i know we have talked about this before, but IMO the VERY LEAST blizzard can do for the fans of the first two diablo's is to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let SOME of the elements remain diablo style and NOT FRIKKIN WOW!!!!! it is questionable if we will get the graphic change AT ALL, which in my opinion just isn't correct because we are asking for diablo 3 to look like diablo, and others are not...in a sense theres a right side and a wrong side IMO...
but the very least they can do is to AT LEAST limit respecing, as it makes for a game that is copy cat in style and no fun...my (litterally) thousands of hours of playing diablo 2 would have reduced GREATLY if respecing was part of it....we need multiple build options of each char and respecing deffinately does NOT help this.
Give me some quotes or information that suggests that Blizzard was thinking about respecing for Diablo 3
link in these forums somewhere, to a video where the guy said "not having some sort of ability to respec is a bad idea" Also, respec doesn't make it wowlawl that's very common in games now and for a reason.
snow: you speak as if just because they hinted they wanted some sort of respec, that its instantly "click and remove all points and it doesn't cost much like wow" That's jumping the gun a bit.

as for respecing i like it, but it needs to be hella expensive...like only the top flight accounts can afford it. i like that someone can change builds for pvp if need be, but ive played other private server mmos with it and after a while someone finds a super-build and there will be mass reproduction of that build. but seeing as this is blizzard, known for balance, the sun seems to be rising

You need to realize that theres a difference between partially respecing and a full character respec
Then you need to realize that IF Blizzard does implement repecing in some degree or manner that it will NOT be unlimited/infinite
i know its common, but Diablo started these franchises for the most part and wow is one of the big games to implement and start respecing...i HATE respecing, but i will personally be OKAY with a limited amount. Does no one else see how respecing ruins the unique feeling of having a build of a certain character?
i dont have the link, i thought everyone knew by now that in one video i believe it was rob pardo who said they are considering implementing respecing.
isnt WoW's respecing unlimited? if so than i would not put it past them to do the same to poor old diablo 3....victim of WoW's terror lol...sorry i must rant as i am very mad right now : P.

but think of the possibilities for pvp, the counter tactics involved...im a sucker for technical pvp duels...and being able to counter a certain build on the fly seems so desirable...thats why i say it should be unlimited, but for a very HIGH cost, so only high lvl, well learned players which partake in some extreme pvp can afford it, otherwise its not going to be used much, is it? <- honest question...
*EDIT* wait blizzard most likely will make it a once per char quest reward, like the socket quest...that makes sense right?

I don't understand how people associate respecs strictly with WoW. It's a common game dynamic.
I'm done going into specifics. At this point I'm just gonna say that the game designer mentioned by Silverwyrm is right; no respcs is a bad idea from a game design perspective. Please don't say that it's not becuase D1 and 2 didn't have them, becuase the lack of them even in those games is a bad dynamic by todays standards.

There are no cheap tactics, only good ones.
Don't be afraid to take a chance, your skill will help the dice roll in your favor.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
Give me some quotes or information that suggests that Blizzard was thinking about respecing for Diablo 3
It was in the game design panel. "I think respecing is awesome" is a direct quote.
You guys do realize that respecing isn't just from wow, right? It's a continuation of some Pen&Paper RPG, as well as some other PC games, long from before WoW came out.
I think there is this unrealistic expectation that Diablo 3 should be more of another expansion to diablo II than a completely new game. I mean, Diablo 1 and 2 are both incredible games. But, they have COMPLETELY different RPG mechanics.
From what I've heard/seen/read : Most of the RPG mechanics are going to be the same / similar. You still have character Classes, you still have skill trees. They are just tweaking it. Most of the changes in gameplay look as though they are going to be on the action side of things, which I think is WONDERFUL.
I agree with respecing only if it is to correct mistakes, they can make it a quest reward(so you get 1 respec at each difficulty), that should be more than enough.
If people dont want to burn they're respec potion(just made that up) them they can trade it/sell it/or it can be used as a transmutation ingredient.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
I agree with "having nor form of respec is a bad idea" but some form doesn't mean "you can strip all your point off unlimited times" I wouldn't mind it unlimited but hard or limited in other ways such as...
A) vendor can remove all points form one skill (or reduce to to minimum req for another skill) but costs a very large sum of money and has a long cooldown and/or
a very rare item drop with said effect above (removing points form a single skill)
thats just two examples of ways to keep it in check, so it'd be too much a pain to change specs entirely, yet easy to swap a couple points around if you messed up, want to try a new skill/whatever. If you want to have to entirely different spec barbs, roll a second. If you want to siwtch a couple skills: you can't do it right away but give it a little time and you'll manage

A million a games could have the same dynamic but everything will be associated with WoW because people love to bash it.
I dislike WoW but I know good ideas when I see them. If they can fit respeccing in somehow in a sensible way then i dont see a problem.
i have almost NO interest in PVP as its just not that fun IMO...it should be implemented...how about respecing is only implemented in a way for pvp? there ya go...dont make ti SOOOO darn easy for everyone to run around with whatever build they want. I dont care HOW expensive it is...money and items are ALWAYS easily obtained online with trading.
respecing is lame. If you enjoy the game so much and love customization, you will want to make different builds of characters....the question everyone asks when you are online is..."oh what type of *insert class* are you making?"...now the answer could be this (with respecs)..."i dont frikkin know! doesnt matter because i can be a complete noob and still fix my character later, so skill is furthermore no factor in the game...yay!"
lol i hate it and wish they would just do away with it...but i guess i agree that limited respecing once from a quest could be ok.

you are obviously basing this off of d2, do u know how common gold and items will be in d3? i think not.
and wow since i can get a pvp ready char in just 5 mins right? and no i want one of every class, builds are what i mean in warcry barb as opposed to sword barb, or hammerdin instead of foh, and when who knows how many char slots will be available i dont wan to waste them with 4 barbs and whatever else...when u can respec u can switch to counter an opponent, or to make the game more fun by trying something new. a pvp arena with a temporary respec-er is possible but i highly doubt it, im sticking with my quest reward idea though, it sounds most reasonable.
and most experienced players have an idea of what to be before they make a char. and it takes items, not just skills and stats...
btw only poor noobs dont pvp. especially in diablo...IMo
