Lets presume for a moment that a large following of WoW fans decide to pick up Diablo 3, on top of the Diablo 2 crowd that already exists.
That is most likely to happen. My point is, if the game (most likely will be) a huge success, then who can see a plethora of ARPG games spewing out into the gaming world after Diablo 3's success?
I mean, right now, there's tons of MMO's that have come out trying to topple WoW, and well, we all know that's a lost cause, but When Diablo 3 comes out, I just wonder what games will be created by the entertainment companies, I also wonder what traits they'll take from Diablo 3 and put into their game?
I'm not saying there aren't a lot of ARPG's on the market now, but, I'm saying once D3 comes out, there will most likely be double the number of ARPG titles coming out each year.
Diablo 3 will revolutionize the ARPG genre. But how many more ARPG games will be developed once D3 is released into the world?
I can't imagine entertainment companies letting Diablo 3 have all the fun, I'm sure some will come out of the woodwork to try and capture the ARPG audience.
It is hard to say how many will come out. Many games have tried to dethrone D2 and they all failed. Some made money and were successful but not to the extent that D2 was.
Companies will likely want to release the next Diablo killer before D3 is at the stores since that is the best time to sell. Players will be waiting for D3 and they may want to take a chance on a clone for the time being. It would want to be at least a few months if not more before D3 is scheduled to be released. If it is under a couple of months most people will wait for D3.
Having a clone arrive shortly after D3 will be a big mistake unless D3 is a huge flop. You likely want to wait at least 6 months after D3 is released and hope that enough players are tired of D3 and want to try a different game.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
D3 is not going to revolutionize anything. Heck, its pretty obvious that when it comes down to it, the game doesn't try to be innovative or add anything truly special to the genre.
The first diablos did revolutionize the genre. If anything, D3 is going to kill hopes of further standard hack & slash of this type.
Why so many try to create MMOs like WoW? Because they look so successfull and they bring in a load of cash. Thats it.
But games like D2 don't do very well. D3 will sell because its Blizzard, because every knows them. But I see absolutely nothing that will push others to make games like these.
If anything, the best time for random hack & slash was before D3, that long time without anything new. And look at what we got. The genre is relatively unsuccessful. Why would you want to make a game there?
Unless, of course, unlike Blizzard, you believe you can actually innovate and make the genre evolve. I'm not blaming Blizzard here, I'm sure D3 can be a great game. But its not really pushing anything forward.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
Lmao^... yeah really that is kinda of new to the genre. and hack n slash will always be about killing more and storylines, it is not about anything else really. Blizz succeds cause they revolutionize their games everytime. that link btw was very good info thanks for that.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!

I disagree, not only killing and storyline, the progression is all !!
There is already big talk about a Diablo 3 clone coming out sometime after the release of Diablo 3....it has been said it's going to be called the "Diablo 3 Expansion." It's going to have even more characters to play than Diablo 3 and more content. A lot of people will most likely buy it after Diablo 3 and will be playing it more than D3...I can't wait!
thank you... it is definitely revolutionizing, most developers use the genre hack and slash as an excuse to make a terrible game, not blizzard.
Nothing close to skill runes have ever been done before. the amount of work that is going to take will be insane.
the dungeons are more random than before. also there adding in random events.
This game is definitely gunna revolutionize hack and slash, but i dont think that will make more developers want to make games. i think that will scare them off.
I'm sure something will pop up, right now we got Mythos and the Torch Light MMO in development coming out this year, both diablo clones. Both will probably suck
The effect is the oposite. The MMO worket was very very competitive before WoW. Now WoW turns all other large scales mmo inviable to be done and large mmo only come out in 4 and 4 years...
But here is a good question. Diablo and the other hns games are substitute goods or complementary goods ? (sorry dunno the right terms for english)
Substitute because buying D3 may lead you to not spend more money on games, specially of the same gender.
But playing D3 some people will start to like then genre and buy games. "Oh it's just like Diablo3 but with machine guns!".

"In time the hissing of her sanity
Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
The incoherent talk of ordinary days
Why would we really need to live?
Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give" - Opeth

I don't think it's so revolutionizing !!
yes it's adding feature/gameplay but nothing is really drastically changed !
It's no revolutionizing at all, the game is still about who can kill more and faster.
