Hi guys, I had a few ideas to throw around regarding the trading system and was wondering what everyone thought about it?
1) Allow trades in the battlenet chat room: You can discuss trading and when an agreement is reached you can simply open a trade window with a player and put items up for trade without having to start a game. Once both players have accepted, the items are exchanged as normal.
2) Allow you to transfer items from one character to another in the battlenet chat room: It would be great if you could simply open up a window within battlenet itself and transfer items from one character to another without having to join a game, drop items in a secret location and come back in with your other character or mule hoping that your connection doesn’t get disconnected, the game closes or someone hasn’t stolen your items.
3) Have some sort of live, global auction house system: Have an NPC or a kind of auction station allowing players to advertise items for sale and select what item(s) they would like in return. Your sale item can be purchased from someone even if they are in a different game providing they have the item(s) that you requested in return. Once you have posted an item for auction it should stay active for X period and it can sell even when you are offline, and when you login the next time battlenet posts you a message "You have successfully sold 1 extra shiny sword(s) for 3 stone of Jordan ring(s)" and the new items appear in the inventory of the character who sold them.
Doh! Thought I had some unique ideas there. I think the battlenet chat-room trading has to be implimented but agree there may be some loopholes in the 3rd auction house idea.
I was listening to the blizzard podcast the other day and I came up with an idea that I think is feesible and would be interesting and fun...
on each account one could create a "Trade Character", like a peddler class... would perhaps look something along the lines of a middle adged man with a pack mule and a wagon.
Instead of there being a stash in each game, one would see this person and/or wagon. The stash size would be very large and accessable from any characters on the same account.
Now an intersting idea is that, one could log on as your trade character and use it to trade through channels and in ingame trading posts. A place where fellow merchants can meet and sell their wares. Think Caldeum, the merchant trade capital of Sanctuary.
In these games traders could set up shops and display certain wares for different prices. Other trader characters and hero charcters may browse these shops and look for things to buy. This means you could leave your game on while you go to work/school/hockey game etc... and you could come back and find your items sold, time saved, everyone is happy. Each game could have a short discription depicting what types of items are held in the shop. There would also be a search bar inwhich one could type "shako" and a list of shops w/ game name and possibly price listed. One could easily join the game and make the purchase. No more grueling hours wasted spamming "LOOKING FOR xxx /W *x_SLAYER_x" in trade channels.
Now this also presents opportunities to implement inflation reduction. "Hiring" a merchant character to set up a store could cost X gold per unit time the store is open. Simply put you have to pay your merchant to sell your goods. The other option is the merchant takes a percentage of the gold recieved for an item. Also it would make sense to add a small charge to use the search tool to look for an item.
Let me know what your thoughts are on a system like this!

Have a checkbox in the create game menu that can create either a regular game or a trade game. In a trade game you can view any ones stash and inventory by clicking on them. In this menu have a item marker that you can use to mark the items as wanted by: your name the stash owner can see these markers and then view your stash. He will in turn select which of your items he wants in trade with markers. Then the players converse and come to a descision. You can trade stash to stash so that there is no more "wait a sec lemme make room..." instances.
I like the idea of creating a peddler character with a bigger stash than your regular playing character. But the whole buy a merchant and pay him just doesnt look like it could work.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHER ******
That idea sucks Killing-hazard, because once the game opens then a bunch of no life game hoppers join really fast and start blazing "ILL SELL 50 SOJS FOR COH", "OVERPAY FOR THAT COH", "SO MANY RUNES FOR THAT COH,". If you decline then you hear "STUPID NOOB", "GO AWAY AND GET SOME BRAINS ARTARD", "YOU SUCK AT LIFE AND AT A GAME", "IDIOT".

I like the peddler character idea too. I think it could be a more advanced idea from the stasht. Instead of just your stash he would be access to items from all of your characters. One huge stash for all characters on each account no more mules necessary.

A Peddler class would be cool, it sounds a lot like the 'trader' class from Ragnarok Online. Maybe Blizzard could put in an ability to learn that makes your stash a lot larger, or maybe even something like a larger stash that a player could buy in the game. Personally, I don't want to see a bank like in World of Warcraft, but if it comes down to it that's fine.
i second krow. I don't want time wasted on a character like that that could be spent making something tottally bloodthirsty. though I don't fully understand the concept so my post could be pointless.
I meant that I didn't want a Peddler class, because that would reserve one of the three remaining spots in the class lineup. So instead of the Peddler, Blizzard could put in a functioning class with an awesome background story.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
but the thing is, I used the term class loosely. "class" was just a way to name it. Every account would come equipped with one of these guys, the same as every character has a stash. Each account just comes equipped with this character. it isn't playable in the field other than trade games (Caldeum) where it can set up shops.

There is no reason for it to take up a class.

Imagine that an auction stays with your character during battle or out it doesn't matter.
The idea is that if you find a an item you can post it in the auction house right there no need to go to a specific act or trade store you just drop into a window when you want to. This will be perfect for diablos fast paced game play. When someone wins your auction you simply receive and item via your stash or hell a mail icon that holds your item until you click on it.
Sure you can make this feature unavailable until X act in normal mode but once you have it your good to go or enable it right away!

Except for the last one, but aunction house is a no no :O. Might work though, but aunction houses are too irregular in hacknslash games.

That's technically still a 6th class which doesn't exist.
