So I was browsing tom's hardware website and came up with a nice resume of the comicon event in germany... Idk if it contains new information though. Anyway here it is :
That does kind of feel like an insult. Although, I can understand why the main story would get shorter. They wanna make us feel like we're getting closer and doing more in less time of course its a cheap way to get the game out faster and technically cuts down the main storyline but I'm sure this game will have enough side quests to make up for it, I hope.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I'm actually... kinda glad they cut the later acts shorter. Yes, it does feel like a cop out, but, then again, they're right. Have you ever played a game where the story feels never ending? It's terrible. That's what I felt when I played Dungeon Siege 2, the story just didn't feel like it would end, especially in the beginning where the story just crawled.
I think they're doing us a favor in the long run. And just because the acts are shorter doesn't mean that the story will be any less fulfilling. There's a reason why the climax of a story is always the most exciting part, and it kinda makes me feel better that the climax will feel like a culmination of all our efforts rather than just another story to wallow through. You'll actually feel like you're getting towards the end of the story and that's what really excites me.
So, all in all, try not to think of this as Blizzard not giving us what we deserve. Try to think of it as them trying to give us a fulfilling experience by not diluting the story with fuzz (remember Christi's hammer?).
PS: Yes, I used the word "climax". Snicker all you want, but I'm just using what I learned in my Honors English class.

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
"Even the way the Acts increase in length and then scale down. We intentionally did that again because we thought, some of that was done to ship Diablo 2, but we thought it had a good feel to it to reduce the length of later acts so that you feel like you're accelerating towards the finale."
I can't believe this shit. I mean, I remember how good it felt when I reached Act IV only to being completely underwhelmed by its length. They're cutting length on what will probably be the most interesting areas of the game... again. A game of this length isn't that hard to develop and they have had a lot of time to work on it. Now they pull this? How uncreative is their team? Diablo 2 is not by any means a long game. To anyone who thinks otherwise, please go play Diablo 2 again, excluding the expansion. It makes a big difference when there's no Act V. /rant
Guys, all they are saying is that they are following the storyline design of D2. They arent cutting anything short. Imo, its a good design. They build up a hype, and in the end, you feel like youre closing in on it, but Im sure we are not gonna be left feeling like the end came too soon. Its just that you get to the last act and you feel like, oh yeah, Diablo, here I come!
Diablo 2 wasn't complete. The main reason Act IV is so short is because they wanted to release the game sooner, which they admit to in the interview. Maybe they genuinely believe this is the best thing for the game, but I don't agree. The best way to go about it is good story telling, not shortening the game length. Some games can definitely drag on too long but, in my opinion, Diablo 2 is not one of those games.
And btw they said that acts will be 2 times longer than D2, if I remember correctly.
I've never read that. They have always said its length is comparable to Diablo 2.
Guys, Before you start getting angry - I think they were planning on this the whole time... I think they're trying to say they're in the polishing area now, but didn't come out right. Blizzard always has their plans, and don't forget their motto, "When it's done.". We wont have a half assed game, I think they wanted this to give the idea to players that they're still playing Diablo, since they changed quite a bit. And remember what they did with D2, made short ass act 4, but the expansion had the largest act of all (as long as you didn't rush to baal...). I think we should be more happy about this rather than angry.
Thank you Psyxix for attempting to post this, and Air for actually posting it XD.

Will be changed at some point, I'm too lazy right now.
they did say its going to be about as it is in Diablo II so it will be like this:
Act 1: decent size
Act 2: slightly bigger than 1
Act 3: really big
Act 4: shorter than all with more dramatic events/encounters.
and to those complaining about how they "cut" or "reduce" the game length there's a pretty easy point to make to prove "you're all wrong".
they arent cutting or reducing anything. they're in the process of creating it right now and they plan to make it like Diablo II. Not much bigger or shorter. but it seems the game itself will be even more interesting from what i read in another interview. which is kinda cool actually. (the interview's been sent to the news staff, they'll probably make an article and publish it soon enough).
Damn serious? I honestly never knew there are commas in links. I copied it all and changed the comma to a full stop, thinking that was the problem hehe
Blizzard may tell us "It'll be done when it's done.."
But that doesnt mean they dont have a deadline.
All companies have deadlines for almost every product, and I think Blizzard is about to reach theirs with D3.
So naturally, they are trying to speed things up.
Dont forget, that any content left out, will be put in when the expansions come out.

Here is the one big thing that you have to keep in mind when you speculate about D3 release dates - D3 doesn't stand alone. Blizzard as a whole is trying to decide what comes out first. They have SC2 out of the way and WoW's expac to bring into the mix. That is what this has been for more than a year - what order do they come out and when. Blizzard has the games right now to super-saturate the market for gaming with their titles, but to also make it a little difficult and diverse for their loyal fans. Some will leave WoW for SC2 - but SC2 doesn't have the time commitments that WoW or D3 will have.
I bet all my uniques that the game is done and ready for what limited beta it needs, but they have more time because WoW's expac is going to come out first and then they also need a good time to release it via the market share of holidays and other games that come out soon as well. Torchlight 2 is coming soon and D3 would have to come out before to try and capture more of the dungeon crawler crowd. But the holidays are coming and then theres.....
Get my point. Its not status of game being completed, its when is the appropriate time for it to arrive.
while i agree on "the general plan" of releases for the Blizzard games, i dont think they worry about the releases from other companies. Torchlight was fun for some time, but didnt even manage to keep the majority of the players for too long. We all came back to Diablo II. and Diablo II is old and not that good a game for 2010.
Diablo III will tear all the competition apart (at least in Hack & Slash RPGs). We know it and Blizzard knows it too. The new battle.net is THE way to unify the franchises and keep people in all their games since we all made friends in all games so they wont have to worry about inside competition (except for the releases, that i agree with that point).
the game is deep in the development and there's a clear plan on what to do and how to do it.
looking far more optimistic for 2011. could even be summer 2011 if they continue like this.
