy'. I don't pretend to be Yoda or anything, and I'm not very eloquent when posting, so I'll say my bad for not being a little more clear about the points I was trying to make.
Apology accepted, so lets all forget about the little misunderstanding and get back to talking about what were really here to talk about - D3!
Jake is very right in that even a sequel should make the most of the chance they have to 'push the envelope' in their genre. I just think that while pushing things they should stay true to the roots of what got them here.
I was reading a post somewhere and some guy was complaing that D3 was still going to use the 3rd person isometric view and a similar interface to D1 & D2. It made me want to scream that if you change the view and the interface then you might as well be changing the game. Too many people think it should have a WoW style interface or maybe a first person view. IMHO they couldn't be more wrong. It would totally change the playstyle and experience that makes Diablo unique. They are probably just young and most of their experience in gaming is with thrill-kill first person shooters and that is where their comfort zone is.
It's fine if you wanna stay in your comfort zone, but if so then go get the next Battlefield installment or HALO, but don't expect any true Diablo fan to think the interface needs a radical change.

Over the last few months I've been ghosting a few D3 forums. During that time I've came across what seems to be a lot of threads with people saying they expect some radical change for D3 from D2. Quite a few seem to think that the interface or the point of view needs changing. I just wanted to make a thread to discuss why people seem to want an entirely new experience in D3.
My point is if you want a new interface/point of view then you probably want a new game. True Diablo players dont want to play D3 as a first person shooter.

wtf this is the worst thread i've ever seen... The OP is not the best but the replies are aweful.... Wtf why people 'round this section are such fucking annoying trolls ?
Every post is filled up with unneeded hostility. If you don't agree and have nothing to ADD to the topic, don't post. I think moderation should be much, much more severe.
About the topic, i may be one of those people who thinks the sequel needs some major changes. I think that simple for the fact that, nowdays, D2 gameplay is outdated, obsolete.

Oh, I see. It would have helped a lot if you said that in your OP. I didn't mean no disrespect or anything when I said I didn't get what this was all about. Thanks for the clarification, I guess.
I would agree with what you're saying. I'd say that modern-day gamers have been spoiled with several titles that are so terrible, yet garner such a fanbase, and so many dollars, it's ridiculous and scary at the same time.
I also have to apologize for trying to sound like the 'wise old guy'. I don't pretend to be Yoda or anything, and I'm not very eloquent when posting, so I'll say my bad for not being a little more clear about the points I was trying to make.
